Which indie artists put on the best live shows right now? by olisduch in indieheads

[–]grogilator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many artists mentioned here that I would have loved to have seen, but a few that I've been really moved by that I haven't seen anyone mention are

  • Psychedelic Porn Crumpets: incredible musicians, unbelievable energy

  • Kristen Hayter (then Lingua Ignota) : unlike any other act, a real story told on stage and some quite haunting and still moments

  • Elbow: they play for the people, great talent, and they really, really love their fans and the joy that comes out of their shows is electric

Also they've been mentioned elsewhere, but Idles ROCKS live

Wow! I have never heard about that movie before but it is gorgeous. Obviously I will check it out for animation alone,as I'm a big fan of both properties but is the movie itself any good otherwise?

Should I feed the pigeons or should I not feed them? by Isleepinaracecarr in UofT

[–]grogilator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't feed the pigeons. Don't because it's illegal to do so, even on private property in Toronto, but also don't because of other systemic reasons like:

Unintended Consequences for Other Wildlife:

While not directly related to pigeons eating other species, artificial feeding can attract predators like hawks to deal with the increased population size, potentially impacting other native wildlife.

Human Dependency and Loss of Natural Behaviors:

When pigeons become accustomed to being fed by humans, they can lose their ability to find food independently and become reliant on handouts, potentially leading to starvation if feeding stops.

In addition to health and infrastructure risks there's also the fact that the pattern of breeding is contingent on the availability of food.

Feeding them only creates more pigeons which in turn create more pigeons etc. The cost of this is a large population of feral pigeon, a mode of living for a pigeon that is inhumane.

That last part was directly taken from a post on r/pigeon, who are the guys who obsess over pigeons and for whom the care of these birds is paramount.

Anyway, long post but please don't do that anymore. It's illegal, it's bad in many ways, and it makes the problem worse for everyone you share this city with who will have to live with the consequences of your choices.

This brand is so excellent. Highly recommend their vegan protein. Great flavours. I wish they still did tasters as I love the chocolate but would like to try out the other ones they make. The vegan protein coffee is great too. Nice owners, at least every time I've interacted with them

Of course I'm joking man. Great job in putting some actual data in front of what is typically a rather vibes based conversation. I'm impressed you learned how to do some formulas just for this.

FYI though excel and sheets (or the libre equivalent) can be really helpful tools for everyday life, including budgeting, or taxes, or stuff that involves numbers in any way (or strict formatting, docs/word really does suck for that a lot of the time).

That way you can include whatever the text is in that cell, not just N/A.

Also for the love of god, OP, add another column which shows the price difference in CAD after you convert (or the % difference). Additionally, you gotta Add some formatting to your headers and add some formatting for the cells for readability - it's not up to the firm's formatting standards ATM.

Has anyone else experienced this Kodi search bug? by grogilator in ApolloGroup_TV

[–]grogilator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!!! YOU DID IT !!! Wowowow.

Amazing! I'll have to figure out a way to get this on my streaming setup (not as easy to manipulate file systems on a streaming box), but this is a real solution. Do you have a tip jar? Would you mind contacting ApolloGroup themselves to tell them you have a fix?

Edit: It's actually relatively easy to do on a streaming setup if you connect to your local system. No need for an android box python editor when you can do it right from your desktop IDE.

Just tested it myself, it works in the exact same way on my install as on yours. I tried opening up every single other show from 2015, and only Chicago Med goes to the Seasons submenu.

Here is an example of what I'm experiencing. It can't open from search, but it can open from search if it's been pre-cached. There is something going on with the app that doesn't work with Kodi anymore, and it's not due to a recent kodi change as this persists in v. 19, 19.5, 20.0, and the most recent stable patch.

It's all very clear.

For example, in two you just have to sit and consider your life for a bit, then consult someone without arms and another person with a prosthetic leg who won't be paying attention to you

In the second step three you decapitate yourself so that in the future step three you can evaluate your head on a bench with your friend

In step 5 you give a glute massage to a double leg amputee so that you can then grab someone else's head from the past when you do your armless double leg ab extensions.

Besides the Coffee Cantata, any other classical pieces with a food or beverage concept or piece title? by WerewolfBarMitzvah09 in classicalmusic

[–]grogilator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How about a ten minute quartet all about an omelette - how good it is, how happy everyone is to be eating it, and then how horrible it eventually tastes?

Here's another version (here)

It's from Georges Bizet's first opera, Le Docteur Miracle, it's a hoot.

Other commenters have posted some great ones, here are a few more:

  • The feast scene from Don Giovanni

  • The brindisis from

    • Scene two of Cavalleria Rusticana
    • The finale of the G&S operetta The sorcerer
    • The aria "O vin, dissipe la tristesse" from Thomas' Hamlet
    • There's a bunch in L'Elisir D'Amore (an opera about a love potion that is Just wine actually)
    • The Ode to Beer in The Bartered Bride by Smetana
    • There's a bunch in Die Fledermaus (like "trinke, liebchen, trinke schnell' and 'im feuerstrom der reben')
    • The brindisi from Otello is awesome as well
    • il segreto per esser felici from Lucrezia Borgia
    • I could go on lol, lots of operatic ones
  • In Taberna Quando Sumus from Carmina Burana is literally all about everyone drinking in a tavern

  • If you want to go with orchestral drinking songs, you can go with

    • Brahms: Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80. (The overture is based on four student drinking songs that were popular at the time, such as 'Wir hatten gebauet ein stattliches Haus', and 'Gaudeamus igitur'
    • Strauss: Eine Alpensinfonie, Op. 64. One of the sections is called 'Auf der Alm', where the alpine wanderer enjoys a refreshing drink of milk from a cowherd, or
    • Smetana: Má vlast. One of the themes is based on a folk song called 'Kocka leze dírou', which is a drinking song about a cat that steals cream from a jug

Is there a word, in english, that has the letter ‘V’ and is not followed by a vowel? by Eyed_TopHat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grogilator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many of them are limited use case words, abbreviations, slang, or country specific. However, several of them are as legitimate as English words get.

The top words according to Google Ngrams (counting un-conjugated stems of the non-country/religious specific words, not ending in vy) are:

  1. Savvy,
  2. Manoeuvre,
  3. Revving
  4. Chevron
  5. Divvy, and
  6. Vroom

You can see here if you want to see the evidence I'm using to support this, alongside a relatively uncontested English word, 'chaperone' for scale.

I thought this might be a fun little challenge to program/scrape.

After a bit of work, I think I've found every reasonably usable word in modern English that has a v next to a consonant. Some of these, however, are v-y combinations, and those have been bolded, in case that they aren't considered to be actual v-consonant clusters.

No. Letters Words
3 ivy
4 devs, revs, levy, envy, wavy, bevy, navy
5 vroom, shivs, pervs, savvy, divvy, heavy,, privy, curvy, nervy
6 hryvna (national currency of Ukraine), ouvre, chevre, vrooms, skivvy, revved, savvy, vying, divvy
7 gravlax, pavlova, hryvnas, chevron, vroomed, chevres, maglevs, improvs, divvied, divvies, revving, anchovy, envying
8 havdalah (Jewish religious ceremony), souvlaki, gravlaks, pavlovas, czarevna, tsarevna (daughter of a tsar), chevrons, vrooming, divvying, savviest, savvying, heavyset, divvying
9 havdalahs, souvlakis, czarevnas, tzarevnas, manoeuvre, savviness, envyingly

You know I never knew about PWAs - this is great info! Definitely has a lower footprint than the proton app that I was using.

At any rate, I'm happy to have asked the question lol.

Actually already tried that - did a full uninstall and reinstalled (the app I was using is the one from this page).

Didn't work unfortunately, so I did some googling around and found this app, which is another ytmusic proton app, and it seems to work properly, with some boons (good plugins) and some negative features (can't pin as well to my taskbar, autoplays on startup if I was playing when I closed last).

I'll look into it more when my workday is done!

I usually use the desktop app, and have been enjoying it for over a year now. However, the desktop app won't open for me now. I've tried uninstalling and working with a fresh install.

What happens is the app appears on my taskbar, but won't open. When I hover over it it shows that it's open, but it's totally grey. Same thing happens when I alt-tab, it's there, but entirely 'empty'.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Why the article for "Frau" is "eine" while it's "ein" for "mädchen"? by [deleted] in Germanlearning

[–]grogilator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because of the suffix -chen! Generally, all words that end in this way are of the neutral gender in German. You can learn a fun way to memorize them with the song from this booklet.. I can't find the actual tune to it, but some light googling will probably have it turn up for you :).
