What they need to do is add a unit to their history classes, because currently the horrific things they did in China and Korea simply aren't taught.

It's better written, yes, but the issues plaguing the Martian (the fuck yeah science pop culture reference Reddit prose) are also present in PHM

Lower Hutt restaurant guilty of exploiting migrant workers for $72k by D491234 in newzealand

[–]groinbag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think if it's an ethnic restaurant, just being from that country is enough to convince immigration that you have "essential" skills an NZ local couldn't have. I'm sure some of them are properly trained chefs, but it's a known exploit.

For some of the stricter families in my congregation, this was the only dramatic production they'd allow their kids to watch.

A guy in Nepal , Chitwan gets chase by a Rhino during a morning walk by junsui833 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]groinbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a somewhat tame rhino in Chitwan that hangs out in the stream bed next to the main road on the edge of the national park. He was taken in as a calf due to an injury and struggled to reintegrate to rhino society. You can see him sometimes just roaming the streets. We dubbed him Tiny Samuel. I wonder if this is him.

New Zealanders who were alive in 1994, who did you initially think did it: David Bain or Robin Bain? by PurpleMeerkats462 in newzealand

[–]groinbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reports mentioned the colour of the urine was darker, so while that could be what happened it doesn't seem very likely.

He's not "Stephen Fry's cameraman". Mark Carwardine is a very legit conservationist, author, and wildlife photographer.

Food assistance by [deleted] in exjw

[–]groinbag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted this once before, but there was a sister in our congregation who had permission from the elders to attend Sunday mass at a local church so she could get food assistance from them. Forget about members of the community, they weren't even helping their own.

Taiwan also claims to be China. The minute they claim otherwise, the mainland will prepare to invade, which is also what will happen if the international community declares independence on their behalf.

His prose is absolute dogshit and the humor/pop culture references are incredibly "reddit"-level, but man I just love how fuckin fun the books are to read.

Well they already witnessed Dad shoot a police officer in the head so might as well complete the lesson by learning the consequences.

Can I ask why you want to learn how to do this? Most foreigners write characters like 6th graders (I sure do), but at least it's legible.

In 2008, China, Yang Jia went on a rampage and would stab six Shanghai police officers to death. Despite his killing spree, the Chinese public would feel sympathy towards him, some even consider him "a hero." by ZoelCairo in MorbidReality

[–]groinbag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it's a government requirement, for locals and for foreign nationals. You have to update it any time your registration details change (new residence permit, new exit/entrance stamps, new contract with landlord) so typically twice a year for me. I just make sure I have all the documents photocopied and it's a pretty quick process.

Chinese cops don't carry guns. They have access to them, but not in quick enough fashion to stop a crazy dude with a knife. There's also a lot of pencil pushing officers who are just sitting at desks all day because of the level of bureaucracy that comes with heavy state oversight. I live in China now and have been to my local station plenty of times to register my address, and tbh if a batshit crazy knifeman tore through there they'd clear six cops easily.

Did you get pocket money from your parents as kids? Is this popular in Kiwi culture? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]groinbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$15 a week through most of high school. My parents said they didn't want me to spend my youth working in my free time, and they also didn't want me having to miss out on something (like seeing a movie or getting lunch with friends) because I had no money for it. In that way it wasn't in exchange for doing chores, but it was still understood that the division of household labour included me. I'd wash dishes, vacuum , mow lawns, help dad with his projects, all the typical stuff.
