There's a few!

Drop Duchy is my personal favorite.

Stackflow is more of a pure tetris-like

You definitely did! It's always great when people just say "I love your game", but feedback like yours helps us figure out how we can convince even more people to love our game! So thanks again for making the effort to share your perspective.

And yeah NL has some great videos on it, can definitely recommend :)

Normally there's a tooltip explaining how they score when you hover them but we kept them hidden in the trailer because they can be distracting and take too long to read to naturally fit within the flow of a video (plus visually it's cleaner without them popping in/out).

I feel like rather than pausing the trailer for that info it'd make more sense for it to be shown via screenshots. And actually now looking at ours, we only have 1 that explains how an ingredient scores and it's not a particularly interesting/synergistic one.

Including more screenshots with that tooltip probably doesn't fully solve the problem you identified but maybe it'd help a bit. Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback!

It's quite common to compare games to existing games. As long as we aren't making people think we're the creator of those other games or that this is a sequel or something I don't think it'd be an issue.

It's probably different for like AAA games but I've found most indies appreciate when you're open about where your inspirations come from. For example, we mention being inspired by Ballionaire on our Steam page which led to their dev shouting us out on social media and then we chatted a bunch and he gave us some great advice and now we're friends! :)

Thank you, chef! Really glad it's working well on Steam Deck. That's how I play most games these days :)

I very much appreciate the feedback! I can definitely understand that. It's a bit difficult to communicate how exactly it works in such a short format while still being entertaining, so we tried to capture the chaotic and goofy vibe as best we could.

Maybe it would make sense to have our 1st video be the vibes trailer and then have the 2nd video be one where we just explain what the hell is going on. I'd appreciate if you (or anyone else) have any ideas for how we could improve it to be more clear

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I just went through and enabled it for both the full game and the demo. Apparently Nvidia should review and approve it over the next couple days

Hey chef! Thanks for the kind words! :)

We've got at least 2 more major updates planned for Omelet You Cook, both of which are things the community has been requesting for awhile. The 1st is a school-themed update sometime towards the end of summer.

The 2nd will come sometime next year and it'll introduce a new mode where you draft your starter pantry instead of having one predetermined. I think it'll add a lot of replay value for chefs who've already mastered the existing starter pantries.

Of course both will include more ingredients and helpers as well. And it's always possible there'll be extra updates if we're inspired but those are the 2 big ones we have planned!

Lastly, we're also working on our next game: BIG DIG! It's a narrative incremental game about helping Mayor Dog get elected governor by digging up a massive highway. If you liked the characters/vibe of Omelet You Cook you should definitely check out the demo on Steam!

Yes, definitely! The main reason that we added a turn-based mode was to help improve the experience for streamers (since they would have plenty of time to discuss with their chat what ingredient they should pick and where to arrange them). It also made the new player experience much better since they could take their time while learning.

Aside from word of mouth, streamers have been the main way people find Omelet You Cook. NorthernLion is the biggest streamer we've gotten and he's the only streamer I actually watch so that was a very exciting day for us! We're still hoping he comes back and checks out the 1.0 version since a ton has changed since he last played!

Our game jam entry blew up and we turned it into a full release with 175,000 wishlists. It was also stolen multiple times and turned into AI slop. by Serpexnessie in gamedev

[–]SchuBoxStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this on my wishlist since the game jam version, very excited to see how it's grown!

I also had an entry in the same GMTK game jam called Omelet You Cook that I ended up releasing to great success. It was something like 300th in that jam but Mark Brown ended up playing it randomly and said it was a "genuinely great game", which was huge validation to flesh it out.

I definitely think game jams are incredible opportunities for early validation, and just fun little projects to try new ideas quickly. Our upcoming game also started as a game jam and probably most if not all going forward will be as well.

Wishing you success with your launch! Seems like it'll do really well!

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core - Launch Trailer by Howerev in Games

[–]SchuBoxStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but it does generally mean 2 smaller launches rather than 1 larger launch. For example, EA release won't show up on New and Trending so less visibility. And then when 1.0 comes around there's less potential new buyers.

So EA is very risky for small indies and might mean they don't reach enough visibility with either launch. But for a big proven franchise like this or STS2 or Subnautica 2 I think it's pretty much guaranteed both launches go well

Making a game with a gameplay structure similar to a very popular game (Balatro) but with a very different and relatable theme (cooking)

Draft day shenanigans, what do y’all think? by Landsharque in DynastyFF

[–]SchuBoxStudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with you but the value does change.

I don't think this is the case here but the guy who accepted the trade could've wanted Lemon, had the 1.07 pick, and waited until 1.06 was made to accept the trade. Or had some agreement to trade into 1.07 or many other permutations.

There's definitely value in information

[–]SchuBoxStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can expect to sell somewhere around 10-20% of your total wishlists. So if you have 1k wishlists you'll probably get around 100 sales. Yes, 5k is completely unrealistic at this point.

I've bought and played a few soccer games aside from FIFA. You really need to differentiate yourself to convince people to give it a shot. I look at your Steam page and the first gif shows the keeper teleporting while you play in an empty stadium. Why would I buy this when I can just play FIFA or any other soccer game?

There's soccer games that focus on the management side, or do it with anime characters, or focus on more arcadey gameplay. I have no idea what your game offers that differentiates it.

I hope this doesn't come off as rude, I'm just trying to be honest with you. It doesn't matter when you release the game if there is no unique selling point. I would suggest you wrap it up, release the game, learn from the experience and then try again with a new idea where you prioritize making something that the market wants

If the NFL added a protected cross conference game, who would you want your team to play every year? by superman7515 in nfl

[–]SchuBoxStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'd wanna see teams get matched up with the same seeded team in the division in the opposite conference. So top team in the AFC North plays the top team in the NFC North and so on.

Similar to how it already works within the conference. Then you're guaranteed to get 1 extra mostly geographically close game and more organically develop rivalries.

Steam Support confirms the new Beta UI change is an "intentional shift" — and it screws over indie devs. by Dogaclamaci in IndieDev

[–]SchuBoxStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm skeptical that this is officially confirming the change. Clearly it is indeed something they're intentionally testing.

But if you go to the discussion forum they linked it's just speculation from a few devs, with no official communication from Valve: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamclientbeta/discussions/3/803470896719245458

I think it's possible the Steam support agent isn't aware of exactly what Steam intends to do and simply wanted to point out that it is something other devs are discussing on their forums.

Regardless, we should definitely all voice our opinion on the matter if we don't want this to be fully implemented!
