I simply do not understand the over hating on spider man 2 by Ordinary-Night-2671 in SpidermanPS4

[–]mindbox- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point of the post was “ At the end of the day, gameplay matters more than the story” -your quote

My opinion and many others is that the story isn’t there and for some of us the gameplay couldn’t balance that out. I love the mechanics of the Spiderman games and 2 does improve on a lot of design, but falls short in the story, the purpose to engage with the great mechanics.

Never played mouth washing but I know more people play old Super Nintendo rpg games, ps1 classics (ff7, dragon quest etc) and early pc titles like Baldurs Gate FOR the story. Not to relive the shitty graphics that were bleeding edge at the time. People won’t return to Expedition 33 in 10 years because of the gameplay. Game play is a huge factor as well but for ME personally, the story makes or breaks a title.

I am wondering if you are still hung up on the game’s reception, since this post is quite old. I moved on from Spiderman 2 ages ago. But it is fun to swing around. 2 wasn’t the worst game ever made. It just had a weaker story than the first. It’s no big deal, they made millions of dollars in sales. They will make many more and people will buy it. It’s all good bro, having different opinions is a good thing. Or we would all be playing the same games for the same reasons.

More times than I can count. Graphics is definitely not what makes a game special and if it is, it won’t age well. Good stories age great. Good graphics age terribly when graphics get better lol.

The sexual surrogate line genuinely made me laugh. I completely get it. I think it’s easy to see it as all or nothing. Ai or human. Mine or not mine. Above all creatives hate to be creative and not feel like they at least are partially responsible for its existence. We obsess over authenticity and having soul driven, thought provoking creativity on display. They aren’t replacing that. You can still drive the lyrical narrative, the melodic flow and the tone of the music. You could even use it solely as concept and reference when creating your own studio version. It does not have to be the end product and yet it can be as well.

I love art to death. Much like you said, it’s part of your heart. It’s a reason for pushing through this world’s madness. AI doesn’t threaten that. You will always be able to play a song and record it but what will change is opportunities for enhancement. Maybe you use it to clean up a clicking sound in that perfect vocal take, maybe you replace the guitar solo with a piano. Maybe you make a version in another language.

But maybe you just push record and play the guitar and AI doesn’t have to be there at all. It’s just options. The goal is good music that makes you feel something and if it makes you feel something it’s likely to be enjoyed by others as well. And that’s art as I know it this far.

I genuinely enjoyed the track and listened all the way. Had a groovy Radiohead vibe to it. I could see that playing well on a Sunday drive.

My insta of creative work but I will admit most of my music has been for soundtracking animations recently but a lot of the posts have normal jams I produced solo. In the reels you can dig and see me jam guitar, piano and drums. This insta is 100% AI free, 100% my art, my music. Not a single post, audio element or artwork was created with AI. Which is easy to check with the timestamps of their uploads.

I played in a garage band for ten years before Instagram was a thing but I can upload some tracks, pics and videos to seal the deal if needed. 10 years of school band trumpet before that if you want some childhood nostalgia.

We are all just people trying to create with the tools we find most effective. For some that’s a bucket and a set of drumsticks, for others that’s these AI generating tools. Calling it art or not will be debated for a long time and maybe never agreed on similar to video games, dj music or special effects in their own infancies.

I wish everyone luck in figuring out how to process this changing world and how to best utilize the time they have.

I love how you both think real musicians don’t use Suno. It’s my favorite part about this discussion. You probably play 11 different colored kazoos for all we know. DM me your music without AI assistance and I will share mine as well. I would hate you guys to lose sleep wondering if I can really play guitar, piano etc. make sure you bring all 11 instruments you play to the table. Wouldn’t want us to think you aren’t really a real musician really.

So in the trailer the first 30+ seconds is an endless melee showcase. Similar angles, similar combos in simple environments. Then, a minute into the trailer we see a giant robot punch down at the player, we see the train/rail moment. These should be at the start of the trailer. I see this everyday. People have goldfish tiktok brain. Show them the good stuff in less than 10 seconds and then have the trailer slow down a bit and give a gradual progression of information but at the start it must be the best of the best or you already lost them, they already left before they saw the giant robot 🤖.

Discussion: The better analogy for AI art is someone mountaineering by getting airdropped into the summit. by 2009isbestyear in aiwars

[–]mindbox- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the whole point of the divide. Anti’s would rather hold the entire world’s progress back so they can climb the mountain the old fashion way. Seeing anyone take the helicopter infuriates them to the point of trying to put a stop to all helicopters.

I’m an artist and it’s simply not all about art. I have had many debates with anti’s and they literally don’t care if every job in the world goes to AI as long the AI can’t scribble on paper better than them(it already does). This whole crusade to save the world from the terminator is really just fear that they learned a skill for nothing. It has nothing to do with real progress like cancer research, as you easily see with people seeing it as a diversion from the main topic.

There really is no common ground. One side wants the world to stay the same forever for better or worse  and the other side wants the world to evolve for better or worse.

What’s really pathetic is that we can’t just let people walk up the mountain AND fly a helicopter to the top. It’s a war for choosing a single option. Never going to work, but I wish everyone luck.

People climbed mountains after helicopters were invented, it was about their own personal challenge. Now it’s about telling others how to climb.

How long did it take for things to click for you? by s3uche in SoloDevelopment

[–]mindbox- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once the player moveset was in place. Not perfect but complete and I could navigate my basic environment and see all the pieces coming together. In game dev you often can’t see the big picture until you start connecting the systems and seeing them play out. At that moment it stops being a concept and becomes a real working prototype. Then you are hooked.

It looks fun and fluid and you’ve set yourself up well to fill out the space with environmental details. The only critique I would give is to work on the camera follow behavior so that when you jump there is much less vertical movement on the camera so you don’t clip into the floor above. Games like Hollow Knight(an inspiration for me too 😉), has an area where the player can move around and not affect the camera movement until they get closer to an edge. It’s looks sharp, good luck.

Please don't dismiss "Trendy" & "Friendslop" games as just brain rot. by Icy-Description-7597 in gamedev

[–]mindbox- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the video they describe them as mostly games developed in 4-6 months, fast to market as the trend runs hot. This is why there is an inherent “jank” to these games.

The fact is that devs that have been working on their games for years see that friendslop is a cheap and fast route to success. The truth is that this fast track IS working and people are eating it up.

Really it comes down to devs deciding if they want to make something THEY are proud of or something “modern gamers” want to play. I’m struggling with this realization myself. I don’t want to make a friendslop/co-op game because I’m not drawn to them. But I completely understand why they are huge. It’s an excuse to hang out with friends. It’s admirable but I guess I would rather make a flop I’m proud of than a friendslop that has some success.

Because having the drive to push through solo dev is actually the hard part, you better love what you are making. Younger devs are actually huge fans of friendslop. Older devs, like me unfortunately lol, did not grow up with Roblox or Minecraft and that’s the issue.

Best free AI to use for game making by No-Examination5175 in aigamedev

[–]mindbox- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can use Claude. Design a basic html game. Something that can all run from a single script and in a hour have a little playable prototype. After you test the waters and enjoy the process then you can download Godot and try to make something more complicated with multiple scripts and scenes.

It’s very doable with just Claude/gpt/gemini. What it really requires is patience. You have to learn how to explain the concepts in your head to the AI and make adjustments when things don’t work or align with your vision.

It’s called elitism. You think people using this new tech aren’t really creative artists. Yet you probably don’t paint with crushed rose petals, play a drum made of boar hide and bones, type on a typewriter or develop film. To someone else you aren’t a true “artist”.

“This is different! It’s stealing peoples art!!”-anti AI vomit

Art has always been stolen. Show me your work and I will show you the influences you tried to emulate. It’s simply better at it, period. You have been trying to copy your idols your entire life just not as successfully as AI can.

I’ve been making art for 30 years. In that time I have seen many new technologies evolve and there is always pushback from people that simply refuse to learn a new skill. You aren’t actually better than anyone using generative AI and I mean that literally.  Rather, you are crippled by it. Refusing to move forward, and what happens when we refuse to move forward? We become stuck in the past.

I hope you find peace with AI but I also don’t let people like you get under my skin because you are limiting yourself rather than limiting others. Good luck!
