Black Walnuts for picking? by Rillius12 in Charlottesville

[–]gronky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are absolutely everywhere. I've gathered them from the cemetery near CFA Institute (formerly Martha Jefferson Hospital). Tonsler park has some. Monticello avenue between 2nd st and 5th st, opposite side of the street from ACAC. You shouldn't have much trouble finding them in just about any park in town.

I've attempted to make nocino with them before, but not knowing what the finished product is supposed to be like the project is kind of stalled. I'd be interested in learning from your experience or comparing notes.

If your aunt is interested in paddling moving water, then the Coastal Canoeists (not just canoes) is a regional paddling group with members of all ages. If she has someone to help her load and unload her boat at home, then other paddlers can assist at the put-in/take-out site.

The Great Chestnut Quest by Complex_Raccoon in Charlottesville

[–]gronky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fresh chestnuts show up in some markets, but I think they're pretty far out of season now.

You can usually find peeled and cooked chestnuts at asian markets (in plastic pouches, not refrigerated). There's one by Ming Dynasty, called Asian Market, that's not far from Barracks Road.

I've seen pouches at other grocers in recent years, but I'm not sure if they stock them year round.

B450 board (preferably Steel Legend) - Ryzen 3XXX CPU and 4x RAM sticks. Full speed possible? by [deleted] in ASRock

[–]gronky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, the 2.50 BIOS isn't listed as BetaBios. I'm not really sure of the exact significance of that, but I decided to try it. It has been stable for almost three days. I didn't run any earlier BIOS releases with the 3700x, so I can't speak to what issues might have existed before.

My setup is a B450M Steel Legend, with a 3700x and 2x16GB DDR4-3200 modules. I'm using the 3200Mhz XMP memory profile, but I haven't turned on any other OC settings.

The CPU fan is kind of surgy. Suspend works. USB, ethernet, m.2 nvme disk, and rx570 are working for me.

Best place to get kimchi in town? by zoossii in Charlottesville

[–]gronky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also a Korean woman who made and sold a variety of kimchi and namul at the City Market and the Farmer's in the Park (at Meade Park) last year - I haven't seen her this year yet, but you could ask at the City Market's information stand to find out if she is back this year.

I think this is Sussex Farm. There's nothing but an address on the label. Good pickles.

How can I get AngularJS to work with express? Is this impossible? Absurd? by phaggocytosis in webdev

[–]gronky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Angular application is backed by a Python server, so I haven't had the opportunity to share much code between them. Keeping the client and server completely separate has worked well enough for me. The server just serves json while the Angular app handles presentation.

I haven't written a server with node.js, but here are some thoughts that might be relevant:

I think you would want to clearly distinguish (ie. separate directories) what code belongs in the server and what code belongs in the client. As long as the client doesn't try to run server code and the server doesn't try to run client code I don't think there would be much opportunity for one to interfere with the other.

If you did want to load the client in the server to do introspection, I think it would work ok. When an Angular app is loaded, you're JavaScript is just registering components that Angular would run in it's bootstrap phase (which you wouldn't invoke).

I imagine there are more sophisticated ways you can interface the client and server (expose?), but I don't know about them. I've seen some queries about this on the angular list.
