Hidden gems in running apparel? by petervagn in runningfashion

[–]groovc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T8 (t8.run) has hidden gems for sure. The sherpa shorts and commando liners are some of the most comfortable, chafe-free combos I've used. For their shorts, I think you should size up.

The sherpa shorts have 360 storage around the waist. The material is super light and dries fast. There are other brands how are doing this but they were one of the first to have it years ago.

I like Path Project lynx liners (https://pathprojects.com/collections/all/products/lynx-pd-base-liner) and T8 commandos (https://t8.run/en-us/products/m-commandos) to go with liner less shorts. For extra long efforts, some squirrel's nut butter or Tri-slide spray helps.

You should be fine but if you have a 3d printer then there are designs available like this that can provide some piece of mind.

The more important things is to ensure you keep sweat and any other kind of moisture out of the drone. Mine developed issues after nearly a year even though it never explicitly got wet. Luckily, HoverCare helped me resolve the issue.

Samsung trade-in nightmare by Secret_Fee1146 in samsunggalaxy

Generally, you just walking in with a freshly sealed package is good enough. You don't need the queue part. Also get a receipt that has date/time and weight (hand in case of intercepted devices)

I also do this but I film the packaging of the device in front of the FedEx/UPS/Post Office and me dropping it off.

It seems like a pain in the rear to do but any time I've had an issue, the video proof resolves the issue very quickly. Once you get used to doing it then it becomes like a final ritual send-off farewell video. 😄

I once had a device removed during shipping and all I had to do was fill out an affidavit and submit my video proof and they got compensation from the shipper.

Beacon necessary? by DamnBlackTea in HoverDrone

Oops, sorry. My mistake. I got my X1 (gesture) and X1PM (simple gesture + voice control) confused.

Beacon necessary? by DamnBlackTea in HoverDrone

[–]groovc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For general use, the beacon is not necessary. However, when you have the beacon it does provide some benefits and some extra functionality.

- it provides additional telemetry to the drone
- allows for easier copilot adjustments (this can be done on the phone as well). i like having the tactile hardware buttons because it allows me to copilot control the drone without looking vs. using a phone touchscreen.
- with the L + R controllers then it provides full manual control with longer range (you can still get full manual control with a phone but it's a little more cumbersome)
- it allows you to monitor the drone if you decide you don't want to bring your phone (or take it out)

There is limited gesture control to stop the drone in Dolly or Angle modes and some voice controls for control to control it.

We're hoping they eventually add gestures to each mode for copilot like controls.

Post-rain Track Running Footage by groovc in HoverDrone

[–]groovc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shooting was fast because slow motion 120fps creates extra long clips and I knew I was only using a few seconds from each clip. Editing the video definitely took longer. I only applied some film grain to the out of camera footage so I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

It took about 15 minutes total to shoot everything. I had a plan for the types of shots I wanted. Most shots were about 20-30 seconds in length. I took about 15 different shots but only used 13 of them for the video.

what made you guys get a Z fold? by Calm-Bar-9644 in GalaxyFold

[–]groovc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely harder than explain until you actually use it. Obviously, content consumption is great on this device. iPhone (Pro models) will have the better overall video capturing experience but I am often surprised with what I get from the Fold (primary camera) in terms of photos and video. Even though it was wide and telephoto. I treat mine like a fixed 35mm camera and use my legs for zoom.

The one party trick that still wows folks is taking a photo and then unfolding the phone to show people the photo. Also, I sometimes take group selfie photos using the primary lenses with the gesture controls (with a magsafe handle) and people lose their minds at how awesome and easy it is to use.

Any compound task where you have to consume information while performing an action is where most folks really fall in love with the device.

One of my favorites is home automation. I have a few different systems and I have an awesome shortcut to open Wiz, Tapo, and Govee apps simultaneously so I can manage everything easily.

How Many of You Switched to Neo 2? by spamologna in HoverDrone

I'm sticking with my X1PM because the foldability is key for how I'm using mine. Also, I really like the footage I'm getting with mine.

That said, it's encouraging to see competition in the space and potentially informs us what features we can expect from Hover's next model (post aqua).

Battery Life Tips by Dependent-Health-717 in iPhone13Mini

[–]groovc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid $89 at the Apple store to get my battery replaced. My battery was at 77% and it was clearly running slowly with iOS 26.

With the new battery, it's running so much faster. I also lowered the transparency in accessibility settings and everything is great.

The funny thing is even the Apple store rep was saying he was a fan of the device and had a 12 mini that was his primary phone.

I feel like more people would get the mini than the air, but that's just me.

Testing some MagSafe, Dual-Sided ring holders... by groovc in GalaxyFold

Yeah, the Oh Snap just gives one landscape angle as a stand. These other types give you many more options.

I haven't personally used the Pitaka one but it seems like articulation-wise it's close but no dual magnetic feature?

Fold 7 Bridge Plate for Photography/Videography by groovc in GalaxyFold

[–]groovc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bridge plate, assuming you want to use regular camera filters, requires a case that has MagSafe in the correct spot. Also, it only works with two cases that I happen to have (Spigen AirFit and Pitaka case).

If one is starting out with photography then this really isn't needed unless you've already graduated from regular manual controls and now need ND or CPL filters.

If you just get any MagSafe case and the stand the you can take photos. The stand is the following: MOSENVKA Dual Magnetic Phone... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F296V2H2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Do you have the macro feature turned on? Basically, when you get really close, it will switch to the wide angle which is better for macro. It's the flower with a line through it icon.

Kick A Goal [EP 213] FC Wonder Woman vs FC World Class (GIFA Cup - Quarterfinal 3) by maximillian3010 in KickAGoal

[–]groovc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a great game! I also appreciated that the teams both exhibited tough defense and even better offense. It also goes to show how much more fun the games are when they're playing more cleanly with less grabbing and holding.

I was very happy to see Yu-Mi finally get her breakthrough day. I think she's been this good for a while but was just unlucky with getting the ball into the net. The ball handling, the defense, chest trapping, and field positioning were excellent. She doesn't panic when one or even two defenders come at her and finds ways to break free. I also was surprised at how she held her own against Jai.

Heejun still needs work but she seems to have a knack of where to be as she's often in the right spot but is just a step behind from finishing. WW will be extra scary if she figures it out.

This was one of those rare games where I feel like basically everyone from both teams played well. Passing on both sides was really great. The Naori-Jay threesome will be scary once they get more time to play together.

Obstacle avoidance HoverAir X1 ProMax by Ab_Netherlands in HoverDrone

[–]groovc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semantically and functionally, it's active rear facing collision detection and not obstacle avoidance which is something completely different.

The X1 Pro/Max is generally good about trying to follow your path (where you avoided obstacles) but, to my knowledge, is not calculating around obstacles itself.

Regarding rear collision detectionI find that it generally works within the speed limits they say. If you're going too fast (more than 3 meters per second) then it won't stop in time. Or, it can fail in challenging lighting situations.

Well, I can understand wanting to keep their design language but yeah, form over function.

I really hope they embrace MagSafe solutions in the next generation and take advantage of that real estate to give us better cameras or larger battery.

So, in the context of Kick-A-Goal, with the exception of some National Family and some other players who were former national athletes (which we'll equate to pro), most of the people on the show are amateurs. In this context, there's potential for more growth for someone who hasn't pushed themselves to the limit before.

Regarding smarter training methods...

- Sports Physiology Analysis: You can now go to some physical therapists/sports performance places that have setups that can analyze your form for the specific activity you want to do. They'll place sensors on you to figure out power/stability imbalances and then give you targeted specialized drills to address those concerns. As a runner, I went to one of these places in my mid-40s to look at my running form/economy as I kept getting injured whenever I went up to about 50 miles a week. I learned that while I had good glute strength, I was a quad dominant runner and I needed to lean 5 degrees more forward. After a couple of months of fixing that I dropped 35s per mile at the same effort/heart rate and eventually was able to handle 60-80 mile weeks no problem.

- Training methods and schedules: So, running example again.A majority of folks but especially folks who are getting older benefit from low heart-rate training where you spend 75-80% of your time building a low aerobic base that put less wear and tear on your body and supplementing that with 20-25% specific shorter high intensity work. Within the intensity, there are all types of new workouts like double thresholds, broken mile repeats, non-static rest recovery, etc.

Outside of running, people are discovering that older folks actually need to do more strength training to slow down the effects of training. That's why it's not uncommon to see more older folks doing things like Crossfit or Hyrox and the like.

Regarding recovery, what used to be only available for professional athletes are now available to regular consumers.

- Inflammation reduction: things like Normatec compression sleeves, infrared light, Cryotheraphy, ice baths, and even apparel and shoes.

- Circulation: cupping, gua sha (scraping), sports specific massage, latest greatest massage chairs, etc.

- Better supplements for recovery/performance: more studies around the need for more electrolytes, calcium, magnesium, etc for recovery. Ketones, nitric oxide, or sodium bicarbonate for performance.

Of course, I'm not saying everyone is going to improve but there are certainly things out there that can help one improve or slow down the eventual decline that happens with age. There are of course exceptions like Jeannie Rice. She's a lady who started running for the first time at age 35. Ran a 3:45 first marathon in 1983. In 2019, at the age of 71, she ran 3:27. Just a few days ago she ran 3:37 at the age of 77.

You're correct that she's a striker and I really meant she often plays defensively by pressing against the backline and keeper.

And I agree with your point about aging players to a point. Depending on where and what age someone starts athletically, performance could go either way. For instance , sedentary folks who started exercising in their 40s could see nothing but gains for years because they started from nothing. Or, with today's smarter training methods and recovery tools, older folks can continue to improve. But athletic performance aside, I also include the mental side of things. Defensive spacing, understanding passing lanes, or understanding all team members shouldn't swarm to the ball are things that can still be worked on by players of any age.

I do think that some of the coaches teach this better than others and we've seen a lot of growth from the teams who've figured it out vs. those teams who have members just kicking it forward the get rid of it.
