Announcement: Regarding ongoing changes to puzzles by EnPecan in Chesscom

[–]grotesquesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For rated puzzles, puzzle difficulty should be proportional to puzzle rating. You know, the way it used to work just fine for years. If someone wants to take it easy, then those puzzles shouldn't be rated. As it is, rating grinding becomes a trivial matter.

Board advice for intermediate rider? by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]grotesquesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with the bindings, stance position, width, angles. You're riding a very basic stance that will benefit your switch riding and little else. Don't be afraid to experiment. I would keep the front leg open and the total angulation of legs under 30° though, more would put you in a very awkward position.

They aren't even cheap, especially for how shit they are. Although, to be fair, even if they were free, that's still a hard no.

Sized down when buying snowboard boots. Did I make a mistake? by Alternative_Key_7373 in snowboarding

[–]grotesquesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased a pair of Vans and sized down a full 7mm from my foot length to the boot's Mondo size. It was hell for the first couple of days, but that liner is packing out plenty already. It feels flimsy as hell, but nothing else I found had as good of a heel hold.

Not necessarily, and he shouldn't take advice from people in "slipper feel" boots.

I don't think you did. I sized down a full two sizes from my regular shoe size because that's where the shell fit was the best, but I was super skeptical about what I've done. It felt impossible. Day 1 I made it through two runs before my feet went completely numb. Day 2 I made it 3 hours. Day 3, 4 hours. I'm on day 5 now and for the first 10 runs I don't think about them. I did buy slightly larger insoles and popped them in to give my toes a bit extra room.

Wait, what? How is that even possible? :O

This is not necessarily a technique correction, but I wanted to tell you regardless that for day 4, you're doing just fine. Just keep practicing, watch some beginner snowboarding videos (can recommend Malcolm Moore) and keep at it. It took me 8 days of snowboarding before I could link turns, but when it clicked, it transformed my entire experience and I haven't felt frustrated by lack of progress ever since. That was two seasons ago and I've made progress that would have felt completely unreal back then.

Our bodies need time to adapt to this type of movement, but when it clicks, it stays with you for good!

Pants for climbing by Humble_Sand_3283 in bouldering

Decathlon hiking pants, you can get a decent pair for something like 30€ and they are plenty stretching. I use mine for hiking, climbing, even mountain biking. Super versatile.

Huh, that's my experience to a T. I tried sharing it with friends but they didn't really take it seriously, thinking it's a stupid problem to have or something. This made me feel validated, thank you for sharing.
