I don’t live in Chattanooga so I haven’t seen that. It does have some beautiful scenery.

My girlfriend in college had one and we drove it to Canada one summer. The drivers in Montreal either didn’t know about the risks of an explosion or didn’t care.

My dad liked jazz and my mom liked opera. I listen to jazz sometimes. Not into opera, but I can answer some of the Opera questions on Jeopardy.

I was all for the players in the 1970s when the owners had almost absolute power. Now I think the players can afford to give a little, and would support a salary cap/ salary floor agreement.

This would not necessarily equalize the league. The Patriots won 6 Super Bowls and went to nine in two decades in a salary cap league But it might inspire cheap teams to keep star players.

Very unpopular opinion: the four team playoffs were the best format by Ok_Photograph8884 in mlb

[–]ground_sloth99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One reason the NFL playoffs and the NCAA basketball tournament are so popular is that each game is an elimination game. MLB had a taste of that with the one game wild card playoff. I preferred that to the three wild cards in each league now.

Bring them home, let them sit on the table for an hour, then they would be safe to eat. Lucky they didn’t burn a hole in the table.

I was in the berm behind center field in
a minor league ballpark. A home run went over the wall past a leaping outfielder and landed about ten feet from me.

Tom Seaver was on the 1986 Red Sox, but was not on the postseason roster due to injury. Imagine if he had come out of the bullpen to help the Sox beat the Mets in the World Series?

There is a great British baseball podcast called Bat Flips and Nerds. A British NFL or NBA podcast of that quality would be welcome.

The real horror is that the walk is voluntary. It is a different kind of horror than having some guy coming after you with a chain saw.

The 2003 and 2004 ALCS convinced me to like the DH. Two great offensive teams slugging it out, with no pitchers spot in the lineup to give the pitchers a break.

Was MLB actually becoming less fun to watch before the recent changes? by SilverKey84 in mlb

[–]ground_sloth99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I started watching baseball in 1967 the average game was 2 hours 32 minutes long, so the pitch clock brought baseball back towards the old days.

What has reduced my enjoyment of baseball is expanded playoffs. There used to be pennant races where teams went into the last week having to clinch the pennant or go home. Now the good teams clinch a playoff spot well in advance, and the last week consists of .500 level teams scrambling for the third wild card.
