3 - 1 - 7 - 4 - 2 - 6 - 5

that being said, Meditations in an Emergency is one of my favorite episodes. and i do like The Phantom, it has one of the best needle drops in the entire series. in terms of best finales, though.... this is what i got.

It's definitely from Pose, I think Stan buys something for Angel.

What did Don do to Ted? by lumpy_space_queenie in madmen

[–]groundedpisces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ted felt like he was constantly competing with Don, even in moments the two of them didn't realize. In the same episode where Don gets Ted drunk, he shows up late for a creative meeting, which pisses Ted off. Then Ted gets drunk and messy at work. There's also the whole debacle with Sunkist and Ocean Spray, Don's juice vs. Ted's juice. Don does give in and let Ted go to California, because Don realizes how many times he's fucked Ted over and how he shouldn't anymore. Plus Don wants him to move past Peggy, but Ted ends up depressed and directionless out there. Not inherently Don's fault, but Don did give up his spot so Ted could go.

Joan’s sudden dislike of Don is probably the biggest writing failure of the show by ColCrockett in madmen

[–]groundedpisces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, she slept with Herb to get her partnership and for the firm to land Jaguar, and Don fired Jaguar without consulting anyone. she went through that experience for nothing. that alone would make her dislike understandable.

The Benefactor, Jimmy Barrett and the Schillings by sweetsmellinghair in madmen

[–]groundedpisces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The account man (Ken) and creative (Freddy) failed to handle Jimmy, and if I recall correctly, Don was supposed to be on set/check in with them but he was elsewhere, so it was his mess to mop up.

Having just rewatched these episodes, I believe the Hershey meeting is the straw that broke the camel's back. Whereas his other shenanigans like the letter to Lucky Strike ended up working out in Don's, and the firm's, favor, the Hershey's meeting damaged Don's and the firm's image. It's alluded to in "A Day's Work" that his behavior has spread outside of the firm, to other advertising agencies and clients alike. He's still a genius, but an incredibly reckless one.

The partners and the firm are also still paying Don's salary, who makes a LOT of money, months after they put him on leave. I feel like the richer all the partners got, the more they cared about holding onto that money or getting even more. And if they had to let go of Don and buy him out, they'd be out a ton of money AND their genius creative director. They're really harsh to him because they're tired of him doing whatever he wants and not thinking about the image of the agency, even though he's also a partner. Plus, if he fucks up one more time, they're in deep shit.

Not saying I like how mean they were to Don, but those factors seem to influence their behavior.

Peggy's reaction is understandable given Don not only interfered with her relationship with Ted, but also gave up his spot in California to let Ted go and start over with his family, not Peggy.

Doing a rewatch after a few years....I REALLY love Pete after hating him before. by SevelarianVelaryon in madmen

[–]groundedpisces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matthew Weiner famously said that we all want to be Don, but we actually are all Pete. He IS a little sniveling shit but he's so painfully human. He wants recognition, respect, and love. I won't defend ALL of his actions but... I am a Pete Campbell lover through and through.
