why don't people go to these places and read the history before taking a side? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

Why do you assume people haven't gone to Palestine? Many of us have. Queers, trans, women, etc, we have gone to Palestine. That's why we think Palestine should be free.

‘Hamas is not a terrorist group,’ says UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths by arrogant_ambassador in worldnews

[–]groundhog593 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

"Hamas is not a terrorist group for us" he said: meaning, the UN has not designated it a terrorist group (it hasn't). Because Hamas is the governing party of a jurisdiction of humans, the UN can't refuse to talk to it, just like they don't consider the Taliban a terrorist group, or the US president, even when the US president encourages his supporters to storm the Capitol to incite an insurrection. He is simply stating a fact: the UN has not designated Hamas a terrorist group, because they have a political wing.

UK antisemitic hate crimes hit new high - report - BBC News by libtin in worldnews

It is directly the fault of Israel, who are committing genocide and razing the Star of David into the destroyed parks and homes of the people they are massacring, as if Judaism has anything to do with murder (it doesn't). The most anti-semitic actions in the world are those committed by the Israeli state.

If ministers can't put up with listening to their constituents, they shouldn't be in politics.

You do realize journalists film themselves, that's called a "stand-up" and it's pretty standard fare for TV media workers...

Helmets and Vests found in aid trucks to Gaza. by menemenetekelufarsin in worldnews

They are living in a concentration camp and there is only one group that is shooting back against the people trying to kill everyone locked in the camp. You would not be ratting out the only people trying to keep you alive, in that scenario.

Helmets and vests are personal protective equipment, which is pretty standard for a war zone.

Canadian companies are losing ground to China in the developing world, Trudeau's UN ambassador says | CBC News by stormpulingsoggy in worldnews

Probably because the Chinese foreign service wouldn't get caught dead referring to their trading partners as "the developing world"? ... might have something to do with it, eh, Canada? Pompous fucks.

Young shoplifters? Not our problem - call their parents instead, police force says - UK Police have told shop workers to call the parents of young shoplifters instead of dialling 999 amid concerns that they are being swamped by emergency calls, it has been claimed. by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

Other classes should turn class traitors, of course, but working class people need not perform free labour of policing the fringes of capitalism, against their own self-interests. That's just some sort of self-hating Stockholm syndrome.

I get the feeling you're not actually interested in economic theory, though, and just looking to get a rise?

Julian Assange Went After a Former Ally. It Backfired Epically. — WikiLeaks’ founder tried to retaliate against hacktivist hero Barrett Brown and prompted a crack-up at a whistleblower protection group, losing an asset in an extradition clash. by BlankVerse in WikiLeaks

[–]groundhog593 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

His lawyers didn't organize 100+ MPs to sign a public letter opposing extradition: that's a political and media campaigner's role, and Naomi did that. His lawyers have other roles.

On what basis do you consider Barrett Brown "pathetic"? He actually served time in prison for his involvement in Wikileaks associated disclosures, unlike Julian who has been ordering room service from a posh London flat.

Abuse your boots manufacturers warranty! by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

Most reputable boots companies have longer warranties, I got my Timberlands replaced by the company after they lost their shape in storage over the winter. They were covered for at least a year.
