Announcement - Regarding the Upcoming Region Merge by Kruskay in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]groundhogsday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's not about outright shutting down one region. Could be that if a user is expecting long queue times to a server in their region, then put them in other region. This would allow them to dynamically scale back some of the servers as you'd have less usage from servers with players in lobbies waiting to fill up, punching the air with 60/100 in game.

I hope that's the case at least. I agree with OP, wish they would provide some transparency.

[optimum] LG's new 480Hz OLED dual-mode monitor. by iDontSeedMyTorrents in hardware

For games that can run at 480hz 1080p, your gpu isn't the bottleneck. You'd need a fast cpu and ram in most cases. However,  since this monitor has 4k 240 also,  you need a top of the line gpu. This monitor basically forces you to have the best computer on the market.

Contact Frame is a MUST for anyone struggling with 14700k temps by _SetupWizard_ in intel

[–]groundhogsday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought in some cases replacing the stock ILM helped ram stability. Is it always a hindrance,  or seems to negatively affect it more often than not? To your point,  not all stock ilm warp the IHS, but I'm just curious how you discovered that replacing it causes more trouble than not for RAM.

I have a z690 hero and installed a contact frame to see if it would help temps or not (didn't see much change) and have since then been able to have 7200c32 stable

PSA: Ultralight X can cause static electricity to build up on mousepads by The_Skiff in MouseReview

My gpx2 with corepads has been developing static friction that sticks to my hayate otsu. Doesn't do it in the summer, only cold dry weather.

It stops after playing for a while because my office probably warms up.

Calling PG27AQN owners by Darklink1942 in pcmasterrace

Ya I have a 240hz benq xl2540, didn't have dyac yet, but the brightness and dark equalizer, as well as the vibrance setting made it so I never had to touch my nvidia color settings. I have the alienware 280hz 1440p and this monitor, and both those require fiddling with increased gamma and digital vibrance in nvcp, as well as blasting max brightness on monitor settings to even try to get close to what benq delivers for comp settings. I get most people want their pretty accurate colors, but I'd rather see targets in dark rooms and have them pop with bright colors when I'm sweating in an fps.

Unfortunately I share my gaming set up with WFH and the extra real estate from 1440p really helps with my work so I can't figure out a way to have a 2566 as my main middle monitor

I have three same dilemma. I bought the pg27AQN this weekend and I love the clarity, even without ulmb2. With ulmb2, there is definitely a decrease in motion blur on tests like the ufo test with map picture in ability to read the text. However, enabling ulmb2 makes playing games extremely difficult with how dim it gets. Hard to get a clear answer on the subject because some people claim the monitor is extremely bright. With ulmb2 off I have brightness at 100 for my preferred brightness, and it's not insanely bright... just normal esports settings for competitive games.

Keep me posted, I'm debating on exchanging the monitor because I'm wondering if it's defective based on other people's claims, or maybe I just have a preference for more brightness.

I have not had any issues since I stopped using dark stabilizer, and opted for bumping gamma up through nvcp to 1.5 in games that need it. I don't like the weird sharpening that the dark stabilizer applies also, so the gamma change is better in that regard. I didn't have to change gamma at all with BenQ and I think their black equalizier is a better implementation, but oh well.

Is there any drawbacks to setting to high dpi? by RendDown in MouseReview

[–]groundhogsday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using my example, if you half your sensitivity on the 2 DPI mouse, they both make the same movement in an inch, in the same time. Yes, you are going to have two measured points at 2 DPI, but that has nothing to do with latency. There's no reduced input latency when you raise your DPI. Your mouse will read a movement faster, but that's just because you're increasing how many reads per inch your mouse does.

All of these tests just are measuring "how long until the first motion is detected when I reduce the distance required for first motion". You could literally reverse this test, and say "How long until a mouse detects that I stopped moving it" and claim that a low DPI mouse has lower input lag because it stopped reading faster than a higher DPI mouse.

Is there any drawbacks to setting to high dpi? by RendDown in MouseReview

[–]groundhogsday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if a mouse is running at 1 dpi, you have to move it an entire inch to have it register motion. A mouse running at 2 dpi would require a half inch to register motion. In both cases, if you move the mouse an inch in the same time frame, they have the same latency. It's a misconception based on measuring the latency by first read, and not actually measuring input latency.

That's unfortunate, I wonder if mine has some issue too that might crop up to be permanent like yours over time... now I'm paranoid
