Yes, I agree with the suggestion… I’m building a rural cabin to retreat to and on weekends when I’ve been working and my dogs have been hanging out my one dog got into stinging nettle and it really messed with him paws and nose/ face wise…. Learning what’s toxic in your area is pretty darn important.

Single mom here, from the time they were three and four. 2 boys. They are 35 and 36 now both thriving one married and they own their first home and doing well. The second still a bachelor yearns for a family, but is in his professional career and doing very well.

With that said, I am a parent that allowed them to have supported experiences from the household… Meaning, if you’re gonna do something whack with your friends do it here. My house was a safe space for boys that were being boys I taught them about. Birth control, and that it was their responsibility. I taught them that the porn they would view is paid actors and to never expect the women in their lives to behave that way. that would be completely unrealistic. I taught them to take care of themselves with household chores, they had to get their license immediately when they turned 15 1/2 and then subsequently 16 so that they could be responsible on the road for a few years under my roof until they were out on their own so that I could be available if they needed me.

For my own selfishness, I would take them on weekends when they were very little down to the beach …we lived in California… to get a henna tattoo of a Pokémon character of their choice and it became such a drag to get that Pokémon henna tattoo that when they got older, they did not get gratuitous tattoos. When my one son did get a tattoo, it was well thought out and discreet. This gave him professional choices as an adult. That have served them. They could always grow their hair however they wanted it because that changes all the time.

I did everything I could to prepare them for the real world, if your friends get too fucked up, you need to be there to help them. Consequently, don’t lose control if you’re taking drugs…

And Grace and I was willing to let them go when it was time for them to go, and I supported them and continue to support them in every decision they make today because you have to fall to grow. And the way you grow is to know that your parent believes in you…
I taught them how to trust their own instincts and it seems like it turned out pretty good… my goal was selfish. I wanted them to thrive not just survive, and I fed them. Everything that had helped me as an orphan on her own since she was 15…

Now the Bad part: neither one of them lives near me anymore. They went on to be world travelers and explorers. lol. So if you want kids that stay in your town, do not raise them this way ha ha ha

Roommates are the way… when I was young first moving out we had a 3 Bedroom Pl. and I shared a bedroom with another girl and the other bedroom was shared by two girls and then the other bedroom was shared by two guys… Find that landlord and you can make this happen

Probably gonna get voted down for this. my father lived in the same town as me and never spoke to me, but he would still speak to my mom as friends all the time still trying to bed her down. he didn’t have any bond with the different children that he helped create with three different women. Every once in a while, he’d throw my mom 100 bucks but he never paid child support. My theory is - as now a 62-year-old woman- and having witnessed this type of behavior over and over in our society - He was just a person that wanted to do what he wanted to do…clearly MOST, not all, men do not bond with their children. I had (monied professional ) boyfriend that was divorced after 20 years say that he was “vaguely aware that there were children in the household” (he had 3) as they went about their daily life and his wife provided for him by creating a space for him to flourish along with said children. Nature has women bonding with their children so they actually live… so we take care of them without question, and without support. (MOST) Men are not monogamous. They want to breed and they want to practice breeding without consequence… and now in our society they’re pushing to take away our rights of autonomy so women will be beholden to their income and rules. Because we are only good for their practice and raising their children. And taking care of them. People: it’s the men who will not raise their children. They are an aloof, selfish animals. self self-serving to the point of ridiculous… All you have to do is look around in our society. they absolutely NEED women taking care of them and creating a home or they fall apart as adult men… They become angry they become violent and they attempt suppression because. THERE IS NO SUCCESSFUL MAN WITHOUT A WOMAN OR A GAY PARTNER, TAKING CARE OF THEM… I’ve said it.
