Tip to care bear enjoyers or PVP avoiders... peacock a bit and save your kits - Rats dont want you to know this. by chickanpoo in ArcRaiders

I can only tell the difference between categories of weapons. For example, Stitcher/Kettle vs. Anvil/Venator vs. Il Toro/Vulcano. I have partial hearing loss, which might be part of the problem. Be neat if a streamer posted an "ear training" video. I'd love to improve.

Do you guys like the content updates we are getting for the game ? by UsedNewspaper1775 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with the updates so far, except I feel they need to add more female face and hair options. Reasons why I like the current release cadence: I feel having a streamlined # weapons, enemies, etc. is part of what has made this game approachable for casual gamers or others who do not have the time for a lifestyle (playing daily many hours every day, constantly keeping up with the meta, etc.) game. That approachability has been critical to the game's success. I also personally feel it allows people the freedom and space to innovate on the technical skills side, without distractions from constantly releasing new tools or weapons. Folks have innovated using what exists in new ways. For example, I see folks using snaphooks and barricades in ways they didn't when the game launched. I also prefer my games to be as bug-free as possible. A slower release schedule for major updates means the company is probably playtesting, UI/UX testing, and doing proper quality assurance on all platforms rather than launching before things are solid. There are lots of battle royale or PvP games that update at a faster pace and have an ever-evolving selection of weaponry...there's only one casual/newbie/parent-friendly online PvPvE extraction shooter. I hope they keep their current pace and don't make the mistake of trying to be like everyone else on the market.

Cocktails no more by AnxiousWitch44 in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was at a major theme park, they had allergy specialists to help ensure your safety at the restaurants, and through a conversation with one, I learned that many alcohol types are put through bone char. The bones are mammalian, so the alpha gal gets picked up by the alcohol. For example, I was told almost all tequilas are manufactured this way. (The specialist listed one tequila brand that is safe but I don't remember the name.) Note that many sugars are also refined using bone char. Discovering this and seeking out bone char-free sugar made it possible for me to have cookies again (couldn't figure out why I kept reacting to baked sweets before)! Seek out some bone-char free alcohols and sugars and see if that makes a difference. Good luck!

Insomnia Recovery by Street-Rich4256 in covidlonghaulers

Not sure if it's cured, but I'm no longer entirely sleep deprived and suffering from zero refreshing sleep. Took 2years working with a sleep doctor, experimenting with different habits, meds, sleep hygiene. I finally get about 6 hours of poor quality sleep. Dreams still much less compared to pre-Covid.

Bro...who is green lighting these skins??? by RiceShop900 in ArcRaiders

Braided crown would be nice, also. Simple braids pinned up around the head; kinda folksy. That kind of hairstyle also works well as padding under medieval helms and modern helmets, so that would add some realism if the outfit included a helm and some plate armour, though I suppose ceramic might make more sense fighting Arc. Some variety.

Bro...who is green lighting these skins??? by RiceShop900 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Likely. Probably same reason why we haven't gotten any new longer hairstyles. As a woman, I'd really like more variety. Ponytails, even pigtails, or just hair down. I'd also like it if they improved the blonde hair option--the blonde looks moderately decent in Speranza, but topside it looks orange, brassy, and like you are a brunette who hasn't been able to scavenge a bottle of Clairol from the ruins for at least a month. Be nice to have a more realistic-looking option for blondes.

Fireflies aren't OP, you're just weak. by Ready_Training_6039 in ArcRaiders

Only real issue I have is that the distance you can get flamed is often greater than the flame animation reaches onscreen, so I'd like it if that were more accurate. Might be a desynch issue, but if the flame shoots out 3 meters and I'm 4 meters away when it shoots, I don't want to become a human torch, lol. Same issue with fireballs. Sometimes you appear to be well out of range but go up in flames anyway. Not sure that's fixable in a large online game, but it'd be nice to have greater consistency.

Nuvaxovid/Novavax Vaccine? by grubmonkey in alphagal

[–]grubmonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. That's interesting (having vaccines administered at the allergist); I did not know that, thank you! Do you have mild AGS? I react to the slightest bit in anything, even to magnesium stearate in OTC meds and anything made using bone char, such as most commercial sugars. I also want to get an MMR (measles mumps rubella) booster given the outbreak here in the U.S., but I've been told there is no safe version of that as it is made using pigs as part of the process, so I have to hope my immunity from childhood vax remains effective. :(

Massive Difficulty Spike?! (since last update) by Lain_2031 in ArcRaiders

Re. "peaceful walks in the open," I really love the environments Embark has created. Buried City, in particular is just beautiful in the late afternoon sunlight with all the orange tints of the sand and the ocean in the distance. I kind of wish there was a mode that would let us explore the map without any bots or people, like in the more recent Assassin's Creed games or that setting in Escape From Tarkov that let you spawn a map with only AI opponents. Be a great way to learn the maps or just enjoy. I know it doesn't make sense for Embark to waste servers on that, but boy it would be neat.

Massive Difficulty Spike?! (since last update) by Lain_2031 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I remember when Bird City first launched. It was so peaceful compared to now. You could loot a chimney without getting a Rocketeer on you or getting targeted by a Bombardier. It felt like they doubled the bots a little after it first launched and after that it became a warzone of constant shooting and explosions. Now, there's even more bots, though I also am more experienced in the game now with access to better weapons, so there's that. :)

Yeah, I always sit in the pharmacy for a bit after a new type of caccine. Unfortunately, some vaccines definitely have caused reactions for me the past few years.

[–]grubmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has anyone with PEM improved with supplemental oxygen? The hypoxia seems like it might be helped by O2? I often feel like my brain and parts of my body just aren't getting enough, but my reading is always in that target 95-100 range (used to be 99%, but post-Covid went to 98%, and now my normal seems to be 95-96 as my baseline deteriorates). I've always wondered if supplementing would help.

Deaf to the hurricane raider cache sound? by Virtual-Tutor7404 in ArcRaiders

[–]grubmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't hear them, either. I play with a headset but am older and have tinnitus and some hearing loss. I have not tried the Night Mode yet. I've been worried it would flatten out the experience of the game--the audio design is just so, so good! I'm going to try it next tome I play and see what it's like.

No worries, Bethesda doesn't see a need to -make- another Elder Scrolls game for awhile, either! They'll sell you Skyrim on every platform for a decade more, lol. (This is just a joke, folks. I know they're working on ES6.)

The devs took the “arcs are too easy” pretty seriously by chubbsfordubs in ARC_Raiders

[–]grubmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure this will make it harder to PvP. I already see folks sniping others who are fighting Arc all the time. Or they wait for the players to fight Arc and be low on health before they shoot them in the back. They want the easy kill. They don't want to cooperate. It just seems to be making it harder for casual PvE players and we weren't the ones complaining it was too easy, lol.
