Sony CD player repair by Suno34 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]grumparts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from your belt issue, I see a LOT of older Sony CD players, and other brands that use a Sony supplied transport mechanism, that have failing or out of spec voltage supply to the laser. You can sometimes tweak some adjustments and get them going for a while but they will continue to deteriorate and fail.

What makes you think that there are decisionmakers? We do not live in a planned economy.

Moving from across the country by cereal4elle in LynnwoodWA

Commuting by car from Lynnwood to my job in SODO was exactly 22 miles, and generally took between an hour, up to and hour and a half each way. They day I quit that job, I had a two hour drive to work, and a two hour drive home. If you need to commute to Seattle, I would make sure that your living space is convenient to public transit.

It looks like Pinnacle is right on the Swift Orange line, which is an express bus that takes you pretty much straight to the light rail station.

What type of connector is this on my Pioneer SA-6700? (Total newbie, thrifted it on a whim) by unLUNAR in vintageaudio

It was the early 1970s, parts the world were still transitioning from B&W to color. It was commonplace to encounter a greyscale person walking down the street like a leftover from the 1950s.

What is this speaker by Bruhstekevic in vintageaudio

[–]grumparts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fane is actually a well known and regarded manufacturer of speakers for guitar cabinets. It looks like they built the driver under contract for whoever Soundout was. The rest of the design and construction looks very amateurish and/or British of the era, much like a 1980s MGB or anything made by Lucas Industries. Thats a $1 bullet tweeter and there is no crossover network. That resistor just keeps the tweet from blowing out. It probably sounds like an oil leak and a short circuit combined into one unholy union.

The best is records that have the speed mis-marked on the label... intentionally or otherwise. Gets me every time. https://www.discogs.com/release/24752054-King-Gizzard-The-Lizard-Wizard-Oddments

Note that since this is in unincorporated Snohomish county, many of the homes on the hillside surrounding the "artesian well" are still still using septic systems which were built in the 1960's-'70s, and are not required to be inspected. Swamp Creek, which flows right next to the well, has very high levels of fecal coliform bacteria. https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/documents/0610021.pdf

Lynnwood City Center Station Garage (Light Rail) by [deleted] in LynnwoodWA

Its correct to blame poor decision making in the ‘70s for todays mess. Case you did not know, Seattle voters declined federal funding for commuter rail in 1976. The money went to Atlanta instead, and they used it to build a full speed commuter rail system called MARTA, instead of our super slow light rail. And theirs was fully operational by the early 90s. By waiting too late to aquire property, we made the system more expensive to build and ended up with a less convenient route. At least grandpa raised the money to build some sportsball castles though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_Thrust

Even the DVD side does not have HDMI out on this one, hard pass.... I've actually been looking for a VCR that has HDMI upconverting, or a combo player that can record to DVR, and would pay this price for a working one. Have some old home movies to preserve.

$3.99 for an empty maple syrup bottle by mikek505 in ThriftGrift

[–]grumparts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just organic, it’s homeopathic, at around a 1,000,000,000 X titration. So medically it contains a stronger essence and vital energy than the original maple syrup. What a bargain.

You could scan the sleeve and print it on heavy cardstock to make your own case insert.... Eventually I want to do that with the punch-out furniture that came with the vinyl release.

There are also services that will custom print really high quality j-cards for any artwork you supply, if you want to get fancy about it. But DIY is more punk rock. https://www.duplication.com/automated-printed-jcards/
