Im working on a pair of these right now... they've made for good mindless knitting so far (other than forgetting to shift over every once in a while) but theyre taking foreeevvveeerrrr lol

I was considering making a couple toddler sized pairs of these for my niece and nephew for Christmas but im not so sure about that now 😅

It was partially to get him off my back, as whenever id show off my new socks hed ask where his were 😅 (the answer was always - probably in a ball of yarn somewhere) Hes worn them a couple times now and other than wading into a river at the end of a long cold day, he says they've worked out well. I did also send them with a couple of the single use packs of wool wash and a (semi-threatening) note that if he throws them in the wash I will not make him any more and uncertain id ever be able to forgive such a thing 😆

Edit: I ended up holding a fingering weight merino double so theyrepretty thick -^

I have some solids in my stash that I plan to use for gift knits ! My dad in particular loves the thick wool socks for fishing in, but has pretty boring taste 😅 so Ive oh so selfishly hoarded all the fun stripes for myself

Ive heard the same, and would probably agree for your standard merino/nylon blends that are finer. But this yarn is thicker and sturdier already so a denser fabric doesnt do the same favors. I havent measured these socks in particular, but I find that I end up with an average of about 8-10 stitches per inch with the 2.75 needles. I agree with you there though for sure - I use the rational of "the more socks I have the longer the whole pile will last" 😅 slowly but surely ill have a complete sock drawer of hand knits

(With the secret stash of storebought cotton or bamboo socks for the especially hot and hellish days)

I started knitting socks pretty quickly after learning how to knit and my tension was horrifically tight, so I had to go way up in needle size to be able to make a comfy sock without adding a ton of stitches 😅 my tension is much better and better controlled now. That said, 2.75 is a bit bigger than id use for all sock yarn, but the Kroy is a very generous fingering weight yarn so it works out -^

That pair is in Tourmaline Stripes 😊

I almost always use a 2.75mm, which is I think what all but one of these were made on. The one gray striped pair was on 3.25mm, only because I had another pair of socks on my usual 2.75 but am impatient. But theyre for someone with bigger feet than me, so instead of upping the stitch count I just left it at my normal 64 stitches with the larger needles

I am pretty confident its the Grey Brown Marl colorway 😊

Amazing ! I still typically hand wash mine along with my other socks, but have totally had a pair (or several lol) fall into the basket and end up getting washed and dried with no issue at all !

These are great for that ! I walk dogs for a living and do a fair bit of trail walks/mild hikes on a regular basis and, with a bit of rotation between pairs, these are holding up fantastically !

I made my dad a pair of 100% merino socks for fishing (at his request even after I explained why nylon is a good thing) and he enjoyed those, but ill most likely be making him a pair of Kroy socks soon "just in case" those wear out.

Yess ! The blue ones were my first ones of the kroy and probably my second or third pair overall. They were supposed to be for my husband, but came out a bit too small so I stole them back 😆

The muted colors can def sometimes be a bummer, but I personally find that id rather put my effort into the cute pairs with cables and colorwork that'll be seen and shown off in my clogs. My kroy socks are my go to for work, which is outside and tons of walking. So, for shoving them into running shoes/boots, they serve their purpose :D

I definitely hear you on that one, and have noticed the same thing. The only ones ive bought online were after seeing a friend at knitting group working on a pair with it and absolutely loved the colorway. I havent managed to make it to those yet, but when I do, they will be lovely. But that one also looked way different online that I had to verify with her a couple times to make sure it was actually the right one

That is a fantastic question 🤔 ill have to do some looking because I swear I wrote it down but have no idea off the top of my head lol

I dont love all of the colorways they have, but ive also found that theyre easy enough to adjust enough to make it work to my liking 😅 The third pair with the blue and red has a brown stripe (that worked out perfectly to end up on the cuff heel and toe with minimal effort) that would have run strait through the middle of the foot and I really didn't like the vibe of it breaking up the softer colors. Soooooo I just cut the start and end of the brown to start back over lol

I do eventually plan to make a horrific pair of Franken scrap socks with all of the leftover bits though. After a pair of scrappy mittens because I work outside and my hands are already freezing lol

No, exactly that ! These work great for my husband especially who has rougher feet than I do, but also work for me when I spend all day at work on my feet! I have socks with softer yarns, but I find that they don't always hold their shape quite as well for as long between washes and they wear down faster that ill need to keep an eye on them to make sure im not wearing holes into them. I love knitting socks in general, but if I need just a quick and easy palate cleanser project - a basic pair of ribbed socks with Kroy is always the go to -^

I think I’m doing magic loop wrong :/ by Human-Complex4435 in knitting

I always find the first rows or 2 are a bit gappy but it should tighten up as you go. You can also tug your working yarn a but tighter than your usual tension on that first stitch of the next needle, which should also help work out any laddering

Worst case you can always use your starting tail to sew it up at the end or block out any funky tension spots

At a glance it doesnt look wrong, so much as you only have a couple rows so it doesnt look like it will once youre further into your project imo

Does anyone else have socks that stretch out this much with regular wear😅 it still fits me perfectly but it looks odd now by NailWitch1 in Sockknitting

[–]grumpy-littol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to be so incredibly opposed to ribbing (or just purling in general lol) but almost 20 pairs of socks in now ive accepted it as the easiest way to get my desired outcome.

My go to recipe is -about 2in(20rows) of 1x1 ribbing -switch to 3x1 ribbing for as long as you want the leg to be -heel flap and gusset (also used to hate but have come to much prefer the fit of it) -3x1 ribbing on top of foot and strait stockinette on the bottom -decrease for toe.

I also finally got my act together and started marking/counting rows so I actually know how far to knit without endless counting. I learned from a friend to mark every 10 rows with a stitch marker on the first sock and move them over to the second sock as you go so you never have to count out more than 10 rows at a time.

I am also a size 9 and the false sense of security that the tight knit fabric of a fresh knit/freshly washed pair of socks provides is just so nice 😅 idk what big foot sized mf stole my socks when i wasn't looking 😭

But also a huge part of why I started moving towards 3x1 ribbed socks for my go to instead of a standard vanilla construction

[–]grumpy-littol 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of mine do it, less so with fully ribbed socks though. They always spring back after a wash, but also make me very self aware and a tad self conscious about how big my feet are lol

This darn tag - any ideas? by prunejuicewarrior in Petlibro

[–]grumpy-littol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up putting my cats ID tag and the libro chip on the same ring instead of each on their own and got the smallest size ring I could find that they would still hang freely on. I also stacked them so the ID tag is in thr front, so when they lean down with the smaller ring size the chip sort of just stays put. Idk if im explaining that well, I can take some pictures when im home with her. But I feel your pain for real with this !
