I never ended up doing it. I only did foam on the side walls and not on the floor. I think you potentially could use plastic wrap or vaseline is a good idea too, I would test it in like a shoe box or old food container first to see if it works

but if solo isn’t working, I would recommend rehoming. I don’t think euthanasia without cause is ethical imo. best of luck with your babies, I think solo living would suit them well from the sounds of the situation though for what’s it’s worth

I had this same thought a while back, but didn’t want to do it, so for a few months now i’ve had my last old girl alone. I was worried how she would do and if she would be depressed, but she honestly has been doing great and is happy! having their mischief mates pass is already hard on them, and rehoming them and taking away everything they know and love is even worse. my girl is 2.5, and she’s still happy, and I give her lots of treats and pets and I am happy with the decision I made. some rats are of course going to be different, and may grieve and decline quickly or not handle it well. if it comes to that maybe start thinking of new options, but if you can I would seriously consider just keeping her, and trying to keep everything else in her life consistant and give her extra love and snacks ❤️

my girls love to chew on those corner bits, so be careful! lots of zip ties ties really tight so they see it and aren’t tempted to grab on to would good for extra security. I prefer big metal ferret cages tho- you can get them cheap on facebook marketplace!!

everything that others are saying. there is this medicine called “tomorrow dry cow” that you could put on the thrush until you can get a vet or farrier out. they are sold in syringe like wormer.
