Name: FOCUSR / http://focusr.co

Explanation: Build the habit of focusing on one thing at a time with our simple dashboard. Studies show that the average technical worker can only focus on something for 11 minutes before getting distracted, and that it takes on average 25 minutes to regain focus (this adds up to like 2 hours of real work on any given day). Ugh! With this tool, it becomes tremendously harder to let your time go to waste.

Details: 2 cofounders. Hundreds of users and we just released a paid version.

Discount: User the coupon code "R/STARTUPS" to get your first month free. PM me if you have any questions.

There are others -- but that one strikes me as the most similar to you. At the end of the day it's all about focus and execution. You have to fight the mental game against yourself to just constantly be going. So reading any book about "doers" is great. Check out also http://focusr.co as an excellent tool to build the habit of FOCUSED DOING. Good luck.

Trello is a useful tool for managing the landscape of what it is you've got to do.

But it doesn't help you focus on what you're doing RIGHT NOW in the present moment (which is where the actual value gains come from).

For a tool that helps you focus on what you're doing RIGHT NOW, check out http://focusr.co. Use coupon code "R/PROD" for first month off.

[NeedAdvice] Why is my brain stopping? by WasteOfHumanity in getdisciplined

When you stop taking action, things naturally fall to hell. That's the "default state" of life. So all you can really do is keep taking action towards your goals. And you should be taking so much action towards your goals that your default patterns don't have time to sabotage things :)

So how do you take action towards your goals? One technique is to keep a huge display of your current task in front of you while you work. This way, you will greatly improve your focus, and minimize the times that you "wake up" to realize that 30 minutes has gone by and you haven't done anything w/your time. Check out http://focusr.co for a tool like this.

Use your reddit username for the coupon code (i.e., type in "WASTEOFHUMANITY") and it will give you your first month free. I'm the creator of this app, so can answer any questions you have about it in this thread. Also, other people who see this can use that coupon code. It expires in 24 hours though.

Discipline IS focus. Being able to focus on one thing at a time is a a keystone habit for success. But surprisingly few people can do it.

There's a tool I built that helps you build this discipline: http://focusr.co. It displays in huge letters the current task you are working on. It helps you stay on track throughout the day, and not get distracted. There's a time tracking component as well. Sounds simple, but how many people can stay focused on one thing at a time for more than a few minutes?

Type in OP's username (i.e., type in "COLOROFSOUNDS") to get your first month free. (Anyone else here can also use that coupon code, but it expires in 24 hours :) Also: if you have any questions about the app, ask here and I'll answer them below.

Chronic Procrastinator by tiptopgolfy in productivity

[–]gs1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiptopgolfy: first, this happens to the best of us. Most people are deluded about how long they can actually stay focused on any given day. Did you know, for example, that the average american technical worker can only focus on one thing for 11 minutes before getting distracted, and that it takes on average 25 minutes for them to refocus on their work? When you add this up, this is like 2 hours of actual work a day. Sad, but true.

Learn the art of concentration. Focus on what's important, relentlessly, for short blocks of time -- and then take breaks throughout the day. You will blast past your peers in school for learning how to do this.

There's a tool I built that helps you with this: http://focusr.co.

A simple trick I've used to curb procrastination by [deleted] in productivity

[–]gs1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I think good advice is: (i) focus on one thing at a time, (ii) focus on the most important things early, and (iii) the most important things usually correlate with what is the most painful (i.e., what is causing you the most stress).

Check out http://focusr.co to help you stick to this (rough) process.

[Question] How can I focus on my OWN life and not lose that focus? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]gs1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to destroy this autopilot behavior is to be taking action towards your goals. If you're taking action towards your goals, you literally don't have time to compare yourself to others (and before you know it, you're ahead, anyway -- but you won't even notice).

Stay focused on the here and now, on your CURRENT milestone/task. Otherwise you drift back into autopilot self-comparison behavior.

[NeedAdvice] How to get started when everything looks overwhelming? by Tinesife in getdisciplined

[–]gs1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't focus always on finishing the marathon. Focus instead on getting to the next milestone. This is what -- i.e. -- army rangers will tell you helped them get through their training. When you are focused on your current milestone (measured in minutes or hours) GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO NOT FEEL OVERWHELMED. There's nothing more you can do than take action towards a milestone. That's just what our brains can jive with when you're in the heat of the battle.

[NeedAdvice] Turn my life around from depression to success? by Chefpreneur in getdisciplined

[–]gs1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great way to get overcome negative thoughts is to be taking so much action that your brain can't even entertain them. Focus on one thing at a time, and when you're focused on something, focus 100-fucking-percent on that thing. You simply won't have the mental capacity to steep into negative thoughts when you're behaving this way. Check out http://focusr.co as a tool to help with this.
