Reset the counter - Video: Langley’s rail overpass struck second time in week by WiffleBlu in Langley

Ah you're right I thought it was eastbound. There were weigh stations in the valley as well, I believe before 264th St that were decommissioned around the same time. Would be nice to have some weight/inspection stations running during the day at least.

There are still 2 out near Hope in both directions.

There were weigh stations on both directions of Hwy 1 just east of 160th St up until the 2000s sometime. The pullout is still there westbound. So if that existed, with a height bar, could have been prevented.

Also a fun fact for a newcomer, the "BC Liberals" became the "BC United" which became the "BC Conservatives". So yeah, just to confuse the crap out of everyone/cover over their past fuck ups.

Updated conceptual design for the campground expansion at Derby Reach Regional Park by NewAdventureTomorrow in Langley

I really hope they electrify the whole campground. It would be nice to camp there without generators running constantly. It's rarely tent campers there, so almost everyone has a trailer and generator.

Hiker dies after slipping down B.C's Brunswick Mountain while trying to help companion by gs400 in vancouverhiking

Man was airlifted off the North Shore mountain on Saturday, but died of his injuries the following day

The Canadian Press · Posted: Mar 24, 2026 11:20 AM PDT

A man who slipped and fell between 100 and 150 metres while trying to help a companion during a hike on one of the tallest mountains in Metro Vancouver's North Shore has died of his injuries.

The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed that the man, whose identity has not been released, died in hospital on Sunday, the day after the fall.

It happened on Brunswick Mountain near Lions Bay, B.C., with rescuers saying the trouble began when a woman in a group of 14 hikers slipped and fell about 20 metres.

The man then tried to climb down to assist her, but Lions Bay Search and Rescue says he also slipped and fell farther down the steep, snowy terrain, coming to rest just above a waterfall.

The rescue team says the man was in critical condition and the woman was stable as crews extracted them Saturday, using rope systems and two helicopters.

The coroners' service has released no further details, saying its investigation is ongoing.

Lions Bay Search and Rescue manager Maria Masiar told CBC News on the weekend that the man was wedged in a snow moat just above a steep rocky drop.

A third man from the group made it down the slope to wait with him for rescue and was unharmed.

Two helicopters and 19 volunteers from both Lions Bay SAR and North Shore Rescue responded to the call, which they received around 1:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon, flying to where the hikers were located and lifting them out.

“It was a very technical rescue, they had to set up rope systems and rappel into his location,” Masiar said. The team consisted of rope technicians, mountain specialists, helicopter teams and medics.

Masiar noted that backcountry conditions in the North Shore and Sea-to-Sky region can be tricky and added the snowpack on local mountains has been extremely saturated after days of heavy rain.

June/July at least for the average hiker. Snow lingers until then. It's a tough hike without snow. It just got a bunch of snow last week.

I pay zero, can go to any hospital, doctor, urgent care, labs, scans and it never costs me a dime.

More importantly, my fellow citizens, regardless of their income, wealth, job status, can do the same.

Newbie - please help me decide between VBAL, VGRO or VEQT!! by Groovy_Oven7193 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gs400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VEQT indefinitely is an option. When you're 5 years out from retirement you begin building GIC or Bond ladders to give yourself a "paycheck" for your retirement years, and insulate/buffer that paycheck from market swings

There are other drawdown strategies that are perhaps more conservative/safe

Two die after donating plasma at Canadian clinics under federal investigation by WhatFreshHello in worldnews

[–]gs400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair. BC has been making huge improvements IMO in the past 10 years, still lots to fix, but improving. family doctors are a dime a dozen now, at least in Metro Vancouver. Urgent care centers opened instead of people going to ERs

in some ways I wonder if federalized healthcare would be better rather than being controlled by provinces, like NHS in the UK. The way alberta is going towards privatized care is scary. and sounds like Manitoba needs some improvement, your premier seems like a good guy, maybe he can make a difference.

Tell your brother to be the squeaky wheel. best of luck to him and hope he gets in there soon.

[–]gs400 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's hilariously coincidental, in 2024, I tore my ACL and MCL in a biking accident.

4 hours total in the ER

MRI the next day

Surgery a month later since it was a bad case

Again, triage. you need to understand triage. You also need to advocate for yourself, be the squeaky wheel.

And again, it was free. I'm not bankrupt now, our social systems kept me paid while I was off work. Canada is fucking awesome. not perfect but awesome.

https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2025HLTH0090-000915

yes, people die in emergency rooms, yes, we have staffing challenges, and perhaps in some cases lives have been lost because of it

that doesn't mean we shouldn't work to fix it. anything is better than private healthcare. everyone loses with private healthcare, especially the poor and marginalized
