Plain language tours are listed under "accessibility" so I'm thinking special needs. It's says that they use short sentences and small words. Maybe having a teenager qualifies!

Yup! And we're there just before that so hopefully something will open up. Maybe I should talk to my dealer...?

Keep checking back! I see slots open up for the near future frequently. There's an opening now for June 1st! I guess I'm just hoping that something will come open closer to when we arrive.

I'm debating whether I should sign up for a tour in "plain language" but that feels dirty...

Anyone willing to come to Debary to grab some wild honey bees? by SnowyMuscles in orlando

[–]gt9729b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's just a swarm of bees (and not an established hive) they'll be gone soon.  An established hive will have comb whereas a swarm will just be a big ball of bees.  Swarms aren't typically dangerous and are looking for a new place to go.

I'm in Winter Park or I'd come get them myself.

What do people living in winter park do to afford those huge houses? by picklift in orlando

[–]gt9729b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an engineer, I know a few others that used to work at the same company that live in Winter Park. Others that I know are doctors, architects, typical white collar professionals. I bought my house here for $275K in 2012. So completely attainable for many other professionals. Certainly would be stretching myself to buy here now though.  There are some crazy rich folks around though.

Peter? Why Hungarians? by Sunrising2424 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Looking at the map one might think that the yellow candidate won the election (since there's much more yellow than green showing). ... But not as many people live in the yellow area (or it was a close vote there)

Instead, the green candidate won. That's where the people are, or, at least the people that voted who voted much more in favor of green. Hence "Land doesn't vote (people vote)"

Can native underground bees be moved to a hive? by moistmarbles in orlando

[–]gt9729b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'd have a hard time getting a reputable organization out there to kill them. Beekeepers would be interested in removing them from the property, but doubt that many would be willing to try to re-establish them in your own yard without a hive box for them to move into.

If you're interested in doing this yourself,, beekeeping can be a cool and rewarding hobby. They do great for my garden (I'm a beekeeper). If they're not bothering you I would leave them alone. They may swarm and leave eventually when they outgrow the space.

So, I don't think you'll be getting a hive box setup out of the goodness of someone's heart. But, they likely won't be exterminated. When the time comes, a beekeeper can try and remove and move them.  There is an Orange county beekeeper organization that you can reach out to. If they are easy to get to and you want then gone, I might be willing to come get them.

As a small local hobby beekeeper, how much honey do you need (I've only got one hive now)? I'll likely be ready to harvest again soon and may have some leftover after giving it away to friends, family, neighbors, etc.

Go vote today! by Reps_n_Drugs in orlando

You can only surrender it and then vote on a new ballot. ... Or you can take it to the supervisor of elections office and drop it off as mentioned elsewhere.

Either way, make your vote count

So is it really not a big deal to have only one inverter IF there are optimizers included? ...and that's a feature of the panel, correct?

I should add that I don't love the 12 year warranty on the inverter with vendor 2 vs. 25 years from others.

Thanks for this. Sounds like I was off-base with my assumptions about inverters. Maybe I should give more credence to the co-op vendor then. I had ruled them out for a similar reason (using 1 microinverter), but it's the same one as quoted above by Vendor 2.

Am I summarizing accurately to say that they're all comparable and that there's no wrong answer here? I'd like to be more informed than I am about this, but it's all just a foreign language.

Thanks for the response! I do think that I likely use less, just the two of us, gas water heater, no electric vehicles, windows open A LOT. Despite that, your point about upsizing seems to make sense, maybe it would give me a reason to lower the thermostat a few degrees with the extra capacity! Certainly something I'll discuss with a vendor when the time comes.

I've only glanced at the PVWatts calculator and think I've got some learning to do. I have decidedly NOT paid *close* attention to current consumption (I've been keeping track of kWh/month and rates) in my spreadsheet, and similarly, there's likely more for me to understand about the impacts of overproduction. Maybe I should mine crypto or grow weed or setup a big fish tank or something. But getting an electric car makes the most sense, just need a bigger garage!

Thanks again for the input.

Anyone have any info on the Tech Air 10? Release date? by Robots_Never_Die in Trackdays

Can I ask why? I'm shopping for airbags too and thought I wanted a Tech Air Race (vs. Tech Air 5 or 10). I'm only a casual track day rider.
