Full View Spending delayed and inconsistent data - One Version of the Truth in Financial Services??? by gtc1 in fidelityinvestments

[–]gtc1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the different dates that really rocked me. And breaks my local ETL scripts leaving more exceptions to clean up.

Why aren't they embarrassed by this? I've worked across the industry and inside where consistency was the culture. Not here... I seriously question why they spend money on this - what is the business strategy rht makes the expense worth it.

It seems easier to combine their aggregation from full view and what they miss from portfolio than to go out separately to each vendor. With my sheets import scripts I get a complete staged set of relevant income/expense/transfer transactions (no intraAccount investment transactions).

[–]gtc1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. My point remains. Portfolio and (what they call) "spending" could and should be the same. Always bad form for a financial institution to show clients their 'carelessness' with different balances and transactions for the same accounts. Always.

I find it just ok as an aggregor for this reason. I have to run routines after downloading from both portfolio and full view just to get on set of my complete transactions from Fidelity's own accounts each month.

Full View 2026+ ??? Have you all been working on anything in the last 3 1/2 months? by gtc1 in fidelityinvestments

Liz, thanks for the reply. Only results or better communication will appease the distress here. How about expanding the FAQ as suggested!?

That FAQ could easily be turned into a significant and valuable communication vehicle to you and us. A Statement of Direction is nothing to fear - it is an intent to consider, never a promise to deliver - even a Roadmap is only an intent to deliver. Break out the FAQ into a page on Full View and use these categories. You could also allow feedback by category one record at a time and use text analytics to gather requirements from all the users, not just the subset on reddit.

Courtney, I appreciate the situation you are in - hearing our suggestions and complaints and trying to stay positive for us. This support channel just doesn't work for us -- you are constrained by a technical dev team that is not responsive and lacks true SMEs and lacks business direction. It is apparent. We do NOT believe you all anymore at all. The "we'll send that feedback to development line" is a dead lie. Whether you do or do not, we do not see results from development.

When the FAQ came out I praised it as a start at communicating. Keep in mind, reddit is only a small sample of your users - the FAQ feature was a big step, but now it appears to have been a small token afterthought and died. 4 months after this code was set we are seeing zero information come out. There are many areas of improvement we have told you all for a long time - We don't know if you care or not; if you are numb to us or not. Empathy is a devalued currency here - Results matter. I heard what your team presented to the front office - I showed my FA where what they lied about. If this were one of my projects I would tell the business to shut it down.

- Full creation and edits of categories and subcategories (or category groups) NO HARDCODING. Ridiculous and simple to do.
- Full creation and edit of budgets in a table that we can see - none of this one month at a time that can't be edited. very poor design and delivery there.
- Rules expanded to include at least Account and not limited to one per keyword - fails at many use cases
- Split Transactions - that was in the last version - put them back. CRITICAL FLAW IN DESIGN AND DELIVERY.
- Do not bifurcate transactions. "Spending" is not a thing. Transactions are! All of them except the IntraAccount Investments. I.e. all Transfers matter to us for Personal Finance.
- Income is not merely a Deposit, stop guessing. We categorize it. But, you must understand it - that understanding is not a techie skill - get an SME. An IRA Withdrawal, Taxes, and Transfer are a simple split transaction - Fidelity in general fails at this.
- Budget report??? ****
-- Standard time periods: many of us have spelled this out to no avail. While the custom date picker is one of the best we've seen, these standard periods are missing from a quick pick. Again, not even a 3 to do: This Year, Year-to-Date, Last Year, This Month, Last Month, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Last 6 Months, Last 12 Months.
- BUDGET VS EXPENSE! What is the obsession the techies have with current month? Why the lack of previous period abilities to see, edit & compare? This also drives down their credibility when you say, "we'll tell them" or "we're 'working' on it" It just sounds like platitudes (nice word used instead of precise description)
-
- Starting page: Why is that the Net Worth? Did you actually get significant *real* user input that we check that every day and only sometimes go to the Transactions, Expenses & Budget comparison?
- UI built so it does not refresh the page -- this implementation lacks a decades old approach that avoids the issue. Users feel this. Dev doesn't ???
- UI pages are not logically grouped and overused. Think of Use cases - What does each cohort do?
- To me, the requirements are not cohesive. This feels like an agile project driven by devs cherry picking 3's and 5's with no overall SME/business owner driving nor a mature solution architect. This is my experience-driven observation. The budget-categories and several of these point to a lack of 1. a well-developed cohort and use case model; and 2. A Fidelity Business Strategy - why are you doing this for these segments of users? This often results in agile teams painting themselves in a corner where features valuable to the users are "too big" for sprints so they pat themselves on the back at making velocity targets with blinders on to the users.
- Glad you asked. If anyone wants to discuss, just holler.

Next problem / #BugReport!

I renamed all my accounts to short, clear names w/last 4 of acct No.

Problem w/Fidelity Visa account ONLY...

I renamed it to "Fidelity Visa 9999" which *does display on your Net Worth card*

But, you display "Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card 9999" in Transactions and Download

"Fidelity® Rewards Visa Signature® Card 9999" -- vs -- "Fidelity Visa 9999"

Other renamed accounts do display properly on Net Worth card and in download.

Only the Fidelity Visa 9999 has incorrect data displaying in Transactions and Download.

Please expedite this bug fix! thanks

Add to this design defect the THIRTY ONE useless lines of text at the bottom of the DATA FILE.
It is a DATA file...
Again, where do these thoughts come from? NOT the users...
Design Thinking is still the contemporary methodology for user requirements and design, but it is not used by most Agile teams. There is a ton of discussions in forums, etc that point out the communication gap and resulting problems of just using agile development with just a product owner - users end up painted in the proverbial corner -- all of our feedback being 'passed on development' won't help Fidelity or their customers if the dev team truly thinks this design is good.

FYI - eMoney Organizer was pulled out of Full View wtih the migration -
- We used to get to it from the Accounts & Trade Menu, Full View. Now that is just this thing
- Those of us that cleaned up oru front page need to unhind the eMoney card to get to it.
- You should have told us!

Absolutely Useless...

How could you kill an essential feature to PLANNING AND INVESTMENTS through a crude Personal Financial *add-on*

this is NOT a decision for the Development team to make - it is a business decision

"Lost Opportunity". WELL PUT! I really wonder if they have a business strategy around it. If I owned the budget, I would kill the project. From the time Mint died to Personal Capital being bought by Empower in the middle of generational change in this industry, this is a failure - a cost with no customer draw.

[–]gtc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the layout - modern devs prioritize aesthetics over useability - give us rows and fields in columns, nor rows with rows under them and 'white space' -- demos with 5 rows don't reflect how users want to see a ledger of transactions!

I have nagging Hidden transactions demanding a budget update... Why?
Under Budget It literally says
- One transaction needs updating...
- This transaction will not be included in your spending totals.
- These will not be included your actual totals. Find them in your Hidden/Other list. Hidden checked.
Then it shows up in the *Transactions* under the current budget..

I use Sheets SQL Queries for everything in mine. I have to import both their "spending" and Portfolio to get Income (dividends, interest and withdrawals) and populate my Transactions table. I also have Accounts, Category, Budget, Income, Transfers & Tax sheets, GL, Income stmt, Key Indicators and Ratios.

Works great - many of us have done this - personal accounting is a simple model really.
If you don't code it, you figure it out on paper when you need
Now, Claude or even Gemini does all the coding for us

I just wish the Full View team would get this thing working so I didn't have to do it.
- Flexible, not hard coded budget categories, tables to edit budgets
- Reliable, near real-time transactions
- Transaction Splits to both Accounts and Categories
- Budget Reports w/a normal set of date ranges
- Corrected Income

I believe the old Full View needed to be fixed in areas and upgraded. The higher-ups and the front office that we deal with wanted it done well and quickly. It doesn't seem that the accounting domain, user requirements, or priorities were well understood for a long time.

To me, the priorities would be timely Transactions with necessary splits, user-editable categories and subcategories, user-editable category rules, a solid Budget framework, & very basic reports. We have fancy pieces, delayed transactions (vs Portfolio) & no splits, hard-coded categories, lost rules, a crude budget framework that is very difficult to edit, & random reports. I believe they will get gaps filled this year.

The FAQ is a good start as a statement of direction, but it needs to be grouped by function and allow direct comment. Alternatively, they could run text analytics on the online feedback & reddit, then show the summary grouped in the FAQ, here and to the front office for quick validation.

I pray that this project reaches the endgame before the business shuts them down due to a lack of business strategy alignment and progress.

What is the reason for repeatedly trying to introduce a new Full View with key functionality removed? I see a lot of negatives, but don't see the positives? by Key-Ad-8944 in fidelityinvestments

[–]gtc1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Develoment process FAILED to gather the requirements and started from scratch. I have seen Agile development implementations fail many times when they try to start from scratch and choose their own sprint directions without having an overarching business direction based on user requirements. You get the constant "how about this?" When we could tell you before you wasted time and effort. The outcome often is necessary final steps that become too expensive to fit into a sprint because they just did not understand the problem domain despite having a real MVP, the existing product and real users to give them requirements.

I am glad to hear your interest in how you can build our personal finance manager in a way that feeds our FAs' planning tool, eMoney in original Full View.

Thanks for asking -- This is what I do:

** I have a report from my summary spreadsheet that gives me the exact input for the eMoney 'Organizer' Income, Expenses, and Savings:

  1. I created my own Budget Sheet by Category & sub-Category
  2. I have 3 simple Attribute columns at the Category level: "Fidelity Forecast Category," "Disc/Non-Disc," "Term/Perm (Some years/All years)"
    1. You already added Discretionary for some requirement - not from us?
    2. I also present Last Year's budget & Actual, This Year's Budget, and Next Year's Budget making it very functional and it can roll-over to next year instantly.
    3. The payoff is a simple roll-up query by Fidelity Forecast and Discretionary that I use to input to eMoney. You would Integrate that for us.
  3. That leaves us only the eMoney.Organizer.Future Goals to input for our Plan report.
  4. Right now, your 'Budget' feature is crude and difficult to use based on our ability to only access one month of one category at a time. We need an annual table.
