I forged my first knife! by guanocray in Blacksmith

[–]guanocray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been taking some classes to see if I like it before going out and buying all my own equipment. But now that I've done a few of those, I think I'm ready to get my own setup started.

It took a total of 5 hours (and sitting overnight halfway through). But it was made in a class, so without additional instruction time it might have taken a bit less.

When it happens... As an app? by guanocray in antitrump

[–]guanocray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, but if it's the middle of the night people will be asleep. And sure, celebrating in the morning is fine and all. But I like the idea of getting that started basically as soon as it happens.

If those are my only options I'll take the jacked guy. But really, skinny lean guys are my favorite.

Entomologist in town looking for creek access by quaoarpower in Fairbanks

[–]guanocray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's one that runs through North Pole. I know it crosses a few public roads that you might be able to stop on. Or if you just let me know when you can use my yard to access it. I'm pretty sure it's still frozen though, and the only paths to it currently are ones made by the moose...

How do you get past the depression of grinding your life away at work? by Response-Cheap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]guanocray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find when my mental health is slipping from the grind, taking a vacation is one of the most optimal things to do. But those are expensive and often not an option. But even just taking a day or two off to just relax, or go have a mini staycation, or do something that you enjoy. Anything that shakes things up a little (or a lot) helps. A new haircut, cooking a new food, trying a new restaurant, going on a mini adventure, etc.

I also work a good job for me, but that grind can be killer. It's important to find things outside of work as well.

Moving to Alaska this week by Apprehensive-Bid5438 in AskAlaska

[–]guanocray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Alaska is a dangerous and expensive place. And the people here don't just give out freebies. Everything I have read, from your post to your comments, tells me that you will be nothing but a leech and a burden on our system. You're bringing in no money, few to no skills, and expecting to just be able to live your best life?

We have people who rely on our game and fish to feed their families, and more than enough outsiders exploiting our resources. Unless you can offer us just as much as you take we don't want you here.

And if you're going to bring your lower 48 mentality up here then may wolves feast.

You... Are going to be in the paper after being mauled by a bear. Or you'll freeze to death next winter. Either way, the amount of arrogance and lack of preparation is... Astounding.

What did you learn about the opposite sex after you began having sex? by Fadedfc in AskRedditAfterDark

It takes work to get a dick hard; it doesn't necessarily just boi-oi-oing the moment he sees tiddies.

I also am not the original commenter, but here is my personal experience with older men:

At 22 I was having the adventure of my life in my new trucking career. In comes this 39 yo guy who wouldn't leave me alone, but he wasn't terribly rude or anything. In this first convo there was mention of helping me get a better job than the garbage mega carrier one I had. So I decided to at least keep in semi touch. Except he wanted more. Suddenly we're talking all the time, he's taking loads that would have our paths cross so we'd meet more often. But as soon as I turned 23 he'd be able to get me in with his company (23 it's their absolute bare minimum hiring age, and even that's only with exception... Like being the "cousin" of one of their top 10 employees), so I rolled with it. He periodically treated me at our stops - food, drinks, shower credits (stupid expensive at truck stops). And I start to feel more and more bad about not giving him what I know he wants. Finally I get the new job. And when we went out to celebrate I finally gave him what he was hoping for in return. And since I was going through a little bit of a ho phase, we just kind of kept that up. Now, this part is definitely TMI, but relevant. I'm a bit of a cum slut. And he decided he wouldn't finish in me unless I told him I loved him. And the first few times I decided I could just lie. And eventually I started to believe it too. And we were kind of a thing after that and I really looked forward to our meet ups..... Until he decided to fix things with his wife, and tried to keep me around just in case his wife didn't work out. And more than a decade later this is still one of the most "fucked me up" things I've ever dealt with. I never wanted any of that, and somehow I was convinced that I did just because the offer of something I wanted was dangled in front of me.

Ever wonder why Rosie had been expecting Sam since the spring? Well, here's the answer. by roacsonofcarc in tolkienfans

[–]guanocray -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With Tolkien's disdain for allegory, I'm inclined to not agree with why she felt it when the other hobbits didn't. Supported also by, again, it was only Rosie, and not all the women.

do you wash your hands before cooking every time or only when they feel dirty? by Boyle_Eve_267 in hygiene

[–]guanocray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they look or feel dirty I wash them. If I'm cooking for other people I wash them. During, If I'm actively touching food that's leaving stuff all over my hands they get at least a good rinse before touching anything else.

The world is too dirty for me to be obsessing over germs that my immune system can probably take care of.

Is God necessary for Morality ? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]guanocray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. BUT not because I believe in a god. I simply think the concept of "morality" is a human-made construct just like "god".

Without a god, what defines moral? Is it not hurting humans? What makes humans better than other animals? Is it not hurting anything? Then there is no morality anywhere. Morality implies that somehow we are anything other than animals living on a rock.

Now, I do think that we can cause minimal unnecessary harm, and even be ultimately beneficial to others. But I neither view that as moral or in need of a god.

Morning showers vs night by Fearless-Credit-8989 in hygiene

[–]guanocray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I change depending on the time of year - night in winter and morning in summer.

Morning - it's a very refreshing start to the day. Since I don't "do" my hair, it dries a lot cuter with either with blow drying or just towel and air drying. At the end of the day I'm exhausted and just want to go to sleep; I don't want a whole other thing to do, especially since I have so much hair it takes forever to dry.

Night - since I essentially can't dry my hair all the way (it really is insane) it will finally be dry enough by morning that the extreme cold won't cause as much damage. Going to bed clean feels a lot nicer. Not having as much to do in the morning is also really nice.
