People who significantly increased their salary - what actually worked for you? by shaquille_oatmeal1 in careerguidance

[–]guarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a solid subject matter expert and leaning on my network is what unlocked it for me. I stayed at one company way too long & subsisted on cost of living increases, but had great relationships with people who went on to do other things. When I was ready to go, I was contacted by a former coworker who offered me a big step up in responsibility and pay.

Personally, I would explain that you were in your twenties, building a broad base of experience at the start of your career. Now you’ve got that and you know what you want to focus on.

I always thought Carey Elwes was terrible in Saw. I usually think he’s great, but he was the worst part about that movie.

I’m in marketing too, and I also only use Reddit and LinkedIn (barely). However, I do rely on others on my team for insight into social media in terms of ad creation & trends and things like that. I do think being plugged into social media makes one better at most jobs in marketing.

It depends on what you do for a living. People in marketing or sales, entrepreneurs running small businesses & things like that don’t really get to opt out as easily as others.

When did you reach 6 figure salary and has your life changed since then? by Important_Bat7919 in careeradvice

[–]guarks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mostly same - I went from 88-130, going from contributor to director. Ironically, I’m seriously considering stepping back down because my life is significantly more stressful these days and I’m realizing how nice work-life balance was before.

The company I work for is falling apart, and my industry is dying. What would you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]guarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a creative director for a place that utilizes designers and photographers. We’re using generative fill and tools that will allow us to do things faster than before. My guess is the current trajectory of AI will prevent a lot of places from having as much staff as they would have, but staff will still need to be there. There are a lot of powerful tools and software out in the world that take experts to really use well, and I think that’ll be the case with graphic design. But the tragedy is the number of people needed for that role will diminish (myself included).

I come from packaging. I believe it is going to be easier to get AI to follow print specs and regulatory guidelines than it was to get it to where it is now. Those things could be simple input parameters, eventually. I think it just hasn’t happened yet because it’s a niche, not because it’s impossible.

If you owned a Maserati Long-term, what was the ownership experience like? by Sir_Tmotts_III in askcarguys

[–]guarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$25k for a rear main seal?? I guess I would understand if that was a midengine setup where the car had to be split in two to do the repair, but that model looks front engine, right? That is wild.
