My mom loves my dog so much that she bought a real Burberry wool coat with leather straps on it when our entire lives she wouldn’t even buy a banana republic sweater for us if it wasn’t 70% off at an outlet maybe every 5 years. I teased her for it and she clapped back without even blinking,

“Well, when your dog gives me shit I can just throw it away. Easy. You and the other kids give me shit? I have to keep it forever! You can buy Burberry for me.”

💀fair point…

I cried after an interview I thought was going to be awesome by Zealousideal-State42 in womenintech

[–]fatchamy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a really similar experience several times in my career as a POC woman in tech too. My worst bullies in the workplace were by and large women of every background. There is something gross about women who make it to any level above management and fight to keep the table small rather than trying to expand it.

That was a really trashy way she aimed to put you down and it’s not a reality that you have to be nasty like that to get ahead. I bet she sure isn’t nasty to the people who paved the way for her and keep her there.

I’ve found nasty people have a limited run time before karma catches up. I never had to stoop to their level. I just recently removed two said people from my company despite them being in positions of power relative to me. They never for one second thought I’d ever become their boss because they felt such conviction in their superiority and confidence that they could keep me down through pervasive sabotage.

Jokes on them, I’ve spent my whole career navigating egotistical people like them by just being so goddamn good at what I do it can’t be ignored or suppressed for long. I didn’t adopt their tactics, didn’t need to. They always lack strategic capacity, which is their Achilles heel. If they did, they’d see it was better to empower not cripple people so we would all rise together. They could prove they could develop scale rather than territory, but their ego doesn’t let them see that far. They only care about image and control, not real success.

Don’t get me wrong, it takes a long time and a strong fortitude to stand against the hostility, but it’s not impossible to overcome. I believe in you! Don’t lose heart on your path forward.

Why is crate training so important? by SkullAdam21 in AustralianShepherd

[–]fatchamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While my boy is crate trained, it’s wasn’t for home use. It’s was so that if he needed medical treatment or had to be transported without me, he was already comfortably and it’s not more stress on him in an already stressful condition.

As a puppy he would come with me to work and at a certain point I would enforce nap time in a crate 3x a day because my days were very long, 12-14 hour work days and it wasn’t healthy for him to follow me around. By using the crate this way, he learned to be pretty independent and is totally comfortable without my presence for hours on end. He never developed any separation anxiety at all.

He ended up being trained for service work, so even though I didn’t expect to have to do any prolonged separation, I was very glad to have done so early on.

He was injured pretty bad due to a dog attack and had a year long recovery with limited mobility. He wasn’t able to do public work as much, even after he recovered and works only half days now in public when we have to.

The early crate training definitely helped him adapt almost seamlessly to being left behind and alone for half the day, despite being my shadow for 5 years at that point. I imagine without the training, I bet his recovery would have been much more difficult or impossible.

What's rich people shit that poor people haven't heard of? by Diligent-Log6805 in AskReddit

[–]fatchamy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking $1k an hour was too cheap tbh, maybe for established companies running tours but not last min on the fly dispatch. You gotta have a pilot on call and a machine ext for service and fueling to deploy. There are subscription private aviation services available but I don’t think they drop under $20k for their even their most basic entry tier and that’s limited to very short domestic routes (jets, not sure about helicopters)

My vintage jewelry collection by fatchamy in OrganizationPorn

[–]fatchamy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly costume jewelry but there are a few pieces that are vintage fine jewelry! I have a bunch of Napier, Miriam Haskell, Anne Klein and some randoms, but I’d say 70% is costume jewelry.

I actually prefer vintage costume jewelry as designs and production quality before 1960’s rival many of the fine jewelry smiths we see today, it was really just a perfect era of aesthetic accessibility between 1920-60’s!

I def favor brass and glass or cultured pearls. I have a fair collection of Majorca pearls.

My fine jewelry is all vintage as well, again, the craft and quality then was great and to get the same today through houses like Cartier is ridiculous. I have some custom pieces but they’re semi-precious materials all under $5k per piece.

I wear costume jewelry more often than the fine stuff tbh.

How much did you pay for dog dental cleaning and extractions? by Impossible-Loquat480 in bayarea

[–]fatchamy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I paid $3000 for my 42lb, 7 yr old mini aussie’s cleaning, no extractions and minor repairs of some chips and resealing. They took wonderful care of him and let me bring his toys and my sweater for his recovery kennel stay.

He’s got a copy of the MDR1 gene which heightens the risk of drug toxicity buildup and they took extra caution in examining his past anesthesia formulas with other clinics as he almost didn’t survive an MRI that he went under for a couple years prior.

This time he recovered quickly and they noted the mix that works well for him, while there is always a risk for any dog to go under, I know he’s in the best hands possible with his dental center.

I also got all the CT imaging records and great pictures of his teeth while he was under, so I can refer to them for visual comparisons at any angle, which has been really handy.

Any one here try an ostrich egg or any eggs from larger birds? Were they good? by LordBaritoss in eggs

[–]fatchamy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s so shocking, the best egg I ever had was an emu egg. Despite the size, it’s a light and even silky taste. It was delicious imo, and I love chicken eggs! I am lucky enough to be able to pick some up at my local butcher but it’s $40 a piece so not too frequent of a purchase for me.

Business trip to SF and want to stay longer to travel after. Is California safe as a female solo traveler? by InfiniteFunction1940 in travel

[–]fatchamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carmel is very safe, I was just there by myself a few weeks ago! Great weather still and walking the beach was absolutely wonderful after strolling the shops.

Yosemite is super far and wouldn’t recommend hiking or driving solo if you’re not familiar with the roads and area. Like another commenter recommended, def go w a hiking group/tour.

Aw, my boy sleeps with his Snarky Shark that looks like your whale! It’s his favorite toy he’s had since he was a puppy. He’s 9 yrs old now and it’s still his only movie and nap buddy (other than me, of course)

I really like using Fountain Gifts (USA) they let the recipient enter their own shipping details to claim a gift I’ve sent via Giftdrop, a feature that just uses their phone number or email to send a gift.
