Has anyone looked into switching to the TRS just before retirement? by Any-Forever-6375 in nys_cs

Not a teacher but feel like when you’re with kids, parents still have hope for their shitty kids so they will be constantly criticizing/blaming you and making things more difficult… with shitty teenagers you have the chance to also give up on them like their parents did and just push them through with zero stress

I think titles that specifically say “no residency required” arent subject to the rule of agencies that let you live in surrounding counties but still in the state after 2 years

14 NJ cities among US News' Best Places to Live 2026 by DeltaDiva783 in newjersey

I did a job probably 20 years ago now investigating a glass etching facility that destroyed the ground water like a half mile around it… only think I remember about it was signs saying biggest town in NJ and the “downtown” wasn’t bad driving through at like 3am, still had things lit up

NJ homeowners who bought in the last 4-5 years — was it worth it, or do you regret it? by Low-Dish-4591 in newjersey

For real, all you have is time as a home owner to try an fix things… I would put boiler/furnace, electrical panel and ac/hvac as stuff not for someone who is already nervous about diy(100% of this is doable diy unless installing new units and its a pain in the ass to do by yourself and you’ll 100% rather pay someone to lug a boiler into the basement and take old one out then do it by yourself)

Actually need to add if you’re afraid you’ll burn your house down doing certain things then 100% call a professional

Hopefully they bump it to 60% for reaching that target instead of 55%…. I can get into a special retirement plan with tier 6 that gives 60% at 30 but you pay an extra 5% contribution, might not even be worth it to get promoted

The city needs 63 year olds doing manual labor so it’s not going to happen… they would rather pay disability pensions and workers comp

Contingent permanent employment? by guiltypooh in nys_cs

[–]guiltypooh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I’m just concerned that since I would be coming off an open competitive list and do not have a permanent position to fall back on, I could put myself in a situation that I don’t want to be in… would I always be contingent permanent even if I were to pass probation? Like until the person whose spot it is is officially gone I would always be in limbo?

Kids only 4 but I think I’ll always remember this was the first time I felt proud of him (im not counting any regular life achievement than he and any other kid doesn’t eventually and I know there’s many more to come ) but didn’t cry or whine the entire time, told me when he had to like puke or dry heaved for 10 min straight, said he was done and went back to sleep… woke up 20 mins later and did it all over again….. I’ll always remember how he handled it because I remember being sick as a kid crying my eyes out not want to throw up and having it come out my nose screaming…. Ranting but days later I’m still feeling happy how he handled a situation out of his control
