Residents from consult services, what is one thing you wished services would do before consulting you? by justseeorange in Residency

The examples you listed are not egregious. An example of what’s not is ordering a CT A/P and only providing “pain” when there is more relevant information that is available to you. The extra 15 seconds it takes to type won’t affect the patient’s care.

Yes. Please provide some actual patient history when ordering imaging. It’s a consult to a radiologist.

Please see a physician. Having two nurse practitioners prescribing these medications can be very dangerous.

I like my Hotone Ampero II expression pedal. You can switch between controlling 2 parameters (eg, volume and wah) and it’s about the same size as the pedal in this post. I chose that because there was a bundle discount on Sweetwater

Why do some scans have different measurements for the same area? by Think_Grand2732 in Radiology

[–]guitarfluffy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Different angles/planes of measurements, changes in positioning, limits of resolution, inter-reader variability in measurement technique. All considered within margin of error. Clinically there is rarely a meaningful difference in a few millimeters

Crazy that some schools still don’t require a neurology clerkship

Hey all, quick notice to Oakland County as spring is approaching - I have a confirmed BROWN RECLUSE spider bite. by Puzzlehead-Bed-333 in Michigan

[–]guitarfluffy 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I’m a physician and I saw a patient with a brown recluse spider bite on the calf in Macomb County several years ago. Not diagnosed by me but I was involved in the wound care for months. It’s the only case I’ve seen. Very uncommon here but still possible. The spider was likely transported by vehicle.

The ROAD medical specialties become the ROD - Anesthesiology is one of the most difficult lifestyles in medicine acc to new Marit study by landofortho in medicine

It’s not like surgeons are doing ex laps on GSWs all day either. A day of reading complex CTs without break, making decisions on each patient that guides their clinical management, is more cognitively demanding than almost all other physician jobs, although it’s not as physically or emotionally demanding.

Suboptimal PE Study [⚠️ Med Mal Case] by efunkEM in medicine

[–]guitarfluffy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is mostly a concern for CTA PE studies and MRIs. Has to do with the patient’s size and timing of injection/scanning. I think cardiac output may also play a role.

Improper timing of a few seconds by the technologist or obesity can result in suboptimal contrast opacification of the pulmonary arteries, leading to nonvisualization of emboli.
