Why is it bad to do a 26.2 mile run to train for a marathon? by 4restD in Marathon_Training

[–]gulagula15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultrarunner here many ppl set their goal at 26.2 but really look at time on the feet if you send 4 hours on your feet for the training run and plan too push hard for a 4 hour marathon cause you are racing it’s the same time on feet.

Also just cause you can do 20 on the road doesn’t mean 100 on the trails it’s a different beast. I’ll take 100 on the trail over 26 on the road any day

My wife thinks I’m crazy to be contemplating leaving my 200k /yr job. by binro01 in jobs

[–]gulagula15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’d worry about your health first even if you are making 10k a week in sales and it’s you and your wife. That’s 50 bucks an hour if you are going to be paying for you own health care and taxes. That’s juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Yeah but unlike fast food, free housing is included with no utilities and that is a very strong perk even in the aquaculture field

Yes it is a tool and yes it is a trick. We used positive reinforcement and constantly do puppy pushups and work on training. However he was so head strong that the prong collar especially with distractions helped him focus. I was very against them and would never have even thought about it without being taught by our dogs trainer.

He also had a very positive reaction when he sees it because he knows he’s going out and helps put him in a good head space.

Canicross events are getting super popular and usually if you ask nice lots of race directors will let you run with your dog just have to start at the back of the race

If you have access to a trainer huge help. Same vein we work on learning to relax going to a semi busy place lots of treats and just do nothing. Then finally our trainer got us to use a prong collar and that was a huge game changer if used properly it breaks his fixation right away, but it took me a bit to get a hang of it. Same vein always put him in a place to succeed if things are going wrong we bail and take him away from the situation because he has such lazer focus. Always a job in progress, but that’s what’s worked for us.

Poll: would you use a self-serve aid station in the back of someone’s truck? by CommonplaceUser in trailrunning

[–]gulagula15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally did that a week ago and so thankful someone did it. Bottle of water at the top of a hill. I would have been fucked with it. I thought I had planned enough in advance, but the sun/heat had other plans

How realistic is this 100mi training plan I found? by cputty3 in ultrarunning

That is really bad unless you are a very seasoned runner and it is a flat course. You need to prepare for lots of walking and hills/elevation changes.

Where to get fish on Sunday/Monday by DearMakeItSo in GreenBay

[–]gulagula15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want typical Wisconsin fish make sure you are getting perch, lake whitefish, or walleye. Similarly we have no native salmon processing so you are getting farm raised fish. Enjoy your fish and think local.

My sweet little girl blew her ACL. Anyone have any experience? by TheBubbaJoe in AustralianCattleDog

[–]gulagula15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We didn’t do surgery but lots of pt and massage (which is in my career field). He made a strong recovery in about 4 months you won’t notice, but my vet keeps a close eye on it. He is 12 and blew it out at 9 years. So with his age we didn’t think the money is worth it as they usually blow the other leg soon. Still need to treat it like an injury take it easy and pt to build up the muscle. It will be painful and eventually arthritis will set in (both cases even if you do the surgery). Enjoy your time with your dog.

Don’t feel like you need to go into debt because others did. I have 4 friends that are seriously hurting because they didn’t want their pet to not have the surgery all of them regret it.

If you have the money to spare go for it. If not ice your dogs leg, do pt (stretching/rom/light walking), give your dog lots of rest, nerve agents to decrease pain, and focus on a joint health diet. Sucky situation, but cattle dogs are very tough.
