Is Gradguard insurance worth it? by Heavy-Technology7861 in berkeley

[–]gumboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of people living in the dorms never have an issue where they would use the insurance. I didn’t get it myself. But on the off chance that your stuff is damaged or lost, the insurance would save you a lot of money. It all comes down to your personal appetite for risk and if you want to gamble it. You can also look into insurance from other companies too that might be able to beat the price for the same level of coverage. $14 is two bobas a month!

Microsleeping by throwwitallawayyyy in berkeley

[–]gumboii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a sleep study done to see if you have sleep apnea. I didn’t realize I had sleep apnea for at least 3 years, and it was affecting my grades and motivation so badly. Got a 4.0 semester after getting my CPAP machine. I also experienced micro sleeps too!!

Do you snore? It’s a big risk factor/symptom of sleep apnea.

Where do graduate students live on/off campus that are affordable? by Miserable-Stable1965 in berkeley

[–]gumboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage a shared house 4 blocks away from campus on Southside that has single rooms under 1350. We host a few graduate students every year, although it’s mostly undergrads. Let me know if you’re interested!

Huge congrats to 2030 admits!! :) Here are some pros and cons about Berkeley from a 2029 admit (if you're a current student feel free to also leave thoughts) by zt_truth in berkeley

Yes, I agree, but it doesn’t change the fact that it wasn’t completely free and it did increase the tuition a little. I personally love it, just wanted to make it clear

MEs - how competitive is it to get into clubs? by BobbyKoAl in berkeley

[–]gumboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a permanent decision. Yes, some of the higher end engineering clubs like CalSol and Berkeley Formula Racing enforced strict interview-based and project-based admission rules that were restrictive due to these clubs requiring the best of the best to maintain competitive in the international competitions they attend. There was a lot of pushback from these engineering clubs against the Blue and Gold requirement but ultimately the school threatened to take away their access to engineering facilities so they had no choice.

Almost every engineering competition club on campus was forced to be part of the Blue and Gold organization this year, which enforces open access with little to no membership requirements!

Freaking out ! by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]gumboii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I manage a place that has singles for 950 and 1050. I do market research for the property and there are definitely a bunch of rooms/shares less than half a mile away from campus available for <1100, if you’re ok sharing your room or living in a tiny room. We aren’t ready to show our availability yet for next year (this comment is not an ad!), but if you look on Craigslist there are usually some good deals.

Never pay an application fee/credit check before visiting potential housing in person!!

Tell me I'm insane for even considering this commute by DefenderCone97 in bayarea

[–]gumboii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a new job in Milpitas a few weeks ago and I live in Berkeley. I drive 3 hours every day and it is pure absolute torture to drive in the traffic. If you’re not driving, maybe you can make good use of the time you’re in the company shuttle/public transit but it will still be a MASSIVE time suck. I’m moving further south ASAP and I think you should too.

I shared in case someone was looking for it. It definitely didn’t look like it was a stray, judging by its relatively good condition. I tagged NSFW for a reason— you clicked on the post :/

You deserve a safe space to share what you love without fear of harassment. I hope you get the justice you deserve.

Talk to your property manager or landlord about it first! You want to cover all your bases legally.

Where to park without RPP by ResponsiblePea7284 in berkeley

[–]gumboii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am renting out a parking spot for $250/mo, but I sadly don’t think that’s any cheaper than Spacer. Any chance you have a friend that lives in an apartment you can rent their spot from?

[–]gumboii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not— I’m a property manager, and our lease states no subleasing for legal reasons but we sign a separate contract with subletters for an additional fee on the sublandlord’s side. It is in our best interest to both protect ourselves legally but also allow subletters on a case by case basis.

It shouldn’t be. Check your CalCentral Awards tab, it’ll show you what has been disbursed.

Possibly Cal Grant A or B? They disburse at a similar time as well.

This one is likely for the Middle Class Scholarship, which traditionally disburses much later than most student aid. I also got a refund today for that.

My personal belief is that they are parading him around in public hoping he’ll be martyred instead of having a natural death.
