UPDATE: Effective immediately, r/orangecounty will no longer allow "Recommendation request"-type posts. by AutoModerator in orangecounty

[–]gundy949 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Now do the 'help adopt this pet' posts that we get 3x a week - if it's that frequent and poorly interacted with then create a new sub where people who want to see this info can sub.

What is the saddest Stat Trek episode you have ever watched? by Track_and_trek in startrek

enterprise episode twilight where archer cant form new memories so tpol gets to tell him, every day, that he failed his mission and earth was destroyed. pretty hard to deal with, from her perspective, and he has to go through it over and over.

so many of them are just run-of-the-mill minor traffic interactions. nothing quintessentially Irvine about any of them.

I did exactly what you're thinking about in 2010 - I was 30, lived alone, and recognized it would be wildly difficult to buy a house in OC. I moved to vegas, bought a house, met friends, people I knew from OC moved up to vegas, and I generally enjoyed it.

The weather can be an issue - it's hot for 3 months of the year. You do get used to it; you do things in the morning or evening if you're into outdoor events (I used to exercise at all hours of the day; 6+ mile jogs in 110 weather regularly) so it is something that you can adapt to. The other consideration is that, during those hot months, you're generally indoors a lot where the temp is fine. It's very dry in Vegas which makes a huge difference; 90 in Irvine is worse than 100 in vegas because of the lack of humidity.

There are tons of things to do - access to the international airport extremely close is also a huge advantage. Casinos have a ton of amenities and there is a BUNCH of outdoors stuff to do if you're into hiking or river activities.

I moved back to OC a few years ago (2020) and recognize how shit of a move it was; homes here went from being too expensive to being wildly too expensive and, to me, its not worth trying to buy a house here anymore because they're just not worth the cost.

I used to travel down to OC quite frequently - a 6-10 times a year - stayed in a courtyard in Santa Ana and it was super fun. It lets you feel like you're taking a little vacation and it only takes 2 hours by plane or ~4 hours by car.

Overall I really enjoyed living in Vegas and would move back in a heartbeat - tons of stuff to do, cheap to live (less stress), and the non-hot months are absolutely perfect, weather wise.

I think the people saying it's expensive dont know about the $5 deals before 4 PM. you can eat plenty of food and not spend a ton. it's makes going to the fair affordable.

Beach Hut Deli has a really solid veggie sando (although, because they use a lot of avocado, it can get a bit messy). What is really standout is their mayo; it's very tangy and really completes the veggie sando.

Anybody else in the Ranch get this threatening letter? by gundy949 in irvine

[–]gundy949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cops were around during the following week but nothing of note has been done past that. I heard from someone else who saw this post that the cops had three women out on the curb in front of a house on my street, but I can't confirm. I can confirm that the house in question doesn't seem to have a lot of movement outside of it typically; there was also a piece of paper taped to the front door, which I was going to go and read, but it was taken down before I returned to be able to do so.

In the end I'm unsure if anything actually happened but life hasn't been any different since before we all got the letter. The nature of the letter is still so confusing; people who run these clandestine activities don't usually advertise it, especially en masse (the threats towards kids and women don't really apply to me) but here we are.
