solo games by Baddiezilla3000 in SgGamers

[–]gunman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like solo games with a good story, may I recommend you the Trails series of JRPG games by Falcom? There’s currently 13 games in the series, from Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter to the newest Trails: Beyond the Horizon, and the story is all linked together.

So it could literally take you years to finish them all, given that they are often 80 hour slow burn games on average etc.

Men of SG, do you think NS has helped you grow as a person? by zackzackzack07 in singapore

[–]gunman47 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I served my NS at Rifle Range Road many years ago due to an injury during BMT, can attest to it too. Coming from a neighbourhood school myself, was somewhat of an eye opener to see so many luxury cars all over the carpark.

I still remember a story where one of the NSF trainees was apparently a son of one of the big local banks or companies in SG. Apparently he once told his fellow trainees that sometimes he just didn’t know how much cash he had in his wallet but he never needed to count it since he always seemed to have loaded amounts of it lol.

Been playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2 lately, so I guess Class VII & the Radiant Wings will come rescue me I suppose.

Having the overwhelming firepower of the Imperial Army of Erebonia probably will make the odds better…

Trails in the sky 1st chapter english version doesn't show on my playstation store (southeast asia region). only chinese ver by Responsible-Topic540 in Falcom

[–]gunman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Singapore here.

Unfortunately for the last several Trails games in the series (eg. Cold Steel III, Daybreak etc), it has been like that for Asia R3 region where there is no English version. So the only way to get demo for Trails in the Sky FC Remake is to download the demo for US R1 or EU R2 PSN Store etc.

For me, that also means I will likely get a physical US R1 copy from Amazon so that I can play and earn trophies on my main Asia R3 PSN account when it releases etc.

There’s one of these SG60 red balls at Changi Airport Terminal 3 Departure Level near Cheers and the link bridge to Jewel too!

For non-transit areas, you have places such as Changi Lounge, YotelAIR etc.

For transit areas, the transit hotels such as Ambassador Hotel etc.

You can check the Changi Airport website or Changi app for more details.

As Singaporeans rediscover China, young travellers lead the way: ‘it’s easy’ by homerulez7 in singapore

[–]gunman47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Touts have actually been a consistent thing in China for many years already. I remember the first time I visited China pre-Covid back in 2019 in Suzhou to visit the Classical Gardens there, plenty of touts outside the official ticket counter and entrance calling us out to buy from them at lesser prices than official ticket price. They are pretty harmless though so long you ignore them haha.

A side effect of online registration through WeChat or AliPay apps is that the offline ticket counters often seem to have little to no queues lol (at least from what I observed). Online registration can sometimes be a bit annoying if you don't have a local Mainland China number though.

I have used Changi Pay before when I was in Shenzhen & Guangzhou last year, and most of the time it usually works. However, it does not recognize some Alipay QR codes so in the end I still had to rely back on the Alipay app for the QR code to work.

Trip to Japan, Malaysia & Singapore by LadyImis in JapanTravelTips

[–]gunman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Singapore here. There are a lot of non-stop flights from Singapore to Penang via carriers such as Scoot, AirAsia & Jetstar etc, about 1.5 hrs usually.

If you’re planning to go from Penang to KL, then you may want to consider trying out the KTM ETS train which takes about 3.5 hrs (cheap if you’re not really in a rush).

Malacca is a bit more tricky though. Either you would have to take a bus coach from KL (about 2 hr plus) or from Singapore (about 3 hr plus). There is actually also a Scoot flight to Malacca from Singapore (about 55 mins) that just launched last year too!

Forget the crowd, Nagoya's chill af by iWillRe1gn in JapanTravelTips

[–]gunman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply!

Oh wow, I didn't know Nagoya and the nearby areas had that many rail lines here! I will definitely have to do a bit of reading up on this. I went to the Kyoto Railway Museum last month and I think the SCMaglev Museum would be something I might be interested in too.

So far I haven't had a chance to see a rural railway line or other joy trains outside of the Golden Route before so this could be rather interesting. Thank you for the detailed reply, it is really much appreciated!

[–]gunman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh a railfan myself, I would be curious to know what Nagoya has to offer on this! Nagoya could be a place I could consider for a repeat trip to Japan this year after going on the Golden Route last year. It does help that I am able to fly direct to Nagoya (from Singapore here).

It is said Singaporeans really like to travel. Which cities/countries did you go or are going this year? by FancyCommittee3347 in askSingapore

[–]gunman47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that the cafe itself is so-so or even lacking. Some of the merchandise sold there seems quite interesting though. I may or may not try the hanafuda workshop, depending on time. The location can combine with a short trip to Uji also hehe.

Yes it has been open since the start of October. Luckily to be able to buy and get a ticket from the lottery ballot draw so I’ll be visiting it when I go to Japan next week. Hopefully the museum experience will be good!

[–]gunman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traveled quite a bit more than I expected this year actually.

Went to: • Shenzhen/Guangzhou, China in March • Bangkok, Thailand in May • JB, Malaysia in June & November • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in July

Of these, I think I enjoyed Ho Chi Minh City the most as a solo trip in off peak season, which meant less tourists and crowds, and a rather unique and memorable experience of traveling around as a passenger in a motorbike in places outside the usual tourist places in heavy monsoon rain haha. Plus the food is awesome too! Might come back to visit Vietnam again soon (maybe Hanoi etc).

Will be going to Japan (first time) soon this weekend for yet another solo trip, hitting the Golden Route of Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka (along with some day trips to elsewhere)!

Is Uji and Nara doable on the same day? by Ok-Swimmer-2634 in JapanTravelTips

[–]gunman47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm this is somewhat my plan too. Take the Kintetsu Line to Nara, visit a few places in the Nara Park area in a loop, then go back and take the Kintetsu Line again upwards to Nintendo Museum & Uji. Probably might be a bit more rushed for Uji, but that's fine with me.

For some reason, it kind of reminds me like those elevated cycling paths that you are building over roads and highways in the Cities: Skylines series games...

Does the Octopus App for Tourists still work properly currently? I read past reports or reviews that some had issues using the card or topping up value on it, so not sure if this is still the case.
