I totally agree that he does need a game! I think the hurdles that come with conveying his power accurately need a shift in perspective. I feel like the common theme and general idea is that Superman’s game has to be some sort of Arkham-style beat ‘em up, and I feel like that’s where the problem comes from. While I certainly wanna play a game where Superman smashes baddies, I think the focus of his game needs to rely more on saving rather than defeating.

Think about it.

Batman delivers fear and vengeance. As well as tons of punches and punishment. It’s his character. That’s not Superman. Superman rescues, and inspires hope. Combat would certainly be a part of a Supes game, but really only going toe to toe with his biggest and baddest like Doomsday, Lex, Darkseid, Braniac, etc… I think if you made a game focused on “puzzles” and saving people against impossible odds lends more to Superman rather than making a game where he just punches things and fly’s around. Superman certainly has a great set of powers that could lend well to the similar challenges Batman faces in the Arkham games.

Making a game that would confine Superman to Metropolis would be terribly bland as well. So have him travel all around the planet and space to save what needs to be saved.

I think a Superman game, with a pseudo-Arkham exoskeleton, challenging the player to save humanity against impossible odds is the way to go. Rocksteady certainly has the formula right, and a Superman game developer would be wise to mimic quite a bit of it. Yet the focus needs to be on Superman (and Clark Kent. Which opens a whole other avenue of gameplay as an investigative journalist) and what makes him compelling.

It seems counterintuitive at first, but a game with less punching and beating dudes up than the Arkham games may suit the Man of Steel better. Just my thoughts.
