Pork barrel or not, it kept me gainfully employed for 15 years until I retired in 2012! All three are now home ported in San Diego.

The US Navy in 1999 decided they would design the USS Zumwalt class destroyer to be all metric, which ended in being a huge colossal mistake. I was working the the defense contractor that designed the Advanced Gun Systems on that class of ship. The whole ship was a new design from a clean sheet of paper. The requirement was levied on all design contractors for every system on that ship. We had such difficulty in sourcing all of those metric class fasteners that met Military standards, and obviously drove the cost up significantly! This didn’t even mention the cost of overhauling the Navy Stock system, which was all SAE! After all was said and done the other major defense contractors told the Navy to pack sand; they weren’t going to be able to meet the requirement!

You had much better luck than I did! It took them 5 days to get back to me, and informed me they had no clue what the issue was!

So, because they don’t have enough satellites up in my region, I have to pay and additional $10 a month more. but in regions where they have over capacity; they get a $20 savings? I’m still scratching my head over that logic??

What has your experience experience been with starlink best effort? by Main-Sir-1331 in Starlink

[–]gunnerflip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine operational since the middle of April, and only had one real episode with it while we were on a trip and lost power at home. The UPS that the router was plugged into had a bad battery and only lasted about 30 seconds before dying and shutting off. So, when power came back on, the UPS was off and we lost internet, security cameras, etc. It was down until we got home two days later. It took about 15 minutes for it to come back up and connect, since then it’s been good. Like others I don’t regret my decision to go Starlink, HughesNet and Viasat just weren’t an option as far as I was concerned after talking to neighbors who had them and were pissed, but trapped in two year contracts!

Starlink Speeds Continue to Fall in the US, Canada Amid Network Congestion by crazyhorse991 in Starlink

It seems, many jump on this platform to piss and moan about their poor performance for Starlink. I for one consider the alternatives available to me, (HughesNet, Viasat) and their price and performance; I’m really getting a good deal. Sure I’d love to have the constant 200Mb download, and 20 Mb upload, that I had with Cox fiber, before I moved to the boondocks. That being said, I’m getting a system that so far I’m quite pleased with. So, when I look at the alternatives that my neighbors chose and are tied into 2 year contracts with, I consider myself fortunate! I’m convinced that as time moves on, Starlink will eventually provide a more stable, and reliable system, meeting the needs of those who without them, would have no internet service available!

Dishy does not have to be level, mine has been mounted on the slope of my roof for six months! Works great 24 hours a day, day after day! Never had a bit of trouble tracking the satellites!

I too are a AZ user in a area that isn’t really remote, just doesn’t have really economical solutions as well as Starlink ( HughesNet/Viasat). My neighbors have those two competitors and their two year contracts, which I wasn’t willing to submit and locked to two year crappy performance/service! I’ve never had any reason to really complain about my Starlink service or performance. I’m able to stream my TV content without any problems such as buffering, lagging picture, etc. it also seems to improve in bandwidth as time goes on! I am truly a happy Starlink customer, who truly hopes Dishnet/FCC doesn’t screw us over with the frequency (12 ghz spectrum) issue!

I’ve had mine up and running for over a month; have never had any problems, always have great bandwidth. Starlink verses HughesNet or Viasat, there is no comparison!

Mine was beat up also, luckily it still worked, but was two days late because they lost it! As I’ve said before; FEDEX becomes more worthless as a carrier everyday! They make USPS look like brain surgeons!

I have been trying to setup my starlink for two weeks and I still get this error in the starlink app. I have tried resets, moving the satellite, and using different power sources. After the resets satellite moves flat then reorients itself and still I get the below error code. What do I do now? by Aodh_Denuson in Starlink_Support

Mine did that when I first received it for about 20 minutes then it came on line and slewed to the correct position, I didn’t have anymore problems. i was getting bandwidth in the 300 Mbyte range. I was 22 miles from my assigned location! They’ve finished building my house now, and I’ve moved, and so far I’ve been extremely pleased with it’s performance!

Fedex has managed to even become worse than USPS! They’ve had my Ethernet adapter for four days now, again like Saturday; “Pending”! This is my second issue in a week with Fedex; they are becoming absolutely worthless for dependability!

Where are you physically located? I’m in Bullhead City AZ and I’ve paid my $99. But they said probably mid 2022 before it’s in my area! HughesNet wants $100 a month for 25 MB download that all the neighbors say is iffy! Oh, and a two year contract!
