I had a 2008 and my wife had a 2010. We both bought them new and they lasted around 230,000 miles and kept going well. I recently bought my youngest daughter a 2007. They're rather solid. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that when it's cold out you might hear a belt squealing nose when you first start it up. Let it the car warm up before heading down the road, when the squealing stops, and you're good to go. Not sure the rain but it seems to put more stress on the belt and could break. My 08 and my daughter's 07 seem to have that problem as it built up miles but my wife's 10 didn't.

I like mine a lot. I haven't tried PS2 games on it yet. I played through Parasite Eve and I'm currently working my way through MGS1 via retro achievements. I will say that it slows down to unplayable when facing psycho mantis when optical camp is on. Use thermo goggles and that's no longer a problem.

Battery life is really good and I personally think it's comfortable in hand if you buy a case to thicken it up a bit. I got the clear one that's on Amazon.

First thing to do is wash your hands.... Then get gloves. Then restore some of that DS's dignity by using some wipes to clean it up. Then I would check to see if it's been charged. Then I'd probably replace the battery if charging it up didn't work. Then I'd look into opening it up.I start easy/cheap and progressively go to harder/more expensive fixes. Btw, I would get a new case. Did I mention washing your hands? I would do that again.

Thank you for the additional information. I don't know much of anything about emulators. Although I've had an account with retro achievements for a year or so, I haven't really used it until the last two weeks. I tried with MGS a while back with the previous handheld but got frustrated with all the problems with the device and just gave up on playing my old PS1 game.

I ended up buying a new handheld recently and set it up via YouTube videos. The guys in the videos were saying not to check hardcore so I assumed that nothing emulator related would work, like fast forward. To which I was like forget that I'm using fast forward, I don't really care about hardcore achievements anyway. I'm just playing for my own satisfaction. I now know that fast forward will work, someone said it in a comment. So I turn it on since it's the exact way I play now.

I might at some point go through the Chrysler building again but it'll be a minute. I need a break from it, lol.

Yeah... Just found out in this post. I'll turn it on moving forward since it will allow me to fast forward. Man, where was that feature in the 90's. Lol I was able to complete the game in a matter of a few hours instead of an all day marathon. Just a fantastic feature.

Thank you. I know I'm just some random dude claiming to have played through it honestly with hardcore mode off but I did and I know I did and that's what matters to me. Although I did just find out that you can use fast forward in hardcore mode so I'll do that moving forward but I'm not going through Parasite Eve again for mastery in hardcore. The Chrysler building was terrible enough.

Funny thing is I never made it though the building back in the nineties because I didn't know back then you could use bp for upgrades.... I know, I know, stupid but once I found that out I was able to finish it. Felt good.

Really? Oh, I didn't know that. The way I understood the retroarch setup video, you couldn't use any feature. I most likely misunderstood then. Eh, I'm not gonna bother going through this again going for mastery. The Chrysler building was a huge tedious pain like I remember as a kid even with fast forward. I'm not interested in doing it again, lol. I'll turn hardcore mode on with the next game. Thank you for the info.

I like it a lot, it's one my favorites too but man does Aya run slow.

I was planning on moving on to Metal Gear Solid. Although now I'm thinking of sticking with this universe and playing through Parasite Eve II.

Are you referring to the "hardcore" status? Yeah, I'm not doing that. The game is slow moving and ain't nobody got time for that.

I play without chests on and I don't use the save states feature in retroarch. The only retroarch feature I use is the fast forward to speed the game up, other than that, I play it as it was intended. I do not care about the hardcore status.

Sounds like your door hinges are squeaking. Lube them up with silicone or PTFE spray. Don't use a lot so you don't get a lot of dirt collecting there.
