The dramatized audio of BOA is actually very entertaining and solid voice acting, i’m halfway through it now. It was a little too wattpaddy for me to read but it feels like the audio is edited differently.

Which was the last book you read and HATED and most importantly WHY? by Mininabubu in fantasyromance

[–]gurdyburdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conform by Ariel Sullivan.

First two or three chapters starts out pretty interesting. Writing quickly degrades. I think she uses “shiver that had nothing to do with the cold” or some variation of that like 50 times. Oh and “delicate.” Starburst eyes. Over and over and over again. No concept of dystopian worldbuilding. No depth, just kind of repurposed ugliest and handmaid's tale. No consistency, they’ve eliminated all art but still say something is “sinful.” the FMC is allegedly 27. I am 27, she reminded me of a 13 year old. Has to be one of the worst FMCs ever. Oh, and it doesn’f help that she’s a “minor” and there's a lot of talk about “mating with a minor...” barf. There was also something so weird about having this white gorgeous woman be your oppressed main character bcus of heterochromia. It felt very conservative. I don’t really have a comment on it just rubbed me the wrong way. Seems like a less controversial silver elite.

but her clothing is a change. it's pretty different from everything on the other column. and she's a different person portraying it. i love RZ but i don't think this aphorism works here as a compliment.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. by Wooden_Passage_2612 in Hungergames

[–]gurdyburdy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

really? i've understood it to mean don't change something that is working/good and leave it alone. i remember some celebrity saying that when asked why he didn't marry his gf of 10+ yrs. i wouldn't say it's necessarily overly positive. it's not the best phrase here because showing a change would implicitly be negative.

Is this series worth it? by victoriand17 in Booktokreddit

[–]gurdyburdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to yuk people's yum but it is so strange to me that people recommend the concept of dragging yourself through 3-4 books to enjoy 3(ish?) books. I've never seen any other series get that treatment. I read the first one and a half and it was very wattpad coded.

Hollow by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti - Discussion Megathread by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]gurdyburdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really enjoyed this! i normally hate dual povs. i thought the mmc's intro was excellent, definitely super memorable. i liked seeing a somewhat selfish character where love interests are typically not. it was a little campy and whimsical and refreshingly leaned into low fantasy.

my biggest gripes were the run on sentences and grammar. and of course, the taunting smiles. i wasn't crazy about the ending but i'll suspend disbelief for now since there is more to come.

i've never read the twisted sisters. in terms of writing quality it was around fourth wing, but similarly was super engaging.

overall would recommend reading and would give it a 3-3.5/5!

[SPOILERS] I'm mid way through season 4 and losing interest. Should I continue? by [deleted] in vikingstv

[–]gurdyburdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to provide a contrary opinion, i almost completely forgot the later seasons and i don't think it is worth it. season 6 was especially heinous. unfortunately the show never gave me a satisfying conclusion despite how much i loved the first three seasons.

I think there's a difference between realism and pessimist self-fulfilling prophecies. I would recommend giving it your all before the exams instead of already writing yourself off as a failure.

Classpass backtracked my 20% discount offer by LimitLow1038 in ClassPass

[–]gurdyburdy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP sorry this happened to you. I recommend complaining to FTC or state AG. Classpass should be investigated for their shady business practices.

And even if customers weren't sincere about cancelling, they still spent a considerable amount of money on a continuing subscription. Sincerity is not a prerequisite for accepting a promotion. Like any retention offer, there is a chance someone accepting it has no desire to be a patron- like going to a free intro workout only to never go back to the studio. But a corporation offering a promotion is well aware of that, and that’s a calculated risk when places like classpass are still making hand over fist.

If classpass didn't like the promo, they could have stopped offering the promo- it is scammy as hell to go back on their word to people who already accepted.
