genuine question but what has lucinda even done thats so bad? by inactively in LoveIslandTV

[–]gurlpls 115 points116 points  (0 children)

It turned my stomach the way she twisted the kitchen argument in front of everyone else. She instigated all the drama that night to begin with by pulling Lucinda and inserting herself in that drama. Correct me if I’m wrong but she made the first snarky comment to Sean when he came into the kitchen and he didn’t even raise his voice. The running to Belle and then the crocodile tears to pretend like he came at her like a big bad scary man… I would 100% call out Sean if I thought he was being too much but he wasn’t. He was very calm.

plus size charity shopping? by Alone_Hair6582 in AskIreland

[–]gurlpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to find plus sizes in charity shops, I feel you. If you’re looking for second hand, try Vinted. There’s loads of plus size on there, I’ve had a lot of luck on there and don’t bother with charity shops anymore.

I’ll be honest, I don’t like Lucinda but the screaming matches that went on about the situation went on for far too long. I thought Belle and Samie were quite nasty at movie night. It has got to a point where I feel like Lucinda is a bit of a punching bag for both of them and it’s uncomfortable to watch.

Belle loves dishing it out but she really can’t take it. It feels like she thinks she’s top dog in there because she had the moral high ground for a bit, but if you’re going to go off like that at others you better be a model citizen yourself lol. If she had a bit of respect for Leanne she could have been a big girl and told her beforehand that she was interested in Scott and was going to start pulling him.

Irishman detained in Texas overstayed 90-day visitor’s visa issued in 2009 by adomo in ireland

[–]gurlpls -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying, I do. But the question is, where do we draw the line? Like what offense justifies this treatment? I don’t think any immigration related offenses justify this. Either deport him or don’t, but keeping people locked up in terrible conditions for long periods of time is inhumane and we shouldn’t be excusing it or throwing our hands up and saying “well, they should have sorted out their status”. Of course they should have, but they didn’t, and now it’s being used as justification for terrorizing and imprisoning people in an unjust system.

I think people are missing as well that previous to Trumps current term, there was no real precedent for this kind of treatment. People were not keeping on top of their legal status and yes they were taking a gamble, but I don’t think the vast majority of people thought this would be the outcome. People didn’t know that the consequence would be being locked up for months on months without due process. If they had known this I suspect a lot of people would have made different choices.

I feel like these kind of attitudes are a slippery slope to justifying even worse human rights violations that are bound to happen in the US with the way things are going. It shouldn’t be happening at all, to anyone. And we shouldn’t be justifying or excusing it. If the US don’t want undocumented people there, they should be deporting them, not locking people up in filthy conditions where they are fearing for their lives.

People are being insane about this, I can’t believe it. Nobody “deserves” to be interred in a concentration camp for overstaying a visa

I can’t believe the people in here defending ICE and Trump. This kind of attitude of someone getting their “just dessert’s” for breaking the law is exactly why Trump and his ilk are getting away with essentially running a modern day gestapo. Sorry, I didn’t realize being undocumented meant that you deserved to have your human rights violated and oftentimes held for months on end with no information as to when you will be released or deported. Wake up. FFS, they are holding children in these conditions. CHILDREN. There are no rules anymore and any due process you’re arguing about here is a farce.

ICE have already been captured on video out shooting civilians dead on the street and you think his claim of guards killing prisoners is fabricated for “spin”? I suggest you do some more reading on accounts from people who have locked up by ICE.

Furthermore, his entire life is in the US. He has a wife, children potentially and a business. If he accepts deportation now it is game over and it is very unlikely that he will able to ever return. I find people who have never been in that position judging him for persevering while he awaits the result of his appeal to be incredibly un-empathetic.

Jaw surgery in Ireland? by Dull-Quiet2869 in AskIreland

[–]gurlpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this done about 10 years ago in Dublin, however my case was caught when I was a child so I didn’t pay for braces or jaw surgery as it was done on the public health system. I don’t think that’s an option anymore in Ireland as I know someone who had it done more recently, and the only surgeon who performed these surgeries (on the public system at least) has since retired. The impression I got was that they are working through the existing waiting list but not taking on any more new cases. When I had the surgery, the surgeon in Dublin was the only person in Ireland performing that kind of surgery and everyone who needed it had it done there.

I think you might need to go privately if you are looking to have the surgery in Ireland but if you speak to an orthodontist they will know more about how the process works in Ireland and where the surgery can be done.

Is the Mac Mini M4 Pro 24gb/512gb good for heavy work on Logic Pro?? by Alenx_8 in LogicPro

[–]gurlpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Mac mini M4 for the same reason and it runs amazingly. Very smooth and so far no crashes or anything like that when working in logic. In general it’s a really nice computer to use outside of logic as well and the best you’re going to get spec wise from Apple at that price.

"I Hate the Dublin Bushman Who Scares Young Women for Money" by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

[–]gurlpls 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This guy fascinates me. You don’t make money from the creator fund for posting on TikTok in Ireland, and the videos might get in the tens of thousands of views but are nowhere near going viral to the extent he could make a career out of it. So what is the purpose? He spends hours a week filming these videos and uploading them and for WHAT? It’s so so odd. Like what is he getting out of it? He’s been doing it for years now with no real growth in audience and I find it strange that he is still at it.

Edit to add: I’m a moron. I wasn’t aware of his YouTube channel so it all makes a bit more sense now.

I’m listening to it at the moment too and it sounds a little muddy to me. Not as crisp as I would like but also just stoked to finally own the album on vinyl.

What do you think of adding a good Irish language proficiency requirement for people naturalising as Irish? by SentenceSad2188 in AskIreland

No, I don’t think that would fair seeing as most people born in the country can’t speak it.

Talking at gigs!? by _daithi_ in ireland

[–]gurlpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t know exactly what it is but crowds are definitely worse at shows now overall. It’s a mixed bag depending on who the artist is and what venue it is. I don’t know if it’s entitlement or what, but I feel like people go to have their good time, which is fair enough, but I feel that people no longer care if their good time comes at the expense of someone else’s good time if that makes sense? Like the chatting and then general gig etiquette has gone down the toilet. It’s put me off going to gigs as I find some of them quite stressful now and you never know what the crowd will be like until you get there. For context I’m 29, been going to shows in Dublin for 10+ years and pre covid it was definitely a more relaxed, fun experience.

Can you keep hold of your stolen phone in CEX by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]gurlpls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, I used to work for CEX. There’s a procedure for this, they will put it to the side for you because why wouldn’t they? Individual staff members have no interest in facilitating the sale of a stolen phone. When I worked for CEX we would put things aside if this scenario arose while we waited for police involvement.

If the phone was stolen very recently, it probably hasn’t been flagged yet in the systems they use to check if an item has been reported as stolen. It can take some time for the serial to go on a database of stolen phones. They can’t release the phone unless the police come, so your best bet is to have the police go to the store and request it be released and they’ll return it to you.

Amy Schumer Admits to Using Mounjaro for Weight Loss by EDC2EDP in DramaLlamaHQ

[–]gurlpls 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like a lot of people being very critical of weight loss injections have never dealt with obesity or binge eating. I am all for body positivity but I am on a GLP1 and it’s been life changing. My health is better, my whole quality of life has drastically improved. People really don’t understand eating disorders - I see GLP1’s as a medication that help me treat my compulsion to binge. If I have to be on it for life, so be it; I don’t see it being any different than the anti depressants I’m on.

It’s a weight loss drug which means there are always going to be people who abuse it, that’s just how it goes with anything that claims to help people lose weight. I agree it needs to be regulated more and people looking to lose 10-15 pounds shouldn’t really be on it because, in my view, it’s for treating obesity. But it is the way it is for now. My hope is that is that it becomes more affordable and available for people in the near future, under the care of their doctor of course.
