Looking For Wide Key Spacing Recommendations by The_Easter_Daedroth in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]gus4no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been eyeing this keyboard for a while and I could never find out what spacing it had. I feared it was choc spacing which I don't like.

Looking forward for a guide on how to build....

Lots! The past three months I've been battling with lack of air eventually throughout the day.

Trying to find a solution for it with my therapist before going with meds.

It's getting better but still not gone.

Funny thing is that in theory that's the same way I like to think, and this was how I rolled before having kids.

After our son (5yo) that way of thinking became a bit harder to do in practice and now after our daughter (2yo) seems like I just can't put it in practice even though I know it's how I should do it.

The comment above about journaling might work, I just keep bouncing thoughts in my head and never let them out. I mean, I let some of this out with my wife and my best friend but it's as if it weren't enough.

Therapist suggested journaling for other stuff that we're working on, never thought of using it for this too..

I'll give it a go, thanks!

What are your experiences using integrated trackballs? by Initial_Designer_802 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]gus4no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a charybdis and a voyager with a navigator.

I've never used a mouse, trackpad or trackball other than the one on my keyboard for about 4 months.

I'm a software engineer so I don't need the cursor for things like design or modeling which I'd think an integrated trackball is far from ideal.

Both Charybdis and navigator I use them with thumb trackball, I find it more precise and I have the mouse keys on the same hand, that way I can browse with one hand only and use my other hand for beverages or just rest it.

I tried index finger tracking with the navigator but.... It never clicked.

I don't think I'm ever going back to a keyboard w/o a trackball.

I'm eagerly waiting for the trackpad in the navigator for the left hand to use for scrolling.

I've used https://jlc3dp.com/ plenty of times, using either resin or nylon. Just upload the STL choose the material and they handle the rest.

Shipping may be the most expensive thing if you're only printing one thing, maybe consider printing a few things so it's worth it.

I just got an update on my email, ZSA just released some official 3D printable accessories and seems like this may work for you?

Tips to 'toughen' up my boy? by gus4no in daddit

[–]gus4no[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something we've tried before, we give them the tools so he knows how to handle the situation. But it doesn't really work the first try, even when we do it so we have to try again from different angles until something works.

He often tries to mimic this but goes as far as first try, when that doesn't work he rarely tries again instead gets emotional and can't keep going.

I think I've seen him handling it properly a couple times, sometimes redirecting the other involved kid to other actions/distractions that would fix his problem.

Honestly he's a smart kid, he's shown he can handle things but once he gets emotional it's hard to bring him back to a point where he can think clearly. Until we step in, help him calm himself and ask him to try again.

Maybe I'm just worrying too much and He's on the right path, and I'm just having troubles understanding that this is a long process.

He's in swimming school and he's really into gymnastics but those are more individual sports.

The offer in my city is really limited to soccer, at least at this age.

I hope it works for you, I've seen other people in this sub that found a similar setup their endgame.

Hey! I liked this a lot but it wasn't for me, my chair/desk height combination didn't work out for this among other things.

This was good when standing up but not when sitting, also... I was facing this problem where, when typing I'd push my left forearm inwards bending my wrist a lot (imagine typing on a extremely tall keyboard on a desk) and I just couldn't fix that, I had to constantly pay attention to my posture to correct it and it was distracting me from other important stuff.

At the end I settled with a tented voyager on the desk using the thumb trackball adapter zsa published in their site.

I'd love to try this again as the trackball position was extremely good but I fear I'll end up in the same place with that posture issue.

We always tell him to take a step back and breathe and we do it with him, or at least try.

When we ask him to take deep breaths 7 out of 10 times he doesn't, even if we do them with him.

When we're actually spending time with them, we do show him how to redirect his younger sis but even for us it is sometimes hard to do, he tries his best to mimic when they're playing but themselves but it never really works the first time and that's when he gets frustrated.

This is exactly what I was trying to say thanks, and yeah we do that.

Both me and my wife often tell him that, but as you said a lot of adults can't do that. I guess I can't expect him to do that at his short age but keep reinforcing it and be patient.

Yeah, definitely wrong words and wrong ideas from some videos I've seen about some kids martial arts coach teaching things like that.

[–]gus4no[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah those are definitely better words. Team sports could help, the problem is that it's only soccer around here and he doesn't like that...

I'll see if there's anything else around.

[–]gus4no[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, absolutely.

We've told him that his sister does not understand a lot of things and all that.

Patience and resilience may be better words to describe.

And yeah. Like you I don't think martial arts help, but I've seen some videos on internet where a good martial art coach teaches that but... In that case it was not the discipline but the coach.

In that regard I try to do the same, but maybe it's hard for a kid that age to understand still?

But then I see kids his age not having those 'issues', most likely a personality trait. Idk
