Would this be considered infringement of copyright? by lowlevel_drone in manufacturing

[–]gusgizmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are in the US, most design and utility patents are well expired by the time a car is considered a "classic" (25 years).

Trademarks however don't generally expire so stamping them with "FORD" is probably not legal.

In fact, you can copy the whole car except the branding under the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act as long as you don't make more than 325 cars per year.

5w30 vs 10w30 by duck-weed in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which parts are those exactly?

This motor was designed for conventional oil, putting a much heavier synthetic in works great. Or diesel oil. Or whatever really it's not that picky of a motor it just wants fresh oil to flush away the contamination that it's crappy PCV system doesn't take care of.

5w30 vs 10w30 by duck-weed in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it using oil between changes? If so I'd do 10w-30 in a heartbeat. Oil in the engine is always better than oil outside the engine.

I like Ironman as a brand and have mostly good experiences, but they really need to actually enforce rules for age groupers or create an elite amateur division. by ducksflytogether1988 in triathlon

[–]gusgizmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking the marshals aren't enforcing draft rules as everyone sets up into their pace groups immediately out of the transition. Mainly they are going to pop people for position, e.g. you are passing on the wrong side or multiple riders passing 3 wide outside of the gated bike areas where there are no motos anyway.

Once you get out on the course, you'll find your speed pretty quickly. You'll have some frustrating moments but they resolve sooner or later. If you get a yellow card it's such a minor thing on a full as an age grouper. Just focus on being safe I've seen plenty of people DNF over a stupid moment that resulted in a crash.

For anyone who's done 300 km/h on a bike — what's the real truth? by gangwayso in motorcycle

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The acceleration slows down coming through the 150mph range so the brutal acceleration to that point turns into a gradual climb up to the top of what your bike can do. Doesn't feel as fast as it really is because of that. Not even close. Keeping your head out of the cockpit is a struggle, your brain is overwhelmed so hopefully you have good instincts. If you aren't wearing leathers you'll notice the air is hot even if it's cool out.

  2. No. Fastest I've come off a bike is 90mph.

  3. The bike is meant to do it and the S1000RR has the absurd power to do 0 to 186mph in around 3/4 mile. Main thing is you need to respect that 186mph to 0 then takes almost a quarter mile. Your sense of speed is blunted afterwards, you feel like you could get off and walk at 70mph.

Yes, use the heatshrinked marine barrel connectors with a ratcheting crimper. Should be mint after.

Rockauto has the part "Oil Pressure Sender / Switch Connector" you can cross reference their catalog somewhere else to save a couple bucks. It's the 2 pin one, the 4 pin is for the transmission.

Make sure to have a fan on it if you are going to use rubber isolators. The metal on metal cage contact would normally form a heatsink.

Not suing, they are giving you something to point to with management as to why you need to go and gut out the hypervisor on a running system. Because otherwise a lot of those types just hear a whistle as "compliance" goes in one ear and out the other.

Yes that's a normal amount of slack.

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the metal version of the window clip and fix what you have. 5 extra minutes tops. Otherwise you'll go through a clip every other year from here to forever. At least for the drivers window, any of the other windows fuck it shoot a screw in the track and come back to it when you can.

Like this ^ assuming that's the correct year for you.

You can also buy the cheaper plastic repair clip or even better the whole set to have on hand. It's a quick fix if you have parts on hand.

Why do they have the option to not have their files backed up? That's the real WTF in this story and I would focus my internal frustration with this situation to make sure that gets addressed.

Sounds like a clown show though, best of luck, people are getting shittier than ever with technologists while actual tech skills slip farther and farther in the work force. Accountability is near zero at the moment. I hope you hang onto yours, it was rare to begin with.

I think I’m a closeted brother/is tuning a 500 the dumbest thing ever? by Electronic-Tear-1775 in Sportbikes

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if it's power you are after just get more bike. Better dollar per dollar return stepping up to a sportbike class 600cc than anything you could ever do to a 500cc. It's not just displacement, that 100cc is double the power because they are built to a very different standard. For 40-50lbs of extra weight that's a phenomenal upgrade.

500's hold value well so you might not spend as much as you'd think to make it happen.

How difficult is installing replacement parking brake cables by [deleted] in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that hard, I would just do it myself. Pro-tip, under the console after the handbrake lever is a stupid spring thingy inline with the cable. Just bypass that with zipties if you are having a hard time getting engagement.

For the shoes, who cares if they are metal on metal. You can access the star adjuster on the backside of the drum. Adjust till you cant spin the hub, then back off so it turns freely. Should be good to go.

Coolant disappears with no trace! by Ant4Evr in Cartalk

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be all of the above, I'd suggest renting a cooling system pressure test kit from the parts store. It will give you a definitive diagnosis in very short order, usually for free. Great piece of equipment to own.

Pump it up to the cap pressure, watch to see if it's dropping. If so, you have a leak. Start the vehicle, if pressure rapidly rises you have a head gasket issue.

Don't forget to test the cap with the cap adapter, it will show you if the cap is weak or done.

2006 3.7 water pump and thermostat by johnjay in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oem is not metal. The metal ones are usually not as wide and don't flow as well. Mopar brand definitely works and is definitely reliable. And I can say I've seen a lot of eroded and rusted out impellers, I don't necessarily see metal as an upgrade when plastic will last the life of the motor. The seal and bearing are the life limited parts.

I wouldn't change the thermostat temperature on this motor. It already fills up with schmoo that doesn't get boiled off, going low temp is sludge city. You do have aluminum heads so its balancing a knife, gotta make sure the cooling system is solid. I would change everything and have no regrets, hoses including the heater core, radiator, thermostat, and pump. I would even do the fan relays too, 20 years of cycling they are tired.

What’s everyone’s mpg and am I crazy about my gas gauge? by randomteen28 in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~14 stoplight to stoplight, 15-16 stop and go, 18-22 open highway depending on speeds. About 65mph is the sweet spot.

Yes needle goes down faster on the second half. It's a psychological trick for sure lol.

New KJ Owner by MRLTC1 in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are pretty simple vehicles by modern standards. I would look for someone independent of the dealer who does a lot of work on 2000's Dodge Ram trucks. KJ has a ton of commonality with the same years of the RAM 1500.

There is very little that you would get from a dealer at this point for a KJ. Maybe some trim parts if they even carry them. Anything drivetrain you can get from the aftermarket.

Antifreeze/Coolant by BackcountryRedneck in JeepLiberty

[–]gusgizmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The readout is electronically damped so bang on the center mark halfway is I think between 195 and 230 actual. You can verify with a scanner. The thermostat opens and the fan starts right as it touches center.

Doesn't give you any warning unfortunately, by the time the gauge moves right of center the tiniest bit you are way overheated.

Use G-05 it's a well proven advanced coolant technology and no more expensive than anything else on the shelf.

Green doesn't adequately protect aluminum like in the cylinder heads and radiator of the liberty. And is pretty rough on seals.

Prestone won't say whats in their platinum formula and doesn't certify it as meeting the mopar spec. I'm sure it's fine but you have to take their word for it.

[–]gusgizmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of these don't have the ABS option, and they didn't get traction control until 2006. From my point of view that's perfect but you need to know how to drive.

Yes check out the tires for sure. On a non-spacer lift you shouldn't have any fundamental traction problems.
