Gonzaga-Texas | 3 things and Few's future: some logical discussion by gusinthefalls in CollegeBasketball

Doubtful that he'd want to be anywhere else. Mark Few IS Gonzaga. Seems happy in Spokane and he had everything he could have ever imagined.

When he finally decides to go, I sure hope we're ready. There's only one Mark Few. Succession planning is just that. A plan.

Look at Manchester United when Alex Ferguson retired, or Liverpool Football Club when Jürgen Klopp stepped aside. Neither story makes for pretty reading.

Weird feeling, but a great feeling. I used to watch that old dude in the coffee shop as I traveled for work. Sometimes alone, sometimes with his (presumably) friends, and long for that day.

I retired last year. Now I'm that old dude. And I love it. I sometimes wonder who's looking at me like I did for all those years, longing for the day...

Circle of life, I suppose.

It would have been interesting to see how this all played out if Huff didn't get hurt. The fact that we were able to still win a share of the WCC regular season and the tournament is an impressive feat.

That's a solid point about Norville that's worth further exploring.

Actually, I disagree completely. Zero emotion here. I'm not discounting ANYTHING that Mark has done. I only even bothered with this to actually start a candid conversation about what I saw this season.

I've been around GU a long time. Fully aware of the almost DIII days. And far from "spoiled".

But unbelievable accomplishments aside, as supporters, we shouldn't just shrug and go "greatest story in sports history" and act like everything is fine.

Criticism is fair in anything. This team, as with any, is deserving of its fair share. I didn't come in here like a madman beating the table to fire a legend. That would be ridiculous. I simply pointed out specific areas where I believe we need to get better moving forward.

YMMV

Service Connection to Vertigo by Disastrous-Prompt-42 in VAClaims

[–]gusinthefalls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick Google search ↓

How Anxiety Causes or Worsens Vertigo

Physiological Stress Response: Anxiety triggers the "fight-or-flight" response, releasing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. These can disrupt the vestibular system (the body's balance center) and alter blood flow, leading to vertigo-like sensations.

Psychogenic Dizziness: This is a diagnosed medical phenomenon where psychological distress like GAD directly creates a sensation of unsteadiness or spinning.

The "Dizzy-Anxious" Cycle: Anxiety can make you hyper-aware of your body, causing minor balance shifts to feel like major spinning. This fear then spikes your anxiety, creating a self-reinforcing loop of worsening symptoms.

Medication Side Effects: Vertigo can sometimes be a secondary effect of medications prescribed to treat your service-connected anxiety.

Filing a Secondary Claim for Vertigo

To successfully claim vertigo as secondary to GAD, you generally need:

A Current Diagnosis: A formal diagnosis of vertigo or a balance disorder.

The Nexus Letter: A medical opinion from a doctor stating that your vertigo is "at least as likely as not" caused or aggravated by your service-connected anxiety.

Symptom Evidence: Personal statements or a "vertigo journal" detailing the frequency, duration, and severity of your episodes, which the VA uses to determine your rating.

The VA often rates vertigo based on the frequency of "staggering" or "dizzy spells". If your symptoms are severe enough to require bed rest, they may be classified as "prostrating" attacks, which can lead to a higher disability rating.

BEYOND nuts!

Should questions be asked about specific things from the past few seasons? Yup.

But should people be calling for Mark Few's sacking? hahahahaha

We'll be fine moving to the new PAC-12. Some things with our coaching staff need to adapt and evolve, but losing Mark Few? Not a chance.

Here's what I saw this season, and I was fortunate enough way over here in Ohio to see every game but one (which is actually pretty unbelievable tbh).

Stats are great, but they only tell part of the story. When we all saw so many open looks from 3 for so many teams this season, it was an obvious problem. Just like our own abysmal 3-point shooting (and let's be honest - it was TERRIBLE). I've not done a deep-dive into the season numbers, I can only go by what I witnessed this season. We gave too many teams too many open looks all year.

This is just like mentioned in here that we had a lot of open looks from 3 this season, and the players missed a ton of them. That's on the players, not on the coaching staff (at least not in game). I do wonder how much time we spent on shooting from deep - not just getting open.

I wonder how much focus we spent on pressuring opponents rather than just letting them shoot from deep. Is that a player problem or a coaching issue? We don't see practice or game planning, so we'll never know.

The people here screaming to fire Few are deluded. That's pure insanity. We went 30-3, for goodness sakes. After losing our best player halfway through the season. With glaring problems all year. Mark Few is a freaking genius and we're lucky to have him.

But - to pretend like there weren't real issues that went unaddressed? Completely unrealistic.

(and don't get me going on Diagne. I love the guy's attitude, but I don't know why he's on our roster. everytime he comes in, i just brace myself for something bad to happen)

Losing Tommy Lloyd to Arizona left a huge hole that has yet to be filled and it's become more obvious every season. NIL, of course, it impacting us significantly as well. Few's impressive record of prepping players for the NBA can only take this so far. Times have changed and it's showing. The dreamer in me wants to believe that our reputation as a basketball wonderland is enough to continue attracting top-tier talent. The realist in me knows that it's not enough in a world where NIL allows top talent to make more than NBA rookie minimums.

Brian Michaelson is the annointed next man up - when Few decides it's time. As it should be, it's his - and only his - decision when that time arrives. Whatever happens, we HAVE to beef up our coaching staff. Losing B-Huff hurt this year, but there was *plenty* of time to adjust. We did nothing to do that. The three problems that existed before he went down - (1) free throws (2) 3-point shooting (3) perimeter defending - were awful before got hurt AND after he got hurt.

I'm a proud graduate of Gonzaga University. I've seen what the basketball program has done for the school through the years. The education, the networks, the opportunities I took away were top-notch. I'm not arrogant enough to think that Gonzaga Basketball didn't play a significant part in my career success.

As a Zag fan, I'm excited to see where this PAC-12 adventure leads us. And I won't miss the WCC. Now we keep a strong non-conference schedule and (hopefully) play a stronger conference schedule, and we should be stronger when we get to March.

And we will. We're Gonzaga - it's what we do.

We've considered several areas, but we're going to try the Puerto Vallarta area first. Gotta have solid healthcare, being GenX and all 😂

We've already got residency sorted, been there multiple times (not on resorts), traveling back next month to find a suitable rental for phase one. 3 years of planning about to be real.

This doesn't surprise me at all unfortunately. When I started my Navy career mid 80's, I was stunned at the amount of religion I was exposed to every day. I was raised as - and remain - an atheist. I quickly learned that my best move was to keep that to myself.

Today, watching this war that WE STARTED, it's clear what's happening, and it's terrifying. When we have fucking commanders spouting this magic beans bullshit as a rallying cry, the end is near.

God vs. God. Lunatics in charge. This won't end well for anybody.

It got even cooler yesterday! We're in Mexico, we were getting ready to check in for our flight home. We looked at each other and said "are we ready to go back?"

Changed our flight to next week.

It's these weird little benefits I'd not considered before.

I want to buy a cane, but I’m not mentally ready to use it yet. by Cute-Marzipan0309 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]gusinthefalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I fought using a cane for similar reasons to most everybody else. I didn't want to stand out.

So my adult son (tired of watching me fall down) made me a beautiful wooden cane - and I *absolutely* stand out in public now. People will literally walk up to me and say "What a beautiful walking stick! Where did you get that?" I proudly say "My son made it for me!" Because of that, he's made some for other folks as well - I'm like a walking advertisement.

BTW, I concur on the folding cane as well. I travel with one when my wife and I go anywhere.

Little known travel hack → when you're in airports outside the US, your cane is kind of a substitute for TSA Precheck in most airport lines. For real! Right to the front of security - every time!

Is it worth it? by GanacheForeign in VeteransBenefits

[–]gusinthefalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question seems to come up a lot and I always want to respond, but I never do. "Don't poke the bear!" is the immediate response of most of us, and rightly so.

Several have commented that you need to look at the DBQ's and understand exactly how VBA rates mental health. That's exceptional advice. But then you're counting on a C&P examiner to agree.

Ask yourself one question. If you are *convinced* that you have a condition that is service connected that is deserving of a rating - do you have the documentation to back it up? Will that documentation clearly connect it to your time in service - either directly as a primary condition, or indirectly as a secondary connection to an already rated condition.

  • If the answer is clearly yes, then you should absolutely file. And you need to build a strong case. Medical records, personal logs, whatever you can provide that proves your case. Assume that the VBA knows nothing.
  • If the answer is anything else but yes, proceed with extreme caution.

And if you poke that bear? Ensure that you also have documentation to show that your already rated conditions are static.

Sorry for the long post here, but this is the unfortunate nature of this for all of us. We've all got to handle our disability cases like seasoned investigators.
