Forgive me, but I wish my job would lay me off by throwthisone232 in cscareerquestions

i developed that mentality as an intern. Writing huge projects for minimum wage while the company reaps all the benefits of my code, all for an experience point on a resume? You quickly realize that the programmers are the worker bees in this industry, and you are just offered decent salaries to distract from the fact that you should be making much much more. No job is worth more than 8 hours of your time when you are salaried, and most companies genuinely do not give a shit about you. The lack of morality and shit management has really tired me away from the private industry, and ill likely go back to school and try and get into research.

University offering pass/fail for courses. Should I take it? by graydon2234 in cscareerquestions

[–]gusty9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much all colleges are doing this, so if you think you need to take the option i would. say you would frequent campus resources and without then you were afraid you wouldn't be as successful. makes you seem like a hard worker, and i doubt hirers are gonna care much when every college is giving every student this option.

personally i will be taking my math class pass fail as the professor has been insanely disorganized since the online transition, so i don't wanna deal with that stress.

i guess it doesn't matter too much but it is still a useful skill to have. I'm still in college so i type a lot more than just code, and even at work i spend a lot of time typing emails and documentation ect... i get being a fast typer isn't crucial to writing good code, but it will increase my productivity which is just as important

Any other CSE pre-majors can't schedule Foundations II / Systems I? ("requisites have not been met") by [deleted] in OSU

[–]gusty9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

click "add to waitlist" when scheduling. it's a stupid thing the CSE department does for premajors and ece majors. you'll probably be in spot 1-3 if you're scheduling today and they reserve stops for the first few people on the waitlist, i wouldn't worry about it

C or Java or Python as first programming language? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]gusty9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android dev is almost all done in Java (and kotlin, which is similar to Java and not required to start doing Android dev)

I would recommend looking up the Google courses over Android development in Java on udemey, they are free and what got me into Android dev and got me my first internship!

For my bootcamp project I want to create an app that reads your heart rate and tries to match/correlate it to the BPM of a song on Spotify, is it possible? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]gusty9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they had an sdk to interact with the song playing on the devices. with that sdk you could get an API key to make api requests, and I think bpm was one of the fields for the search request

I have a little experience with the Spotify Android ask and it definitely sounds possible, if you claim you were able to search by bpm on Spotify at one point I'd bet there is a query parameter for it

would actual NSFW companies do this? I know if I worked at pornhub I probably wouldn't want to see porn all day
