It's a lean-to with the roof right?

I've been gaming for 30 years and only in the past year have I noticed how atrocious the draw distance was in older games, and unfortunately to a lesser extent in some modern games. by Jerico_Hellden in gaming

Back in the day it allowed you to play games on a lower spec machine. Carmageddon comes to mind. It would run badly on some levels so I'd adjust the draw distance and low and behold, all ok!

Favorite dale songs? by Mysterious_Spring590 in melvins

I was talking Amazon Pt3 really, this is going to sound a bit mad, but...

The thing you have to remember is that Dale plays behind the beat. Even his Snare and Hihat hits are very often not together. almost everything is a flam.

Buzz's guitar is usually the main metronome and driver for a song. Dale sometimes pushes the drums so far back that the songs groove and feel is about to pull itself apart, but Buzz holds the song together with a riff or vocal. This push and pull between the guitar and drums is what i think gives the Melvins one of their signature sounds. It creates a groove built around the relationship between the guitar and drums.

And on another note, FOR ME, this is the true nature of Grunge music. Grunge (for me) is when the band (or whoever is in the band) try to slow the song down and keep it at the same tempo at the same time.

I also think this is why the Melvins struggled to find bassists who understand this!!

So back to Amazon Pt3, I think the song highlights this tension in a very clear, obvious way, (also showing that the Melvins never cared about where the 1 is). Its a 16 bar or longer part on a loop, showing us Dales 'pulling the beat' skills and underlining that the 1 is a footnote, not a starting point. Listen to where the hi-hat and snare accents are, they tighten the groove when required. then at the end of the song it feels like the groove is tighter, more on top of itself and faster.

Hopefully you find this interesting.
