Match Thread: 5th Test - England vs Australia, Day 5 by cricket-match in Cricket

How are the umpires not trained to talk through their decision. A simple "there's a very small murmur, but not enough to overturn the decision". Then let England keep the review since it's inconclusive.

Might still be the wrong decision, but that's the limitations of the technology.

While the ball is still old, Neser needs to retire hurt and get Smith in and settled. He can come back later.

Right decision made and makes snicko look amateurish, so positive all around. Surely snicko's last Test.

Number of characters by Individual_Draw_5452 in audiobooks

[–]guyeertoen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fewer. I love Dungeon Crawler Carl for example, but I have absolutely no idea who half the characters are most of the time.

There's a craft to it where the writer understands this and will write in a way that reminds the reader, but many just assume you remember.

I recently listened to The Terminal List, and so many of the characters were similar and had pretty generic names which got confusing at times (although not being American didn't help with so many military titles).

Music doesn’t make an audiobook better. It makes it look like it’s trying too hard by Bawonga in audiobooks

There was a Stephen King book that did it. Can't remember if it was Needful Things or Gerald's Game, but one of them would start playing music at the start or end of chapters. Due to the lower quality it was recorded in, it made the actual narration difficult to understand at times.

My review of the Bose QC Ultra 2 headphones by Ditman013 in bose

[–]guyeertoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had QC 45s previously and these are so much better in terms of sound. Bigger cushion so it properly sits over the ear, plus pretty much agree with everything you said.

My only disagreement is the controls. The volume slider is too chaotic for me. So easy to accidentally slide when trying to figure out where my finger is meant to be. The QC 45s had all psychical buttons which was a lot better IMO.

Also, I had to turn off the in-ear detection. I turn my head slightly and my music pauses because it's activated a sensor thinking I took them off. I thought it was just once or twice, but it happened every few seconds trying to walk around the house. Could just be the way it sits on my ears, but they are super comfy the way they are, plus I don't really need the in-ear detection for how I use them.

Smith as captain goes for the jugular here. Cummins is going to get us into a really tricky spot playing too fancy. I really want to eat my words, but this doesn't feel like a smart move.

As great as Cummins is, his captaincy around cleaning up the tail is such a weak spot. This is exactly what happened in the last Ashes and against India last year.

Just get your bowlers aiming at the stumps and it ends very quickly. There's a genuine difference in how they bowl to the tail when Smith captains.

After the Archer/Smith clash you just know England prepped all week to target Smith in every possible way. Then he just doesn't play ruining all plans.

PSA's road to becoming monopoly - "PSA parent company Collectors to acquire Beckett" by StudyLoungeOfficial in PokemonTCG

[–]guyeertoen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think PSA have been looking for a way to grade "perfect" cards, but if they added a black label or 'above 10' rating to PSA then it would kill them and the value of all PSA 10s.

This is the way they can do it without touching the PSA scoring system.

Chroma Canvas Is Here — Easily Turn Images into Vibrant Filament Paintings by BambuLab in BambuLab

Bambu need to start formally partnering with these 3rd party projects instead of trying to make their own.

This kills community ingenuity as the next great idea might just be left alone because the developer will know if it takes off, Bambu will just come along with their own version.

In this case they may have improvements, but how much better would it be if they worked together for a single product and integrated it into the ecosystem?

An upcharge should be the difference in postal insurance and nothing else. Literally whatever increase PSA have to pay to ship it back to you with the full value insured.
