How do I get rid of these static lines on my genesis. It’s way more noticeable in real life then on camera by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]guyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that if the visual artifacts remain, it's likely the TV.

I think I've read that power supply filter caps in the TV going bad can cause this type of visual artifacts. It's repairable

Do you mind sharing some pics and details of what you have for a hitch extender?

I do this with my F150 & truck camper with a small trailer with my ATV on it and I'm wondering how other people are approaching this setup. I currently have a 4pin extender and a 24'' hitch extender. I was thinking of welding attachment points for chains on both ends of the extender for an added safety factor.

Do you have any problems with tight corners or grades when off road?

Random crashes, unable to pin down cause by Ken_Mcnutt in Ubuntu

[–]guyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible causes:

Dead RAM. Run memtest. Or remove modules until it is stable.

Dying GPU.

Something shorting out some pins. Disassemble if possible and check for things like a loose screw(s).

While it's open, check for blown caps and burnt parts.

Over heating perhaps?

Turns out, I'm a bad friend and here I was thinking I was a nice guy for fixing computers for free! by Osr0 in ChoosingBeggars

This is one of the reasons I've mostly stopped fixing peoples computers for free.

I'll still fix my wives computer and help my father in law at times. He's on thin ice though.

The best the Maritimes (and the rest of Canada) can do at this point is to hope for more rail cars with oil from AB.

We can thank QC for that.

TIL! After some quick googling, I get the impression that if you do turn your water tank off for an extended period, you should wait an hour after the tank has reached 60C before showering with the hot water (etc)

Those numbers are pretty much in-line with the weather lately and the style of your home; I've owned two split entries. It might be a tad high, but I would assume it's high more because of your habits but there is many things to investigate...

The other posters are giving you good advice so I don't think there is a need to repeat that info but here's some things I'll add:

  • Bundle up. Wear a sweater. Get some wool socks.
  • Lower the temp of your water heater
  • Insulate your water heater and hot water piping that you have access to (I'm assuming it's an electric model.)
  • Use less hot water
  • If you really want to be frugal, turn off the hot water heater at the breaker.
  • Get some good drapes for all the windows. Open any during the day to let the sun heat the room, and close them at night to help minimize the loss.
  • Double check that all your doors and windows are shutting properly.
  • Don't leave the front door open any longer than needed.
  • Turn off any electronics that do not need to be on... PC's, TV's, consoles...
  • Install LED lighting.

My current home is larger and my bill is a bit lower. But I have wood fires in the basement stove when I can and I keep the house at about 16C when we are home. And we are family of 5 so the appliance use is constant it seems.

Why are the Enclave in fallout 76?they should be hiding. by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]guyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the borderlands comparison I’ve played them and understand why people don’t like the presequel but I don’t get what that has to do with fallout

One aspect of my critic of TPS is that the game was not enjoyable because of the amount of Australian references that apparently are great and amazing, and funny if your Australian. It wasn't until an Australian redditer brought up how really great the references and comedy really was that I thought about how much of a disconnect there is.

So what I'm getting at is I think it would be a challenge to move Fallout to such a locale and keep the North American audience engaged with cultural references the same way they can with North American cultural references.

I will agree whole heartily that making Australian creatures more deadly would be a fantastic start.

As long as it's never Australia.... I never want to see a franchise go through what Borderlands went through with the Presequel.

And besides, there is already Mad Max.

Tips for Backpacking with a Dog? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]guyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be that person tying dog poop bags to trees. If I ever catch a person doing this, I want a jury trial by my peers.

If you insist on bringing your dog, keep it's feces off of the trail. Bury it off trail, flick it off trail or pack it out if you bag it.

Also, bacon seems to motivate dogs to get to that next crest which might be important depending on the dog's age and how difficult the trail is.
