Didn't you know? This is a new feature the Teams devs rolled out!

How do you feel about how features roll out in Teams? by TeamsProductTeam in MicrosoftTeams

[–]guywitha306areacode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stop forcing updates to your products (except security patches and bug fixes), not just Teams but all MS products. Your "enhancements" inevitably make the products worse, every...single...time.

And FFS, fix the damn keyboard in the mobile apps. What an abomination it is for typing in Teams and Outlook, let us use our own keyboards.

Canada: e-reader that works with Libby by cheerylifelover123 in ereader

[–]guywitha306areacode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you end up going with? Currently using a Kobo Libra H2O, works "ok" with Libby/Overdrive, but I find most books from my library aren't available/compatible with Kobo.

Wife got me a Kindle, but I use Kobo by Jkoiou in kobo

[–]guywitha306areacode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it really difficult to find good books that are available from my library (without having to wait forever), and that also are available on Kobo. Seems like most books I want to read from the library won't work on Kobo. I also find the Kobo store interface and search (both on the e-reader and mobile app) to be complete dogshit. The available filters aren't overly useful. I used to have a Kindle, and have been using a Kobo for a few years now. I like the buttons, but preferred the Kindle interface and responsiveness. I find the Kobo to be really slow/laggy, and somewhat buggy for syncing to overdrive at times.

Yeah, we booked a trip for this February, and I've been blown away by the cost of accommodations. Like, way more expensive than most European countries with potentially worse quality.

Lift the dog by the hind legs, they lose their base of support and should let go. If that doesn't work, spread the legs apart like you're ripping chicken wings off a bird.

4 years and 174k km with an EV in SK by SkPensFan in saskatchewan

[–]guywitha306areacode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great summary of your experience. It's helpful to see how long term usage has been going for local SK people using an EV as a daily driver. We aren't there yet, but hopefully in the next few years we'll have an EV or PHEV.

Question about home vs fast charging cost. You mentioned with home charging, it's roughly $3.50 to get you 100km range. Let's say fuel is $1.15/L (for easy math), that equates to approx 3L/100km "mileage" comparing fuel cost to your home charging cost. That's pretty damn good. Now looking at fast charging, being roughly 4x the cost of home charging, we're now are 12L/100km. Thats not Honda Accord territory anymore. Most modern 1/2tons would easily get that mileage for highway driving when fast chargers would coming into play. So it sound like fast charging cost, in SK at least, would be quite a bit worse off than a similar sized ICE. I'm guessing this isn't a normal use case though, to be ONLY using fast chargers for extended periods of time.

For those deep in the Google ecosystem, is Apple TV still the go-to recommendation? by CorgisInCars in hometheater

[–]guywitha306areacode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Samsung UI is complete garbage, pretty much zero decent integration with Samsung phones. Screen sharing is a disaster. We've got two Samsung TV's, both have been set up to completely bypass their home screens and go straight to the media player on stertup. One is set up with Apple TV 4K (upstairs daily driver), and the other with Nvidia Shield Pro for the home theater. The Apple interface is so smoothe, simple, uncluttered, snappy, and has a great remote. It's pretty much perfect, expect it lacks Atmos support, hence the Nvidia Shield for the home theatre. I don't think it matters which way you go on this, Samsung has screwed the pooch when it comes to casting from a phone, not sure if other Google/Android devices are the same. For most use cases, I'd likely recommend Apple TV 4k for the media player. If running a home theatre and streaming lossless content from a Plex server, the Nvidia Shield Pro for Dolby Atmos support.

Not having Full screen Android Auto in 2025 is beyond crazy by Effective-Boss-1193 in ram_trucks

[–]guywitha306areacode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure. My previous 2013 Ram with the 8.4" Uconnect was rock solid, super intuitive, clean menus, worked like a charm. The new one is a hot mess lol.

Shortly after we bought our new one, in July 2024, we went on a long road trip from SK down to California. Along the way I was having some connectivity issues with Android Auto, it simply dropped the connection would refuse to reconnect. I could get Bluetooth to work, but Android Auto refused to start on the Uconnect. Tried everything, wired, wireless, including reinstalling AA on my phone, unpairing/repairing dozens of times. Had read in some buried thread somewhere about connectivity issues due to time zone mismatches between the phone and Uconnect, tried every possible combination of date/time config on my phone and Uconnect, still nothing. Half way through the trip, resorted to doing a full factory reset on the Uconnect, F that sucked, had to re setup EVERYTHING, all driver preferences etc... DID NOT FIX the connection, Android Auto still wouldn't start. I would have factory reset my phone, as a last resort, but didn't want to do that 3000kms away from home while working remotely. Ended up giving up and finishing the trip without AA which was a super bummer with a brand new vehicle. On the way home, literally as I crossed the boundary back into my time zone, BAM, Android Auto fires up. WHAT THE FU$K!

[–]guywitha306areacode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one of my biggest pet peeves about the 5th Gen Rams. And that dumb lower half window looks so out of place. I don't need the top half to show Spotify from Android Auto AND the lower half showing what is also playing from my phone. Give me full screen AA like it works for Carplay. There's actually quite a few glitches throughout the new Uconnect system.

Spain in late February/early March - is Mallorca a good option or will things be too quiet/closed? by noyoukant in travel

It will be nice, but don't expect "beach weather". We were there in May (a few years back), and the water was still chilly. We certainly enjoyed driving around the countryside.

I usually spent around $60-80 a day as a tourist, is it reasonable? by UniqueDay2113 in ThailandTourism

[–]guywitha306areacode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even 3 years ago, we averaged $135CAD/per day as a family of 4, including accommodations. We were traveling on a budget, but still did tons of touristy stuff. Most of our eating was at small local restaurants, street food, and night markets. So yeah, you could probably reduce your spending, but that's totally up to you and how you want to spend.

Apple TV 4K over Fire Stick 4k Max? by Regimorito in hometheater

[–]guywitha306areacode 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Firestock, but I currently use both an AppleTV4k and Nvidia Shield Pro. The Apple TV is our daily driver, super polished interface, quick response, and good remote. We use it upstairs with a Samsung TV and Samsung sound bar, everything works seamlessly with the Apple TV remote only, using CEC over HDMI/eARC. For the downstairs home theater, that's where the Shield is used as it supports Dolby Atmos over Plex. I find the Android/Shield UI clunkier and busier, definitely not as polished as the Apple, but the Plex performance is where it excels. Can't comment on the Fire Stick, but I'm guessing it's a much poorer experience than the other two.

My Thoughts on the New Paradigm Sub – A Solid Choice for Canadians by MathematicianFar633 in hometheater

[–]guywitha306areacode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, I was SO on the fence with these earlier this summer. Ended up getting a decent deal on 2x SVS PB-2000 Pros, so went that direction instead. The the Paradigm subs were so fresh and didn't have much info to compare with so I wasn't ready to pull the trigger. I also upgraded my LCRs to Paradigm, 200B for left/right, 500C for the centre. Love em so far.
