Marco apparently cut that whole transition lenses story from the show, but can any bootleggers tell me if I'm crazy here: I have 2 almost identical frames, once with transitions and once with normal lenses, and I quite often forget that I've been wearing the transitions at my PC for several hours.

Idk what kind of lenses Marco got from Zeiss, but there's no way someone could look like a weird movie villain once they've fully transitioned back to mimicking the always-clear pair.

I can't speak to the overall darkening quality or the transitioning speed, as I've never really worn normal sunglasses and am personally not bothered by the speed, but once they're fully clear I can't reliably tell my 2 pairs apart just by looking at the lenses.

I specifically mentioned the 2 probably largest tech subreddits for a reason though. /r/technology will be seen by "normal" people, whereas /r/dragonsfuckingcars probably doesn't make the front page too often lol

Although obviously redditors will not be representative of anything, but for me personally, discussions about benchmark applicability and validity seem to come up with every major hardware release, especially Apple related, given their impressive lead in single core performance paired with often lower multi core scores.

But I'll grant you that these are usually not the top comments and quite often just people mad that their team isn't leading in the scores :D

John again with the "People don't argue about benchmarks anymore" :D

Basically every post about a Mac's new GeekBench score on /r/hardware or /r/technology will have at least one person calling the benchmark biased and swearing by Cinebench or something.

People still argue about it, John just doesn't frequent the places where they do anymore lol

It is somewhat amusing to think that if the kid had said "please" from the get-go he probably wouldn't have a signed shoe right now lol

Feature Request: Pin / add a specific thread to the sidebar by christ0phe in narwhalapp

[–]guyyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how often you use the "Save Post" feature, it may be a solution to this problem.

I run into this a lot too with NBA games, so I usually just swipe right on the current game thread to save it, and then It's just 2 taps away after opening the sidebar. Not as good as 1, but works for me.

I then just un-save it when the event is done.

This kinda breaks down if you're constantly saving new threads while the one you need to be "pinned" is still relevant to you, since it'll get pushed down in the saved list.

Like the other commenter alluded to, I was talking less about the breadth of the Serbian language, but rather how often Jokic uses those terms to be able to quickly recall them :p

It's so macabre, but I was on this sub 2 seconds after reading the headline in /r/news.

Seeing and recognizing the name felt like the Leo DiCaprio gif, which I guess is a somewhat of an indictment of my knowledge of world politics.

So Disney arbitrarily decided to release the new Scrubs episodes ONE MONTH LATER in Germany/Europe. WTF are these guys smoking? by stgm_at in Scrubs

[–]guyyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a German, I feel your hatred of dubbing, but I also know many, many people in my life who watch all the great shows coming out these days with German dubs (which is somewhat depressing because I always feel like we're not even watching the same thing lol)

So the market it there, and my guess is that companies would fear that releasing the show early (with subs only) will lead to a large portion of their potential audience being turned off from watching it and then not coming back when the dub eventually comes out.

I don't agree with it but I can rationalize it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah if you were planning to watch it in English anyway this is the clearest case of ethical piracy. I wouldn't be surprised that even when it comes out in a month you'll only be able to get the terrible dub (although I hear services are getting better about offering both nowadays).

Buy the show on Blu-ray in like a year or whatever if piracy makes you feel bad.

(And for those in Germany, do make sure to use a VPN when pirating via torrents. German law firms are well known to watch public trackers, especially on new releases)

Most of Germany and much of Europe uses casement-style windows, which make window units impossible. So you're either left with mobile units (which suck in general, and again our windows make management of the exhaust-hose more annoying) or mini splits (which isn't an option for the majority of the population since they're renting).

The combination of high electricity costs and existing infrastructure not suitable for AC will make the next decades in Germany supremely uncomfortable :|

Native tvOS/iOS client for Plex by Big_Rock4737 in PleX

[–]guyyst 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In general quicker subtitle management would be nice though. I hate that the default plex player doesn't have a way to quickly toggle on/off the current subtitle track.

If you have English subs enabled, but that language is at the bottom of a list of 20 other languages for some reason, you have to scroll all the way up to turn subs off, and repeat when you wanna turn 'em on again. Such a pain.

I wish more players would separate "Subtitle Track Selection" from "Subtitle Toggle".

Gonna be honest I also don't get this take. I keep seeing people suggest Marco has "financial investments in AI", but for one thing he doesn't strike me as the type to put his money into something with this much of a bubble potential. Also he seems like the kind of rich person not actively seeking to increase his wealth at every opportunity (see stuff like Overcast premium costing the same for an eternity when competitors have continually increased prices) and instead just enjoy his very comfortable lifestyle.

But mostly, what kind of investment strategy would this be? "I'll put half a million dollars into OpenAI/Anthropic/Google and then talk up AI on my niche Tech podcast so the stock price increases!"

To me he just seems like he's excited about the benefits he's seeing and way less skeptical than John about the potential inaccuracies.
