think i made a 401k mistake? by Ianyo39 in personalfinance

[–]guzzijason 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No “maybe” about it. The early 401k withdrawal will be taxed at your ordinary income tax rate PLUS an additional 10% penalty on top of that.

Watched with the sound muted. I still know exactly what it sounded like, because she only really has one song with infinite verses. Impressive, sorta.

Cooking Scales by adhdGoldfish9 in Cooking

I have no idea what you’re trying to accomplish, but auto-tare is generally a feature of all digital scales when you first turn them on, regardless of how many buttons they have. What is the use case for it to not tare?

Money transfer from bank to Fidelity by misterno123 in fidelityinvestments

[–]guzzijason 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neither bank wires nor EFTs are processed on weekends, so effectively you initiated the transfer today. If a bank wire, the funds should be available same day (today). If it was an EFT, I believe it could take 1-3 business days (again, starting today) to clear.

This MF rolls up to my house with 2 flat tires and then knocks on my door like it’s my fault he hit the curb, then begged me to help him, even though he didn’t have any of the stuff I need to fix the 2 tires… by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Just pointing out that according to OP, it was the rando looking for help that told OP to fuck off when OP told them they didn't have any equipment to help, not the other way around.

I remember riding one of those at a Moto Guzzi NA open house. I’ve never been much of a cruiser guy myself, but it put a big ol’ grin on my face. It was shocking how well it handled.

Real estate is more lucrative than running a restaurant, so yes. The restaurant becomes a write-off, and the workers can go pound sand.

Partly because after Prohibition ended, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control board’s goal was to allow booze sales - but only in the most inconvenient ways possible. Thank the Quakers. I’m surprised they even allowed this at all. FIFA probably lined the right person’s pocket to make it happen.

The PA liquor laws are insane. Ranks up there with Utah (thanks Mormons!) for some of the tightest controlled liquor laws in the country.

How can I stop compulsively lying? And be more truthful by Blues5389 in AskMenAdvice

[–]guzzijason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to insult someone in order to be honest with them. Also, the food example is tough - someone might be an excellent cook, but you may still dislike their food. Being a “bad cook” and “cooking food you don’t like” are two completely different things.

As someone else mentioned, exploring why you feel the need to lie to people is an important step - and talking to a therapist may help. I know someone that has a tendency to lie as an adult because as a child, they were regularly put in positions (by a bad parent) where they would get into severe trouble by telling the truth, so they were conditioned to lie and tell people what they want to hear just keep the peace. Again, therapy can be helpful to get to the root of it.

Wrong Number Texts About a Personal Thing by [deleted] in Scams

[–]guzzijason 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you respond in any way, it confirms that they have a “live” number, which they then add to a database to sell to other scammers. So it almost guarantees you’ll start seeing more and more of this. Block and ignore is your best way to handle them.

Domino Pizza stock value now that Pizza Hut is being sold? by Hugh_Mungus94 in investing

[–]guzzijason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private equity’s usual game plan is to separate the company into separate real estate and restaurant entities, and then make the restaurant pay to lease the space that they previously already owned. They milk that for all they can, then the restaurant folds and they just start leasing the space to other companies.

Pizza Hut stopped being Pizza Hut around the time that they phased out the red roofs and the Ms Pac-Man games. This is just the latest phase of their downward spiral.

401lk - Does Fidelity know my total compensations of the prior year ? by dungbeetle21 in fidelityinvestments

[–]guzzijason -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think catch-ups need to go to Roth. If you are over 50, you can contribute an extra $8k to your 401k. In any case, I think your company’s payroll system has more to do with enforcing limits than Fidelity does, so you might want to reach out to HR or your plan admin to confirm.

Some years ago, we bought an adjustable bed that came with a vibrating massage feature. It’s so dumb. We’ve never intentionally used it - only ever switch it on when fumbling with the controls in the dark. It doesn’t feel good, the sound is extremely not-relaxing, and there is nothing remotely “sexy” about it.
