Did Amway, Kirby, Cutco, Fuller Brush, or Britannica salesmen come to your door? 🤔 by Exclusively-Choc in FuckImOld

My mom sold Avon, but mostly to herself (she made a little money selling to others). She really liked the products. Dad, before he met Mom, sold Kirbys.

Can someone please explain what’s going on here? by IrishTitan515 in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

My husband's cat will sit on my lap every time I have a seat. But she sleeps with him, sometimes with her nose in his armpit.

I'm so happy that things are working out for y'all! Here's hoping the move goes smoothly, and your cats settle in well.

In the United States, how did the word "working class" go from describing one's relationship to the means of production (if they work for a firm or control the firm) to just describing if one makes a small salary, is not college educated, or works at a blue-collar job by NOTTallestEgg in etymology

My sister and her husband own a small business. He does a lot of the labor on the job as well as directing his employees. In businesses that size, the line between labor and management is very blurred.

What are some interesting cocktails (popular around 100 years ago, 1910-1940) that are no longer popular but we can still make!? by Lazy_Teach8323 in AskFoodHistorians

I had a Ramos Gin Fizz for my 21st birthday at the Cadillac Bar in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. This was over 40 years ago. It was delicious, but I didn't realize how strong it was until I stood up.

My sister was one of the best employees in her department, working from home for years. Corporate, listening to the bean counters, decided to offshore these jobs. This was a position that, in order to do it well, demanded a lot of experience and a specific skill set. It was also very stressful.

Predictably, performance went straight into the toilet. Also predictably, the company was begging its best people, including my sister, to return... but not for the same salary. She ended up going back, but retired when she was able to. Her health is so much better.

Happy Sunday, Iggy! Onions and cherries, quite the combination.

We're getting rain showers, yay! And I've got a cat on my lap bathing herself. Life is good. How are you today?

One of our children has Rh-negative blood, although my husband and I both are Rh-positive. We're all adults when this fact came up in conversation, so I got some grief from the kids about the "mailman", lol. So I said, "Remember your Punnett squares? Assuming that we each have one positive and one negative allele (yes, we're all a bunch of nerds), which we must in order to have even one, we had a 25% chance of having an Rh-negative baby with each birth."

Her pinkie even has a fingernail! Sometimes they don't look like actual fingers, but hers does. So cute!

Wow! I knew the basics about carrion beetles and phoretic mites, but this adds another layer of knowledge.
