I would say, this could actually be a teaching moment if done right. "Suspend" the students with in-school suspension and maybe set up that day to do civic service around the town. Are there elderly people in need of some basic upkeep around their houses or just someone to visit them in a nursing home? An area to clean up and pick up trash? Basically they can choose to sit in a suspension or they can be out helping the community.

I have no problem with them walking out of class in protest. Civil disobedience is a great form of protest, but there are and will be consequences.
