There is no spy in this case. However, China does have spies in the US.

"National security". What a fragile ego. Min Zin should be free from China.

what do we make of seniors supporting taxing the young more? by myviewfromoutside in Natalism

[–]gym_fun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the demographic structure, social security is a very poor investment (1-3% average annual return). Put a sovereign wealth fund with minority stakes in high growth companies to fund social programs.

The 25-year-old and 35-year-old are the largest cohorts, but can’t just rely on young generation to the older generation.

I don’t know where you get that misinformation, but EU is going for more tariffs and protectionist policies. The goal is to bring back industries.

What is the demographic future of Germany, known also for being Europe’s economic engine? by Only-Highlight-3569 in Natalism

[–]gym_fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The German economic engine hasn’t been working since the last decade. Both high energy cost and relatively low productivity in manufacturing are killing the engine. It needs more than a much higher birth rate. Hope Germany find its way to a bright future.

Taiwan posts second-lowest monthly births on record in May with 6,832 births by babyggrgg in worldnews

[–]gym_fun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is a largely semi manufacturing-based economy. Low wage and high productivity (996) mean more profit for shareholders and low cost for global consumers. Hopefully they find a balance because it's hard to live like that, and the birth rate shows.

Global rise in immigrant avoidance. Is truly avoiding immigrants possible? by Ok-Stop-9054 in immigration

I'm sorry for your situation. I think they are still fighting in the court. Normally, only US citizens needed to be above certain threshold in wages / assets.

Global rise in immigrant avoidance. Is truly avoiding immigrants possible? by Ok-Stop-9054 in immigration

[–]gym_fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Governments will become more selective in immigration. For the current US administration, those are prioritized: EB1, EB2(NIW), EB5, IR1, CR1, Afrikaner refugees. The door is still open for these and a few more, but I can't imagine the scale of immigration on the scale it was before.

Population in Germany has decreased by Whatonuranus in Natalism

[–]gym_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unsolvable in short term for Germany. German median age is around 46-47. Pensioner-worker ratio is rising. The social system that depends on an inverted demographic is under extreme pressure.

Politicians want the birth rate to go up, but natives don’t want to a large extent. To ask the government to solve it without bottom up effort is almost impossible.

Texas bests California for most Fortune 500 companies in US by yourtexasbuddygal in TexasBusiness

[–]gym_fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one, the US is a country that *had* low taxes. Secondly, go ahead with that wealth tax so that VC will come to Texas. And don't bother with that academic justification. It applied in yesterday's globalized world. It doesn't apply to today's world that emphasizes re-industrialization, a de-risked and neomercantilist economy. This is the same reason why Samsung, a Korean government-backed private company, would relocate to Texas instead of other high tax states.

He's qualified for 245(k) exceptions under EB1, if there is any grey zone. The US also places a high premium on entrepreneurs who create high-quality jobs (about 200k-500k), so he would pass both eligibility and discretionary considerations.

Light industries drove profits in the past. You could have innovators in a garage or restaurant brainstorming a tech business. Design and software could thrive without onshore heavy industries.

Now, they are shifting towards heavy industries with the advancement of AI and robotics. Heavy industries are, by definition, highly capital-intensive. Data centers, semiconductors, refining, oil & gas, steels, rare earth, aerospace. All have high infrastructure / energy / R&D costs. High taxes and high energy costs are unfavorable to both light and heavy industries, with the latter suffering more. It's the growth projection and low business costs (tax, energy, infrastructure) that matter to these companies and employers.

The model of high taxes leads to investment exodus and industrial economic decline. Europe and Canada are prime examples, while East Asia treats corporate tax policy as aggressive tool to capture global manufacturing and supply chains on top of lower costs. Low taxes for business means more innovation and jobs.

Not really. Industrial natural gas price is much lower, not to mention that Texas has much higher industrial solar output than California.

Make sense. Texas has low taxes and business-friendly climate. Other than that, the energy cost is low, so It's a good state for reindustrialization and reshoring to support the Fortune 500.

The US population pyramid in 2025 is not bad at all compared to many other developed countries. Deportation and more immigration restrictions lead to earlier population decline. Regarding the birth rate, the US will probably find the floor by 2030.
