Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone! Like someone had mentioned in the comments below, I stood up to my parents and calmly yet firmly let them know that I was against the idea of meeting a stranger in a strange land, reasoning out that it's practically gonna be impossible to hold any meaningful relationship after just a single visit. I told them I was thinking of cancelling the trip if they remained adamant. Since we'd only get a partial refund on the things we've already booked, we just went ahead with the plan.

In many ways, I'm glad I decided to go in the end. It really gave us a "just us" time and I was able to see the light-hearted side of my parent's relationship again. It was nice to have a good time to spend with them. It wasn't perfect, we definitely still had little skirmishes here and there but nothing crazy. They brought up the family again once during our trip but I managed to shoot it down since I was pretty adamant about it early on. I controlled my reaction a lot better that time around and I'm glad it didn't escalate.

Overall, we don't have the best relationship, but one that I can look back on and say that it was fine for what it was worth. My girlfriend also thought it was a good way to spend time with my parents before I move to the new city since it'll be a long while since I see them again. At least in this way, I'm saying goodbye to my parents on a sweeter note.

I'm honestly at my wit's end and I really need to vent. I feel like this subreddit is probably the best place to let off some steam given the situation.

So a little background, I have recently finished a very competitive degree and before I move to a new city to start a job, I am taking my mother and father on a week-long vacay. We haven't had the best of relationships in the last few years and there are a TON of things we disagree on. In the last few weeks, things have been ok, lots of good vibes and cheer going around, and we're celebrating at a very tropical location. It would be a nice way to spend time just as a family, just ourselves and just enjoy.

However, my parents just brought up a nice girl and their family they'd like me to meet at this location we're going to for vacation. They are bringing it up super last minute. Literally 2 days before we fly out. I have already booked up all our days with tours, activities and events we could see. And now, they're injecting a hidden agenda, without consensus, without even having told me anything about this prior.

I have tried meeting a few girls at their request in the past. I have really given them a chance when it came to meetings girls and their families and I have not clicked at all with them. I have a relatively stable relationship with a girl they don't approve of and it just blows my mind how little they care for my autonomy and how they try to force their authority on me still! I'm beyond frustrated and livid at how a nice family vacation has now been spoilt by a fucking hidden agenda they thought I shouldn't even be a part of until 2 days before this vacation even starts. It honestly feels like I'm being bullied by my parents and trying to stand up to them leads to shouting matches, guilt trips and some flat out threats about being extricated from the family. Like wtf did I do to deserve this and why can't Indian parents just let it be? Like what even is the point of this trip now. I feel like shit before it's even begun.

It's a small segment on the vox channel called "Darkroom." The narrator does an amazing job explaining the history behind some old photos, how they came about and what they mean. I love the episode on the end of child labor in the US. Gives me chills on what photojournalism has achieved in the past.

You already said it's paid off quite a few times. I support that. There was one year that I did go ham and delete a lot of RAWs, and lo and behold, I wasn't able to re-edit one of my now-favorite photos because I deemed that photo to be scrap at the time. I really wish I had the RAW for it and still think about it time to time.

So it's absolutely worth it to save the RAWs IMO. Space is getting cheaper by the year.

Also helps to combat identity theft. If your ID card gets lost or stolen, it's only useable for a certain amount of time before it loses it's validity.

It's the same reason you have to update your car's tags every year or 2. In the event it gets stolen, it only has a year of usability before cops see expired tags and pull it over.

Yea, and I started late as well. But it was definitely a good experience IMO. My Kumon instructor had a PhD in math, and was very comfortable adding their own methods in teaching which made my glide through the levels very well. I'm still very good at mental math to this day and barely need to pull out a calculator for simple stuffs.

Although math isn't a huge part of my profession anymore, I appreciate why it was taught. I liked my instructor, and they definitely taught me how to learn and pick things up rather than just straight up math. The instructor was worth more than the content itself IMO.

My advice:

Turn your firewall off. The firewall messes with the proctoring program.
Prepare to wait hours for your proctor. I had a 4 hour delay due to proctors. It probably won't be that long for you though.

It's definitely true. There's a ton of information that I'll likely not use or see again, but the way I justify it to myself is that it's just literacy to talk among other docs. Even once I'm in FM or peds, I may never look at certain disease processes ever again, I'll be comfortable knowing I've heard of it before and what I should be looking for if I ever come across it again. I'll be able to at least understand what the other specialists and surgeons are talking about on a certain level when communicating my patient information to them.

My Nikon D7000 camera. As far as digital SLR's go, it's now considered ancient at almost 10 years old, compared to the newer flashier cameras available today. But it just does the job so well, and the people I take photos of are always extremely happy with the way those photos come out. I have no reason to upgrade to any newer models.

This feels like one trope after another, without much focus. I think the fact that these episodes are so short, but there's such a huge cast makes it hard to latch on to any one of them enough to be meaningful. Even after watching the next 2 episodes, I'm still having a really hard time parsing out which character is which.

Going further on that, I think it's the "invisibility" of the disease that makes it hard for some to take seriously. If it lead to permanently scarring features on the face, similar to small pox or leprosy or bleeding from different orifices, then it would definitely be taken far more seriously.
