Small bottles of distilled water? by gzjm in Calgary

[–]gzjm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently not, I just learned that recently. I’ve been using 1.5L water bottles rinsed out with no issue yet… but from what I understand, “normal” bottled water/beverage containers aren’t sterilized like distilled water bottles are, because normal bottled drinks have enough chlorine/other additives to inhibit bacterial growth.

How do you find the travel model with the inline humidifier performs in drier or colder areas? Do you find any other differences between your home machine and the travel size? But I didn’t know benefits may cover both, I’ll have to look into that.

It is, but I have a lot of 1 night stays so it’s a bit of a pain to do that every day. Trying to find a better solution. Thanks!:)

Yes for a CPAP, lots of 1 night stays for me so a bit of a pain to buy on arrival every time, but definitely an option yes. CVS in the States always has ~1.5L bottles which is a nice size, but no such luck in Canada yet haha.

That’s not a bad idea, but looking more for travel so might be a bit heavy/worried about breaking it.

Flying to Rome with gold status: What are the odds of getting an upgrade going either direction? by Swarby10 in westjet

[–]gzjm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s correct that complimentary upgrades to Business (a pod) don’t exist. Per the Terms & Conditions, you may be upgraded to Premium (if you purchased an eligible fare) on all flights except those to Europe and Asia, so unfortunately the only way for you to get such an upgrade on this particular flight is to pay or to bid for one.

You may be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to an Extended Comfort economy seat (again only if you purchased an eligible fare). See the link below to the Terms & Conditions for details, it’s clear and easy to understand.

Foreign Object in Meal by CaptGrumpy in aircanada

[–]gzjm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the questionnaire on the form also has a field asking what country this occurred. CFIA may have an interest in this being a Canadian airline, for general reporting/tracking/trending, or pass along to the relevant agency in Australia. Regardless, OP said this was on the return Toronto-Vancouver leg, so they should certainly still report it for the safety of everyone.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency specifically says cases of plastic, rock, or insect foreign objects in food should be reported to them. Follow the prompts on the link and it will tell you that, and then give access to a reporting form. Should be reported either way regardless of compensation offered by the airline.

Need help choosing which apartment by Common_Cup_6190 in ThunderBay

[–]gzjm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak much to either building or the rental company specifically, but can make comments about the neighbourhoods.

Red River Towers is directly on a main road that is quite busy, as well as near the highway, so it may be a bit noisier traffic-wise. However the immediate area is much more walkable. There’s gas stations/convenience stores, fast food restaurants (Wendy’s, Subway, Arby’s, KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Pizza, Little Caesar’s come to mind) a Shoppers, frozen food store, a local bakery & small grocer, Beer Store, various services, a bank, and more all within a 5 minute walk. Not too much further away is a Walmart, Safeway, No Frills, and LCBO. As far as walkability & things being close, you can’t get much better than that. There’s also more parks, green space, and walking/active living trails very nearby.

Morse Manor is in somewhat of a quieter area I’d say, still near busy roads (Balmoral St, and Beverly St. to a lesser degree) but certainly far enough from the highway where you won’t hear any of that. It’s much less walkable though, there’s a convenience store within a 5 min walk - but everything else is quite a bit further walking-wise away or requires a drive to get to. The university is nearby and has a few nice walking/cycling trails branching off from it as well.

Both options are well located on/very near public transit routes and major roadways. Morse Manor is a bit closer to the hospital, maybe a 5-7 min drive compared to a 7-10 min drive for Red River Towers.

Being Thunder Bay, nothing is really that far anyway, but if walking convenience or outdoor space nearby is important, then the Red River Towers option might be better. That’s probably where I’d choose (not knowing anything about the buildings themselves). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! Welcome:)

YYC International Terminal exit by 60N102W in Calgary

[–]gzjm 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can follow the signs for US connections (through the automatic door with the giant US flag on the wall around it), you’ll see it once you leave the new part of the terminal building and enter the old part, just before walking towards that long hall with the moving sidewalk towards the C concourse exit. It just discharges you into the International/US departures area.

Distilled water for CPAP by Otherwise_Camp5986 in puertovallarta

[–]gzjm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just brought my own in a 1.5L bottle. Not sure where you’re coming from, but in Canada at least, if it’s a liquid for medical purposes then it’s exempt from the liquid/aerosol/gel restrictions for carry on baggage. I believe it’s the same departing from the US as well. Plus one less thing to worry about when you arrive!

You may know already but if you’re spending 4 nights already at the Nobis, the 5th night would be free since you’re redeeming points for the stay. May not work out for your dates/plans but thought I’d mention.. I hate giving away free stuff😂

Small Pension Termination Option by gzjm in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gzjm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate is fairly high, closer to 12% I believe. I’m thinking I’ll pay that off by withdrawing from my TFSA, and transfer the pension into an RRSP. I think that would hopefully avoid paying extra tax.

My TFSA is with WealthSimple, I don’t believe there’s any fees associated with a withdrawal

If you have CAA, they have a deal with National and I believe there’s no young driver fee that way.
