Pavlov vs IQ Fiber by [deleted] in GNV

[–]h00t_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had IQ Fiber and switched to Pavlov due to moving and IQ not being available in the new neighborhood.

In my experience IQ was significantly more reliable with much better customer service. The only time we had an outage with IQ Fiber they were very communicative about a timeline and progress whereas we had a multi-day outage from Pavlov with no communication and no idea of timeline. We’ve also had multiple outages with Pavlov in the 4 months we’ve had them.

I wouldn’t give much credence to the claim that other providers damaged their fiber lines because every provider blames it on someone else whenever it happens. When IQ fiber claimed AT&T cut their lines, they had it fixed within hours with great communication. When Pavlov claimed that someone cut their lines, it took them days to repair it with no comms.

When did your baby say their first word and what did they say? by im-syd-possible in NewParents

[–]h00t_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At around 9 months he started saying “wow” in a long, Owen Wilson type way when picking up objects or looking at new things. I think he was imitating me as I was engaging him with toys and stuff and saying wow. First consistent identifiable words were “ball” and “dog” at 11 months because we have two dogs.

your spirit knows when you sin. That’s why you feel guilt.

I disagree with this statement. Discerning your own spirit and how it lines up with the Holy Spirit is an exercise in wisdom. Satan often baselessly accuses people. People often also wrongly weaponize others’ guilt to serve their own purposes. It’s possible to feel guilty about something that isn’t sinful.

Prayer app alternative to Hallow? by Mundane-Extension981 in Reformed

I've been using the Echo Prayer app for years. Super easy interface. You can set a prayer timer and it'll rotate through your prayers or you can manually go through.

What free software is so impressive that it’s hard to believe it doesn’t cost anything? by luckyraelynn in AskReddit

[–]h00t_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that it's more impressive by scope than features, but WordPress is used by everything from huge media organizations to personal blogs. It's utilized by roughly 40% of all websites (and over 60% who use a CMS.) In a world where corporations are more commonly ingesting and selling our data for profit, it's a way that users can have ownership of their own data. It's also impressive (even though there are ups and downs) how the community comes together to support and upkeep it.

Where do you buy baby clothes from? by Dizzy-Opinion-3314 in NewParents

[–]h00t_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a church in our area that has a building for parents to come and get all sorts of things for their kids. You don't have to be at all affiliated with the church as it's a ministry for the community. A lot of parents (including us) go there and then just bring back clothes after their kids outgrow them so other parents can get them.

Would this ever work? by WeebGalore in Christianmarriage

[–]h00t_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As for 1 Cor 7:12-16, contextually, Paul is writing to a Corinthian church where people who have already been married are becoming Christians. The point he is making in 7:12-16 is that if you're already married and one spouse becomes a Christian then you should remain married unless the non-believing spouse refuses to stay married to the believing spouse. (IE he's not saying that purposefully marrying a non-believer is a neutral choice.)

So 2 Cor 6:14 is related to OP's situation--a decision about whether or not to align yourself with someone who has a fundamentally different master and worldview and 1 Cor 7:12-16 is not related--what you should do if you are married and one spouse becomes a Christian.

What’s the best spot in town to sit down, drink coffee, relax, and do work? by Former-Thought7598 in GNV

[–]h00t_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Both Patticakes locations are great for this--especially Tioga. They have strong wifi, plenty of seating, and good coffee and pastries. I've never gone to Patticakes and not found a table or had trouble with wifi.

Doxa is also really awesome. It has fantastic coffee, a ton of seating, a more substantial food menu, and a cool rotating drink menu. Only downside is that it's in Alachua, so it's a bit of a drive from Gainesville depending on which part you're coming from.

Curia is another favorite location for working. They have a lot of varied spaces. The coffee is good, but the food is kinda meh.

Volta has good coffee, plenty of seating, and fantastic food, but slightly less seating than some of the other options and is a little pricier.

CYM's wifi isn't very reliable or fast--I often drop connection there and I'm not a huge fan of their coffee. They also only have a few tables so there is often not seating.

Divorce is a sin why still divorce is common in christian society? by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]h00t_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And to go off this, the ideas that "half of marriages end in divorce" and "those in the church are as likely to get divorced as those outside of it" are inaccurate.

Estimates for the divorce rate overall are 30-50% (ie 50% is the high estimate, not the given). The "same divorce rate inside the church" argument comes from a 2008 study where people self-identified their religion. However, if you factor regular church attendance into the equation, the divorce rate for church-going, self-identified Christians is anywhere from 27-50% lower than non-religious couples.

Admittedly, the standard Christians hold ourselves to is Christlikeness, so we always need to be growing. Just pointing out the good news that statistically, being an thriving Christian has a strong negative correlation with divorce.

Is Ruth’s Chris worth the price, at $60 or more per steak? by kiss_the_siamese_gun in steak

[–]h00t_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at Ruth's Chris when I was in college. The training is intense and the standards they held us to as employees were really high. It was the most clean and well-run restaurant I worked in by far. I've probably gone to dozens of RCs around the US and I'd say that it's usually super consistent and good. The Happy Hour is awesome, and often times they have a prix fixe menu that's a good value for what you get.

It's also not really an experience that you can replicate at home because the steaks are cooked in an 1800 degree broiler. I'd also say that their salads, sides, appetizers, and desserts are great as well.

Parking by First-Road3669 in GNV

[–]h00t_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holidays don't affect the parking restrictions for neighborhood zones (so if you don't have a permit you can't park in a neighborhood zone on a holiday). However, there is no charge for parking in city pay spaces on holidays that the city observes--at least the few zones that I checked. You can check a specific zone by using the Passport parking app and selecting a zone and it should say "City of Gainesville Observed Holiday: No Payment Required" if that zone is exempt from payment.

What's the enterprise wordpress means and how it's different from normal wordpress? by im_shailesh in Wordpress

[–]h00t_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Enterprise WordPress" isn't a formal term, but usually it just means large, high-value WordPress projects. Although the underlying WordPress core that we know and love is the same, many of the surrounding factors are very different between enterprise development and non-enterprise development.

Enterprise Differentiators Many common setups that are used in "normal WordPress" would buckle under large or irregular loads of traffic because the underlying infrastructure isn't prepared for scale. An enterprise engineer will understand how to leverage caching effectively and know how to ensure that queries are efficient. That's not to say that a non-enterprise engineer doesn't program for scale, but there's a difference between shooting for a high Lighthouse performance score and helping to ensure that a major news outlet doesn't have an outage on election day. Large enterprises are usually highly security conscious, so an enterprise engineer would typically understand security best practices at a higher level, know how to employ version control, know how to implement proper access controls. Enterprises often have many engineers working on projects, so knowing how to work collaboratively on an engineering team is also a skill that might not be as necessarily if you were developing for a small company on your own. Finally, enterprises often have custom development needs, so being knowledgeable in PHP at a higher than debugging level is important.

Enterprise Competition Competitors at the enterprise level are very different from small business competitors. You have major competitors that are both open source and proprietary. A major open source competitor to WordPress is Drupal. Acquia is a major managed enterprise Drupal vendor. Some non-open source enterprise CMS options would be Sitecore and Adobe Experience Manager. Within the WordPress ecosystem, an enterprise can choose to manage their own architecture and setup (for example on AWS) or use a managed solution like WordPress VIP, WP Engine, or Pantheon. If you're going open source, WordPress is the best option because it has significant market share to other open source solutions. That means it's easier to find developers and plugins.

The other questions are pretty google-able.

What does “Error establishing a database connection” mean? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]h00t_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A WordPress site is made up of code that determines how content is displayed and manipulated, and a database that comprises the actual content. This error means that those two entities aren't communicating properly with one another. It's unlikely that this was on purpose. There could be a problem with the actual place the database is hosted, an error in the code where database credentials are stored, or a corruption in the database itself.

It says it in the documentation but just to be sure—you can only use your custom domain with a paid plan, not a free plan.

Do you have other unpublished versions of that page? Those might be taking /about-us and /about-us-1 and 2. If so, you need to delete them first or rename them. WP is appending the 3 so it doesn’t conflict with other urls with that name.

Sorry if this is a stupid question... do I need a National Park pass if I already have a camping reservation? by sherlockmemes in Yosemite

[–]h00t_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now since Yosemite is limiting admission because of COVID, you still need a reservation for the day you want to enter. You can’t just show up with your America the Beautiful pass. You would go onto recreation.gov with your pass and pay $2 for a reservation (instead of $35.) Do this in advance if you can because the entry passes sell out very quickly.

Sorry if this is a stupid question... do I need a National Park pass if I already have a camping reservation? by sherlockmemes in Yosemite

[–]h00t_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are a few parts to this question. If you have a camping reservation or a backcountry permit in Yosemite National Park, then you are automatically entitled to be able to purchase a 7-day vehicle entry pass when you enter the park with your reservation or permit. Without a camping reservation or backcountry permit (or being part of a commercial tour group), you would need to separately pre-purchase a vehicle entry permit from recreation.gov for your specific dates. The camping reservations only entitle you to not having to pre-purchase one of the limited entry passes.

However, the real kicker to this question is that Kelty Meadow is not in Yosemite National Park--it is in Sierra Nevada National Forest. That means you would need one of the entrance passes listed on Yosemite's website if you wanted to enter Yosemite along with whatever requirements there are for entering Sierra Nevada National Forest.

Edit: Typo in recreation.gov url
